Joseph Pignataro
Spring Lake Heights resident Joseph Pignataro passed away on June 20 at home, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was 55 years old.
Born in East Orange, in 1952, Joseph spent his childhood in Shrewsbury.
He moved to Spring Lake Heights in 1979, after marrying his wife, Mary.
Joe attended Red Bank Catholic High School and was a graduate of Kings College, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He worked at Colonial National Bank, Long Branch, until he joined M & Q Plastics Products, in Freehold, as its inside sales manager, from 1979 to 1994.
He was the director of operations for governmental contracting with Kelly Transport, Manasquan, until his death.
Joseph is predeceased by his father, Joseph Pignataro Sr., in 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Pignataro, and their four children, Joseph Pignataro, Matthew Pignataro, Brendan Pignataro and Meghan Pignataro, all of Spring Lake Heights; his mother, LaVerne Pignataro, Shrewsbury; his brother, Bob Pignataro and his wife, Marge, and their children, Bobby, Craig and Cathy, Shrewsbury; his brother Donald Pignataro and his wife, Trisha, and their children, Michael and Gregory, Shrewsbury; his mother-in-law, Peggy Berger, Spring Lake; his sisters-in-law, Karen Haulenbeek, Spring Lake, and Susan Flaherty, Manasquan; brothers-in-law, John Haulenbeek, Spring Lake, and Brian Flaherty, Wall; and his niece, Anna Lee Flaherty.
Joe was a devoted family man who gave his love of sports to all of his children. An athlete himself, he passed his experience on serving as coach to the “Heights” Little League, soccer, softball and basketball teams.
A down-to-earth, soft-spoken gentleman, Joe, a husband, father, uncle and friend, was caring and compassionate with never an unkind word for anyone. His handicapping expertise will be missed by his railbird buddies at Monmouth Park.
Funeral services were held through the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Eleanor M. Messina
Brick resident Eleanor M. [nee Setteducati] Messina passed away Wednesday, June 27, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, after a lengthy illness. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Brielle.
She was 88 years old.
She was a homemaker and loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and dear sister. Born in Newark, she had resided in South Plainfield for many years, before moving to Brick, 26 years ago.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frank J. Messina; her son and his wife, Frank A. and Jean Messina, of Brielle; her daughter, Maryann McCluskey, of Watchung; her two sisters, Rita Scaglione, of Cliffwood Beach, and Lucille Cortellacci, of Bridgewater; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Entombment was held at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.
Donald E. Koch
Donald E. Koch, 82, of Brick, died suddenly on Thursday, Aug. 16 at his home.
Born in Jersey City, to the late Fred J. and Leona L. [Coakley] Koch, he was raised in Point Pleasant Beach and has lived in Brick for the past 50 years.
After graduating from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1948 he entered the United States Navy and served on the aircraft carrier, USS Valley Forge during the Korean War.
Mr. Koch and his wife were the co-owners of the Off Shore Restaurant, Point Pleasant Beach, for 40 years.
He was an avid model railroad enthusiast and also operated the Jenkinson’s Beach Train. Other favorite pastimes were golfing and fishing. He was a Philadelphia sports teams fan and attended the Philadelphia Phillies “Dream Team” five times.
Mr. Koch was a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Point Pleasant Lodge, No. 1698, and served as Exalted Ruler from 1978-79. He also was a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club.
Surviving are his beloved wife, of nearly 62 years, Elizabeth Jane DiTullio Koch; his daughter, Deborah White and her husband Michael of Bernville, Pa.; two sons, David E. Koch and his wife Mary of Kennesaw, Ga.; and Dale Koch and his wife Sylvia of Brick; his brother, James F. Koch; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Adam, Meredith, Kristin, Travis, and Derek; and his great-grandson, Robby.
Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road., was in charge of arrangements.
Military honors, followed by interment took place at the BG Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Lois Patterson Wisniewski
Lois Patterson Wisniewski, 75, a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant Beach, died on Friday, Aug. 17 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.
She was born in Point Pleasant Hospital to the late Joseph S. Patterson and Marjorie Makin Patterson. After graduating from Point Pleasant Beach High School, she attended Upsala College where she met her future husband, Al and graduated in 1959.
Lois was an active member of the community, but she devoted her life to raising her family and helping those around her. Lois was a member of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where she was a participant in the Lydia circle group.
She was the treasurer of the Point Pleasant Beach Republican Club for many years and loved working on Election Day to man the voting booths.
She was a co-founder of the Point Pleasant Beach Girls Softball Recreation League, where she coached for many years.
She was also a member of the Towamencin, Pa. chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution.
Lois was a licensed real estate agent and worked at Donnelly Real Estate for several years. In addition, Lois was an avid quilter and crafter, and her family has been the happy recipients of her beautiful creations.
She was the cherished wife of the late Alexander Stanley Wisniewski and beloved Mother of her four children: Joe and his wife, Tracy of Point Pleasant, Jim and his wife, Kathy of Point Pleasant Beach, Sandy and her husband, Jim of Harleysville Pa. and John and his wife, Mary Ellen of Point Pleasant. And she was the adored Grammy of her grandchildren: Stephen, Sara, Amy, Emma, Rachel, Joe, Mike and Claire.
She is also survived by her brothers, Joe Patterson and his wife, Cynthia, Glenn Patterson and his wife, Christine, sister, Connie Patterson Johnson and her sister-in-law, Kathy Mazur Wisniewski.
In addition, “Aunt Lo” was beloved by her many nieces and nephews.

was private.

Mary Ann [Lynch] Wallace
Mary Ann [Lynch] Wallace, age 66 of Point Pleasant Beach, died on Sunday, Aug. 19 at her home.
She was born and raised in Jersey City and lived for over 27 years in Roselle Park, before moving to Point Pleasant Beach a year ago.
She was employed as an educator with the Jersey City Board of Education for over 39 years and served many years as the principal of Frank R. Conwell School No. 3 in Jersey City; retiring in 2007.
She was a long-time parishioner, active volunteer, Eucharistic Minister, and lector at the Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park. She was also a parishioner, Eucharistic Minister, and lector at St. Peter’s R.C. Church in Point Pleasant Beach. She was a member of the NEA, NJEA, PSA, ASA, ASCD, and mentored incoming candidates for principal positions with the Foundation of Educational Organization.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Robert A. Wallace; a son, Robert V. and his wife, Jean of New City, N.Y.; two daughters, Annemarie Hanley and her husband, Keith of Point Pleasant Beach and Megan B. Duffy and her husband, Kevin of Queens, N.Y.; her Godson, Andrew Wallace and his wife, Amy of Howell; a cousin, Brian Cooley of Point Pleasant Beach; two brothers, Michael and Vincent; a sister Rosemary Slider; seven grandchildren, Anna, Claire, Avery, Marianne, William, Kevin and Keith; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Entombment was in St. Catharine’s cemetery in Wall.

Daniel P. Miller
Long time Spring Lake resident Daniel P. Miller died Friday, Aug. 10, in Melbourne, Fla. He was 89.
Danny was the Construction Official and Zoning Officer in numerous Monmouth County municipalities for nearly 20 years, before retiring in 1986. Prior to his public service, he was a union ironworker, managed R.A. Steelman Company in Trenton and owned and operated Industrial Metal Erection, a steel erection company, out of Spring Lake. He was involved in various sports associations and civic organizations and was a communicant of Saint Catherine’s Church, Spring Lake, and Ascension Catholic Church, Melbourne, Fla.
Eve Miller, his wife of 63 years, predeceased him in January of this year.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Linda Patricia Miller and her husband Dr. Denis R. Miller, Tuxedo Park, N.Y.; his son, Daniel Miller, Jr., Tuxedo, N.Y.; his son, Randy Miller and his wife, Robbie Miller, Flemington; and his grand-children and great grand-children.
Benjamin John Newman
Benjamin John Newman, formerly of Manasquan, of Winchester, Mass., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Aug. 19, after a brave two year battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was 57.
He was born to Thomas U. Newman and the late Alice Jean [Van Schoick] Newman and was raised in Manasquan. He resided in New Rochelle, N.Y. and then Cambridge, Mass. for 19 years before recently moving to Winchester, Mass. with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Ellen Madigan Newman, and his daughters Riley Elizabeth, 3 and one-half years old, and twins Caitrin Mary and Teagan Alice, 17 months old. He is also survived by his father Thomas U. Newman and devoted sisters Jane Newman and Patricia Dombroski, of Wall; niece, Kimberly Newman Gargin, and nephews Benjamin and David Dombroski.
He is predeceased by his mother Alice Jean [Van Schoick] Newman and brother James A. Newman.
A graduate of Wall High School, Ben received a BA in Political Science from Fordham University, class of 1977. He started his lifelong career in New York City as an advertising representative for TeleRep, and then spent several years in sales at MMT. Ten years later, Ben moved to broadcasting sales with Westinghouse Company, also in New York City. In 1992, Ben relocated to Boston to Westinghouse-owned WBZ TV as a broadcasting sales manager, and he has remained at WBZ [CBS Channel 4] since then. During his career, Ben effortlessly built a remarkable network of friends and colleagues across the country. His kind, gentle style and warm smile touched the lives of so many individuals during his career. He will also be remembered as a fanatically loyal Yankee Fan living harmoniously in the middle of Red Sox Nation.
Ben was a lifelong reader of the NY Times, and always livened the conversation by sharing his knowledge about sports, news and current events. He was a past member of the New York Athletic Club. Ben was also an avid golfer with a single digit handicap, and a former member of the Pocasset Golf Club on Cape Cod, where he was proud to have played a round at even par. He considered himself lucky enough to have played at distinguished courses around the world, including; The Olympic Club, Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, Winged Foot, Ballybunion (Ireland), The Olde Course at St. Andrew’s (Scotland), Carnoustie (Scotland), Troon (Scotland), Turnberry (Scotland), The Country Club, Eastwood Ho, and Kittansett. He was on the winning team of the First Annual First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan Golf tournament, with his wife, father and nephew.
Ben loved the Jersey Shore and spent many years lifeguarding at Essex and Sussex Hotel, Spring Lake. Through the support of caring family and friends, Ben was able to recently enjoy a last visit to his family’s home in Manasquan, which included trips to Manasquan beach and the Point Pleasant Boardwalk, and visits by many dear and devoted friends and family. In addition, Ben and Ellen and their girls enjoyed many wonderful times at their home in the White Mountains, in Lincoln, N.H.
Ben is also survived by a loving and supportive extended family, including in-laws Francis (Bud) and Mary Madigan, and five brother and sister-in laws; Kathy and Tom Dickinson, Fran and Susan Madigan, Mary Fran and Richard Bauchspies, Margaret and Frank Tietje, and James and Marybeth Madigan, along with 12 nieces and nephews. Ben spent many happy times with the Madigans at their summer home in Gray Gables on Cape Cod.
Arrangements were under the direction of Lane Funeral Home in Winchester, Mass. A graveside burial is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. at the Atlantic View Cemetery, Church Street, Manasquan.
