Doris C. Puck
Doris C. Puck, of Tinton Falls and with family in Belmar, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 15 at her home in Seabrook Village. She was 87.

Doris was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to Toms River in 1984 and to Tinton Falls in 2003. She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School and worked as a secretary for First National City Bank for 10 years. Doris was a very active member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church. She was a Rainbow Girl and member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years while living in Brooklyn.

Doris was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary of Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as well as a Girl Scout leader for the Girl Scouts. Doris enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

Doris is predeceased by her husband of 32 years Herbert Puck in 1984 and a sister Evelyn Duran in 1993. She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, William and Laura Puck, of Fair Haven; a daughter Ruth Phillips, of Belmar; and four grandchildren Ryan, Kelly, Erin and Kristin.

Arrangements were taken care of by the Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan. Interment will take place at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River. A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, Oct. 22 at Town Square at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seabrook Village Benevolent Care Fund.

Robert McArthur Sr.
Robert F. McArthur Sr., 66, of Point Pleasant, with family in Brielle, died on Friday, Sept. 30 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

He was born in Neptune and lived most of his life in Wall before moving to Point Pleasant eight years ago.

He was employed as a truck driver for over 30 years, last employed by Langer Transport in Jersey City. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne M. [Bonsper] McArthur; his sons, Robert F. Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Brielle, and Michael T. and his wife Lara, of Wall; two step-sons, Christian M. and Justin S. Zuzuro, both of Point Pleasant; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Zachary, Joshua, Jacob, Haley, Benjamin and Ryan.

Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was private. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his honor to Point Boro First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 3, Point Pleasant, 08742.

Isolde ‘Sonia’ R. McNamara
Isolde "Sonia" R. McNamara, 75, of Bluffton, S.C., formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, at her home.

Born in Lodz, Poland, she came to the United States in 1966 and lived in Spring Lake Heights for over 30 years, before moving to Bluffton, S.C. in 1997.

Mrs. McNamara worked in retail sales for Belmar Fashion Corner and also at the Nanette Shop in Point Pleasant. She was a member of the Bluffton Congregation Jehovah Witnesses.

Mrs. McNamara is survived by her husband Paul D. and is also survived by three sons, Ronald Mattmer and his wife Donna, of Canada, Kevin McNamara, of Coral Springs, Fla. and Brian McNamara and his wife, Kelly, of Brielle; daughter, Mia Kramer and her husband Jim, of Minnetonka, Minn.; sister, Anita Squires and her husband, Donald, of Dunn, N.C. and 15 grandchildren.

Private graveside services were held at St. Catharine cemetery in Wall.

The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, 07834.

Virginia Tischio
Virginia Tischio, 77, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Manasquan on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Born in Newark, she lived in Cranford, before moving to Manasquan 20 years ago.

Mrs. Tischio was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 2003 and is survived by her daughters, Susan Sylvester and her husband Jeff, of Garwood, and Lesley Tischio, of Brielle; three grandchildren, Stephanie and Joseph Sylvester and Allaire Tischio; her loving brother-in-laws, Gerard Tischio and his wife Janet, Philip Tischio, Michael Tischio and Robert Tischio and his wife Patsey and many close family and friends.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was in Fairview cemetery in Westfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, 07834.

Joseph M. Murphy, Sr.
Joseph M. Murphy Sr., retired Newark detective of Florham Park, with family in Spring Lake, died at his home on Thursday, Sept. 29. He was 90.

Born to Irish immigrants, Michael and Eleanor Murphy, he was raised in Newark where he attended St. Antoninus grade school and Essex County Vo-Tech. He had lived in Florham Park since 1974. He enjoyed spending his winters in Juno Beach, Fla. and his summers in Manasquan, always surrounded by his beloved family.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife of over 52 years, Mary E. [McMahon] in 2004, and his sister, Eleanor Hartwyk.

He is survived by his children, Joseph M. Murphy Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Bel Air, Md.; Mary Anne Murphy, of Basking Ridge; Kevin F. Murphy and his wife, Joanne, of Mendham; Michael J. Murphy, of Florham Park and Nancy and her husband, Joseph Walsh, of Branchburg. He was the grandfather of Mary Katherine and Brian Murphy; Tara, Conor and Michaela Murphy; Rose and Michael J. Murphy Jr.; Shannon M. Walsh. He is also survived by his brother, Francis J. Murphy, of Spring Lake.

Joseph was a detective in the Newark Police Department, 1st Precinct. He retired after 30 years of service. Prior to joining the police department, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Port Lyautey, Morocco. Long-time member of Holy Family Church in Florham Park, Joseph was a member of the Florham Park Seniors, the Emerald Society of Essex County and had been a pitcher for the 1st Precinct baseball team earlier with the police department. Joseph, a devout family man, was a wonderful father who along with his bride did much for all of their children and grandchildren, more than they can express. He will be missed and his memory will live on.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Florham Park Memorial First Aid Squad, 60 Felch Road, Florham Park, 07932.

John F. DeVincens
John F. DeVincens, 47, of Brielle, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, with his loving family at his side.

John was born in Morristown and had resided in the Shore area for most of his life before settling permanently in Brielle six years ago. He was a graduate of Toms River East High School in 1982. He then went on to receive a bachelor of arts in history from East Carolina University.

John started his career in construction working initially for Circle-A Construction, then with the Hovnanian Companies and Toll Brothers before establishing DC Custom Home of Brielle.

Besides John’s vast knowledge of residential construction, he loved to cook, was an avid reader and had a great affinity for all sports and history. John had a great love for his stepchildren and his many nieces and nephews.

John’s family stated “he was a big, generous, loving caring man with a great sense of humor who would do anything for anyone at any time. This is our memory and his legacy. He will always be a part or our lives.” In keeping with this generous spirit, John was able to help other families through his decision to donate his organs upon his untimely passing.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Maryrose Lorenzo DeVincens, her two children, Katelyn and Christopher O’Neill, who considered John as their Dad; his parents John J. and Kathleen DeVincens; his siblings; Jill M., and Christine A. DeVincens, Douglas M. and Carrie DeVincens; his in-laws Charles F. and Mary Jane Lorenzo Sr.; his brothers in law Charles F. and Patricia Lorenzo Jr., John “Jay” and Deborah Lorenzo, and Kenneth V. and Susan Lorenzo. Also surviving are his many nieces and nephews; Bennett, Jack, Wil, Stephen, Janie, Jacqueline, Jason, Alec, Sam, and Jake, and his two aunts Arlene Christian and Linda DeVincens Baker. He is also survived by a legion of good and loyal friends who have been together for many years and whom he loved.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements.

Committal will be private at the convenience of John’s family. In lieu of flowers, the family specifically requests donations be made to establish a college trust fund for Katelyn and Christopher. Kindly forward donations to the Katelyn and Christopher O’Neill Scholarship Fund, c/o Chuck Lorenzo, 934 Birch Dr., Brielle, 08730.

James R. Gilligan
James R. Gilligan, 75 of Spring Lake Heights, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29 at his home.

Born and raised in the Parkchester section of the Bronx, James was a graduate of Mount St. Michael Academy. He then went on to graduate from Villanova University, Penn. Upon his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army for a brief period of time.

James enjoyed a career as a television advertising sales executive. He retired in 1990, from Peters, Griffin & Woodward, New York City.

James was a resident of New York for many years before moving to the Jersey Shore. As a resident of the Shore for the past 34 years, he was active in the Knights of Columbus, St. Denis Council No. 3231, and was a life member [34] years of the Manasquan Elks Lodge No. 2534.

He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Veronica Farrell Gilligan and his brother, Michael Gilligan.

He is survived by his devoted daughters, Patricia Gilligan, of Sea Girt, and Maura Gilligan Harley and her husband Daniel, of Paoli, Penn., his former wife Patricia Landers Gilligan, of Wall, his siblings and their spouses, Gregory and Patricia Gilligan, of Monroe, N.Y. and Susan and Ben Schittone, of Wayne, and his six beloved grandchildren, Maggie, Katie, Lizzie, Kerry, Shane, and Erin.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA, 02241-7005.

Michael Patrick Grogan
Deacon Michael Patrick Grogan, 53, of Wall, passed away Sunday, Oct. 2 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune after a long battle with cancer surrounded his family and friends.

Michael was born in Bronx, N.Y. and raised in Monroe, N.Y. He was a 1980 graduate of United States Military Academy at West Point.

Upon his graduation Michael was stationed in Augusta, Ga. and Dayton, Ohio before his honorable service and medical retirement. Michael along with his family lived in Cornwall, N.Y. before moving to Wall in 1992.

Michael worked for Western Union and AT&T after their merge for 27 years.

Michael became a deacon in 2003 and his parish was St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt for the last eight years. He coached his children in Little League [T-Ball] and was involved with the Boy Scouts. He ran track and cross country for Monroe Woodbury High School and West Point. He truly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Michael is survived by his wife, Susan, of Wall; his parents Mary Grogan, of Sugarloaf, N.Y.; his father Eugene Grogan, Sr. and his wife Pat, of Lakewood; mother and father-in-law, Norma and Ronald Robinson, of Monroe, N.Y. He is also survived by his three children, Kathleen Grogan, of Arlington Heights, Ill., Matthew Grogan, of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Kelly Grogan, of Wall; two sisters and a brother, Mary Cassidy and her husband Paul, of Sugarloaf, N.Y., Eugene Grogan Jr., of Sherborn, Mass. and Kerry Rogers, of Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters- in-laws, Tasha Williams and her husband, Greg, of Geneva, N.Y. and Sheryl Bagalio and her husband, Greg Monroe, N.Y.; six nieces, Cailin Cassidy, Susan Williams, Lauren Cassidy, Dayna Rogers, Allison Rogers, and Anna Rogers; nine nephews, Paul Cassidy, Jr., Jonathan Williams, James Cassidy, Zachary Bagalio, Noah Bagalio, Cameron Williams, James Williams, E. Thomas Grogan III and Jack Grogan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark’s Church, Social Concerns, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, 08750 or Michael’s three children will be running in this year’s NYC Marathon in his memory and memorial donations may be sent American Cancer Society for Team Grogan at determination.acsevents.org.

Robert Hugh Bishop Jr.
Robert Hugh Bishop Jr., 82, of Point Pleasant, died Friday, Sept. 23.

Bob was born in Waltham, Mass. and was raised in Newark. Bob attended St. Benedicts Prep and graduated from Seton Hall University, and was a Naval aviator. He was a captain with Delta Airlines for 32 years.

Bob was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge No. 2534.

Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Jacqueline. He is survived by his wife, Joan Lewis Bishop, of Point Pleasant, and his eight children, Judith Vari, Cynthia Bishop, Virginia Wright, Corinne Curry, Robert H. Bishop III, Joseph Bishop, Margaret Fokas and Teresa Price; 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and the children of Joan Lewis, Joseph Lewis, Edward Lewis, Mary ellen Lewis, Patricia Florio, Jane Keegan and Matthew Lewis, as well as 13 grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed.
