Joan Lois Van Duyne Schmidt
Joan Lois Van Duyne Schmidt passed away Sept. 23 at her summer home in Spring Lake, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Newark and grew up in South Orange.
She was a graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood, and Centenary College in Hackettstown.
For numerous years, she was a resident of Deal, Mendham, and Spring Lake. In most recent years, she resided in Vero Beach, Fla.
Joan was an accomplished Bible student and teacher. For many years she was affiliated with and taught at Community Bible Study and the Executive Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.
Joan was a very active woman … loving her reading, tennis, golf, swimming, skiing, dancing, and gardening.
She was a lifelong member of Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club and Spring Lake Golf Club. Joan was currently a member of Bent Pine Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla. She loved contract bridge and was a member of the Vero Beach Bridge Club.
Joan is survived by her husband of 60 years, Alfred M. Schmidt Jr., daughter, Christy Ann Morford and husband, Richard, of Spring Lake; son, Jonathan P. Schmidt and wife, Jacqueline, of St. Charles, Il: son. A. Jeffrey Schmidt and his wife, Carmel, of Brielle; grandchildren, Lindsay Mulshine and husband, Michael, of Bordentown, Gillian and Kirsten Morford of Philadelphia, Pa., Jonathan P. Schmidt Jr., of St. Charles, Ill., Matthew and Caitlin Schmidt of Brielle, and a great-grandson, Jack Mulshine of Bordentown.
The Neary Quinn Funeral in Manasquan was in charge of arrangements. A private interment is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center, 3400 Civic Center Blvd., Philadelphia.
S. Robert ‘Bob’ Silvio
S. Robert “Bob” Silvio, 101, of Wall Township and formerly of Scotch Plains, passed away Friday, Sept. 23 at Meridian Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Center, Wall.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Scotch Plains for most of his life and then in Clark for several years before moving to Wall Township six years ago.
Bob had been employed as a production manager for Proctor & Gamble, Staten Island for his entire working career.
He was a former parishioner of St. Anthony’s Parish, Elizabeth, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council, Linden.
Bob was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Suburban Golf Club, Union.
Robert was predeceased by his son, Joseph Robert Silvio in 1965, and his siblings, Benjamin and Frank Silvio, Lillian Valillo and Rose Bennato.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 75 years, Vincenza “Jennie” Turtur Silvio, his loving niece and guardian, Pamela Turtur Kimak, of Wall, several other nieces, nephews and cousins, and his devoted aides and Elderlife family.
O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements. Entombment was in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia.
Eileen Ann Motzenbecker
Longtime Sea Girt resident Eileen Ann [McBarron] Motzenbecker, 91, died on Sept. 19 at her home.
She was born in Newark, the last of six children of Ida and William McBarron. She attended St. Columba’s Grammar school, graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy and then worked for N.J. Bell Telephone’s Directory Department. She married
William C. Motzenbecker of Newark in 1942 before moving to Bradley Beach in 1944. In 1948 she and her family moved to their newly built home in Sea Girt where she has lived until now. In 1953 Eileen and Bill were among the founding families of St. Mark’s parish in Sea Girt. She was involved in parish affairs including the Altar Rosary Society, was actively involved in the PTA of the new St. Catharine’s Grammar School, and she also was the Secretary Treasurer of the Sea Girt Homeowners Association.
Eileen is survived by Bill, her loving husband of 69 years. She was also survived by her daughter Eileen and her husband George, her daughter Patricia and her husband Ed, her son Bill and his wife Lynn and her son Kevin. She has seven grandchildren, Joe Finnin and his wife Ling, Lisa Ciccoli and her husband Dennis, Barbara Finnin, Brian Motzenbecker and his wife Michelle, Justin Motzenbecker and his wife Jenna, Eric Motzenbecker and his wife Kate and Devin Luedekke. She also had two great-grandchildren, Owen Ciccoli and Jackson Motzenbecker. She also leaves her dear nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the special caregivers of Hospice of New Jersey and her wonderful neighbors.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd. Wall. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s R.C. Church, Sea Girt. Interment
will be at St. Catharine’s Cemetery.
Shawn Kessler
Shawn Kessler, 37, of Toms River, with family in Brielle, son of Donald A. Kessler [deceased] and Leslie Nebel, passed away Sept. 8.
Shawn attended Southern Regional High School and moved on to become a carpenter that helped contribute to the building of many homes. He enjoyed fishing, camping and time with his family.
Taken far too soon, he is survived by his two brothers, Micheal, 41, and Danny 33, and his three children, Jacob Smith, Shawn Jr. and Blake Kessler.
Services will be held Sunday Sept. 25, at Cavalry Baptist Church, 13 Avenue & St. E, Belmar.

Louise Ligato
Louise Ligato 69, of Ocean, with family in Wall, died Thursday, Sept. 15 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Louise lived in Spring Lake before moving to Ocean four years ago. She was the General Manager of Heritage House Sotheby’s International Realty in Shrewsbury. She started as a real estate agent and worked her way up to general manager during her career. She was a savvy businesswoman compassionate friend and a tremendous leader. Louise was strong and powerful yet sensitive and always empathetic to her agents, who she cared for so deeply. Louise was a big fan of art, museums, fine dining in the city and also loved living at the Jersey Shore. She was an avid traveler. Louise was an animal lover especially fond of her cats, Jake and Josh.
She was predeceased by her sister Deanna Montana in 2008. She was the proud mother of her beloved son Michael Ligato and his wife Patti of Wall. Alyssa, her only grandchild, was the light of her life. Louise was very family oriented, spending as much time as possible with her nieces, nephews and all her cousins, not to mention all of her friends. She will be missed dearly by all.

Doris A. Huebner
Doris A. Huebner, of Manasquan, died Friday, Sept. 16 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., she was raised in Scarsdale, N.Y. She and her husband William raised their family in Norwood before moving to Manasquan in 1987.
Mrs. Huebner worked for the Guaranty Trust Company, now J.P Morgan, Chase, in New York until 1945. In 1945 she married
William H. Huebner and she managed and worked at Westchester Ski and Tennis in Englewood for 25 years before retiring in 1987 and moving to Manasquan.
Doris helped to establish the Manasquan Chapter of the A.A.R.P. in 1988 and volunteered with them as a secretary from 2000-2004. She also volunteered in the MCOSS office, now V.N.A., for many years, the Manasquan Library, delivered Meals on Wheels to shut-ins and was associated as a volunteer with the Commission for the Blind. Doris also worked for the Bereavement Counselor in Tinton Falls V.N.A. for two years.
Mrs. Huebner was predeceased by her husband William H. Sr. in 1995 and is survived by her son, William H. Jr. and his wife Sharon, of Glen Ridge, and her daughter, Jean Trimble and her husband Richard, of Manasquan; one brother, Raymond Ball and his wife Pat, of Valhalla, N.Y; one sister, Helen Bulling, of Victor, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Abigail and Andrew Trimble, Carolyn Jill Caccamise, Amy and William H. Huebner III and Kathleen Loshe; and six great-granddaughters, Ally DeForge, Emily, Cayley, Sidney and Avary Caccamise and Jordon Lohse.

was at Atlantic View cemetery in Manasquan.

Joanna Joy Maertens
Joanna Joy Maertens, with family in Wall, passed away on Sept. 17 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. She was 42 years old. Joanna was a realtor with Mary Holder in Wall Township. She was born in New York City and had homes in Allenhurst and in Florida. She attended the Ranney School, Neptune High School and Monmouth University. Joanna was a loving and devoted mother and friend whose zest for life took her on many exciting trips and adventures in pursuit of new experiences.
Joanna is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Jeane Politan and her brother Paul Politan Jr. She is survived by her two loving children, Evan Thomas Eloe, of Eatontown and Elise Katherine Eloe, of Wall Township, the father of her children, former husband and dear friend, Edward Eloe, and her loving former husband and dear friend, Peter Maertens.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a life celebration service on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar.
James E. Hackett
James E. Hackett, 73, of Spring Lake Heights passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Jersey Shore Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Jersey City, attended St. Peter's Prep and St. Peter’s College. He was a CPA with Haskins & Sells, Newark, vice president and controller of McGraw Hill Publications Company, and most recently the Chief Financial Officer of Allstate State Power Vac.
Jim grew up in Jersey City. He resided in Middletown for 41 years where his children attended St. Mary's New Monmouth School, Mater Dei and Christian Brothers Academy. He and his family were parishioners of St. Mary's, New Monmouth. He was currently residing in Spring Lake Heights where he loved being close to the ocean.
He was predeceased by his mother Helen Lennon Hackett, his father Edward Hackett and his brother John [Jack] Lennon Hackett.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Trudy [Keegan], his children Kathleen and her husband Sean McCauley, Jim and his wife JoAnn, Maureen and her husband Anthony Falco, Bill and his wife Janice, Eileen and her husband Brian Gross, Ed and his wife Anne.
He was always ready to brag about his children and particularly loved to boast about his 18 grandchildren and their numerous achievements. Sean, Meghan and Kyle McCauley; Seamus, Joseph and Liam Hackett; Patrick and Allison Falco; Collin, Brendan, Catherine and Aidan Hackett; Brian, Andrew and Kaitlyn Gross; Shannon, Teddy and Keegan Hackett.
Jim loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. You could always see and hear PopPop in the stands rooting them on.
Anyone that has ever met Jim, will always remember him. He was an unforgettable character. There were so many people who were influenced and touched by him. He has left his mark here on earth. He was a legend.

Francis ‘Frank’ Veltre
Francis “Frank” Veltre, 76, of Spring Lake Heights, passed away Friday, Sept. 16, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
Born in Jersey City, he had lived in the West Belmar, section of Wall Township before moving to Spring Lake Heights 50 years ago.
Frank was employed as the custodian for the Spring Lake Heights Elementary School for 26 years before retiring in 1997. Frank had a special place in his heart for his own children and grandchildren. He was very involved with all the many generations of children that he cared for at the elementary school fondly referring to each child as “Chief” when speaking with any of them.
Frank was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran and member of the local chapter of the Marine Corps League. He attended St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, and in his spare time was an avid woodworker.
He was predeceased by his three brothers John, Louis, and William.
Surviving is his devoted wife of 53 years Janice [nee Stone] Veltre, his loving children and their spouses Dennis and Nancy Veltre, of Brick, Jennifer L. Veltre, of Toms River, and Amy and Jason Breschard, of Manalapan, his four grandchildren Timothy, Kevin, Brianna and Brendan, and his two brothers Alfred, of Toms River and his twin brother Anthony and wife Carol, of Toms River.
