Frank Diana
Frank Diana, formerly of South Plainfield, died on Oct. 18 in Manasquan at the age of 88, after a long battle with Vascular Dementia.
Frank is survived by his wife June of 63 years; daughters Gail Diana Wylam and her husband, Paul of South Plainfield; Jill Diana Synosky and her husband Steve of Green Brook; a son Dr. Kenneth Diana and his wife Susan of Manasquan; 10 grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Frank is predeceased by his parents Frank and Elma Diana and brothers Donald and Russell Diana.
Born June 14, 1924 he was proud to be one of the few natural born South Plainfielders. Frank graduated from North Plainfield High School and attended Union Junior College. Frank enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943 and served his country during WWII and the Korea Conflict as a 1st Lieutenant. He was employed by NJ Bell and retired after 37 years as an engineer. Frank was active in South Plainfield as a volunteer firefighter for 41 years serving as chief for three years. He was elected to the board of education and served as president from 1976-77. He was also president of the planning board, Lions Club and was the Grand Marshall of the 1982 Labor Day Parade. After moving to Manasquan in 1984 he became active on the planning board, Manasquan Beach Association and the Manasquan Elks.
A Celebration of Frank’s life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Frist Presbyterian Church, 16 Virginia Avenue, Manasquan, 08736. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department 123 Maple Avenue, South Plainfield, 07080.
Georgiana G. DeNucci
Georgiana G. DeNucci, 105, of Lakewood, formerly of Long Branch, with family in Brielle, died Thursday, Oct. 18 at her daughters home in Lakewood. Born in Long Branch, she lived in Long Branch all of her life before moving to Lakewood five years ago.
Mrs. DeNucci was a librarian for the Long Branch Public Library for many years before retiring. Prior, she worked as a proof reader for the Long Branch Daily Record. She was a member of Manasquan United Methodist Church.
Mrs. DeNucci was pre-deceased by her first husband Richard Hampton, second husband, Andrew DeNucci, son Richard Hampton and three sisters, Bernice Dietrich, Alice Conner & Beatrice Robinson. Georgiana is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Kelenbenz, with whom she lived, Joan Penn of Manassas, Va., and her sister, Gertrude Beer of Lakewood, three grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
Interment was held at Greenwood cemetery in Brielle. In lieu of flowers, donations to Manasquan United Methodist Church.

Raymond L. Waddell
Raymond L. Waddell, 73, of Sea Girt, died Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune with his family by his side.
Raymond was born and raised in Neptune and a graduate of Neptune High School, 1957. Raymond lived in Neptune City for over 30 years before moving to Wall 11 years ago. Raymond worked for Asbury Park Press, Frequency Engineering and retired from Monmouth County as a data entry technician.
Raymond was an avid fisherman, a member of the North Shore Antique Automobile Club, and a train enthusiast. Raymond coached soccer, baseball and softball. He was also a former member of the Shark River Hills Fire Company.
Raymond was predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth Cole Waddell and his parents Raymond and Teresa Waddell. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Lois Waddell of Wall; two sons and two daughters-in-law Kenneth and Nancy Waddell of New Paltz, NY and Richard and Debra Waddell of Forked River; a daughter and son -in-law Lisa and Steve Rutherford of Port Orange, Fla. Raymond is also survived by a sister Janet Sciarappo of Wall and a brother and sister-in-law Donald and Lynn Waddell of Shark River Hills; seven grandchildren and one great- grandson; a sister-in-law and her husband Marilyn and Joseph Crofton of East Hanover; nine nieces and nephews and his beloved pets Missy and Rusty.

Julie I. Sudol
Julie I. Sudol, 54, of Manasquan, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, surrounded by her family. Throughout her two year battle with melanoma she remained the joyful, strong, positive person she had always been. Her smile and laughter was infectious, and she was loved by all. She is survived by her daughter, Mandie Bullock, her son, Shea Sudol, her grandson, Blake Bullock, and her father, Barry Ivins. The magnitude of her untimely passing is incomprehensible. A celebration of Julie’s life will be held on Friday, Oct. 26, from 5-7 p.m., at 129 Beachfront, Manasquan.
Herbert E. Stiefel
Herbert E. Stiefel, 83, of Avon by the Sea, died on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
Mr. Stiefel retired in 2004 as president of Eastern Concrete Decks Inc.
He previously was the VP of JB Eurell in South Hackensack.
He was a 1948 graduate of Pennington Prep in Pennington and also was a proud graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. He was a member of the Bucknell All Time Football team and played on the only undefeated, untied 1951 team. He also was inducted to the Bucknell Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998 for football and was a member of Bucknell Alumni. During his youth, Mr. Stiefel was a Manasquan Beach Lifeguard from 1945 - 1951 and enjoyed vacationing for many years in the islands, especially St. Johns, USVI.
Born and raised in East Orange, he lived in Cranford and Hazlet before moving to Avon 25 years ago.
He was predeceased by his son Robert Stiefel in 2002. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Ginger O’Donnell Stiefel of Avon; former wife Barbara Schink of Tinton Falls; three daughters Karin Stiefel and her life partner Charles Kilgore of Upper Black Eddy, Pa., Kathy DeLisi and her husband Dr. Michael DeLisi of Randolph, Erin O’Donnell of Bradley Beach ; two sons James O’Donnell and his wife Janette O’Donnell of Toms River and Timothy O’Donnell and his wife Karen O’Donnell of Howell. He also leaves eight grandchildren, one great- granddaughter and many, many dear friends.

Ella ‘Jane’ Hunt
Ella “Jane” Hunt, 90, of Neptune City, with family in Wall, died on Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Mrs. Hunt was a secretary for NJ National Bank in Neptune before retiring many years ago. She was a member of Ascension RC Church in Bradley Beach and was involved with many of the parish activities and fund raising projects. She was a former treasurer and active member of the Monmouth County Women’s Club, a member of the Neptune City Senior Citizens and volunteered at the Bradley Beach Food Pantry.
Jane was born and raised in Newark and lived in Bogota before moving to Neptune City in 1967.
She was predeceased by her son Robert Thomas in 1979 and by her brother Thomas Buchanan. Surviving are her son James Michael Hunt Jr. and his wife Patricia of Point Pleasant; daughter Nancy Mattia and her husband Jack of Wall as well as six grandchildren Matthew, Douglas, and Rebecca Mattia and Jennifer, Kaitlyn and Patrick Hunt. She also leaves her niece Leslie Buchanan Gross of California.

Robert Hunt Gardner
Robert Hunt Gardner, 82, of Manasquan, died peacefully Oct. 17 at his home with his loving wife present. He was born in New Bedford, Mass. on Dec. 1, 1929, the son of Millicent Kent and Francis Gardner. He graduated from the Electrical Department of New Bedford Vocational High School in Massachusetts in 1948 and began work as an electrician at the Ace Cabinet Corporation where he assisted in the supervision of the assembly and testing of laundry dryers. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and joined the Instrument Repairman’s School based in Georgia. During his service in the Army he was stationed in Fort Monmouth and Okinawa, Japan and worked as an instrument repairman, repairing electronic instruments. He was honorably discharged in 1959, but continued work with the U.S. Army until he retired in 1985. In 1985, he was joined in marriage to Faith Evans in a backyard ceremony at their home in Manasquan. Robert was very active with the Manasquan Fire Department and served as Fire Chief from 1974-1975. He held various positions with the Manasquan Fire Department, dedicating over 55 years of service. Robert was a member of the Lion’s Club, had an interest in trains, enjoyed golf, sitting at the Manasquan Inlet with the Over the Rail Gang, taking his dog, Buster, for walks and reading the Wall Street Journal. His sister, Joyce, and his parents preceded him in death. Surviving family include: his wife, Faith; his brother, Richard; his children, William Davis, Monroe, North Carolina and Nina Carr and her husband, David, of Marion, Kansas; his grandchildren, Cody Carr, of Marion, Kansas and Tracy Khounsavanh Killough and her husband Ryan Killough of Topeka, Kansas. S. Rosemary O’Brien
Flourtown, Pa. resident Sister Rosemary O’Brien, SSJ, formerly S. John Thomas, and who taught at St. Rose High School, Belmar, died July 7 at St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown, Pa.
She was 88 years old.
She is the sister of S. Frances Gervase O’Brien SSJ and the late Thomas, Jack [Helen], Frank [Ruth], James [Jackie], Eileen O’Brien and Elizabeth Bogden [Frank].
She is also survived by nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and members of her Congregation, The Sisters of St. Joseph.
Religious, relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass today at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph Villa, 110 W. Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, Pa. 19031. The viewing will be held after 1:30 p.m. and interment will be held at Villa Cemetery.

Dolores T. Evans
Brentwood, Calif. resident Dolores T. [Jansen] Evans, formerly of Manasquan, died in Hospice House in Alamo, Calif., on Oct. 24, 2007.
Dolores fought a valiant battle with cancer for over a year before entering Hospice House on Oct. 23.
She was the first baby born in the Manasquan Ambulance on May 14, 1940, while her mother, Mrs. John H. Hansen, was being rushed to Fitkin Hospital. The ambulance birth was the first of the record for the local squad during the 11 years of its existence.
Dolores graduated from St. Catharine’s Grade School, Spring Lake, in 1954, where she was a cheerleader for the basketball team. She graduated from St. Rose High School, Belmar, in 1958, and was also a cheerleader at the high school for the basketball team.
After high school, Dolores worked as a secretary for Fee & Mason Co., Wyckoff Avenue, Manasquan, before moving to Pittsburg, Calif., with her parents, John H. and Marie T. [Larsen] Jansen Sr., of Manasquan.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her sister-in-law, Joanne Elizabeth [Werfel] Jansen.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Brent Braddock Evans, of Brentwood, Calif.; her sons, Lee Braddock and Michael Preston, California, John Noble, Washington; daughters, Tara Teresa and husband, Jeff, of Washington, and Renee Nicole, of Brentwood, Calif.; grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael, David and Michael Evans, of California.
She is also survived by her sister, Rosemarie Steep and her husband, Carlton, of Bethesda, Md.; her brother, John H. Jansen Jr. and his wife, Carol Ann, of Cape May.
A cremation followed her death and a celebration of life was held in Brentwood, Calif. in November.
Martha J. Thompson
Manasquan Park section of Wall resident Martha Jane Thompson died on Wednesday, July 2.
She was 70 years old.
Born in Rahway to the late Thomas and Jennie Wright Thompson, she had lived in Avon and in Point Pleasant Beach, residing in Manasquan Park since 1987.
Jane was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and had worked at Steinbach’s, Asbury Park, and later at Brockway Glass Company, Freehold, where she was a supervisor.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Lou Walther, Phyllis Petras, and Virginia Wright Tucker, and by her brother, Thomas Thompson.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her nephew, Frederick Walther Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Hoboken, and their children, Thomas James and Allison Grace Walther; and other family members and dear friends.
Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
As an expression of sympathy, contributions made in her memory to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, Trenton Road, Browns Mills, 08015, would be appreciated.

Mary Newman
Sea Girt resident Mary Blanche Newman died on Friday, July 4 surrounded by her loving family and friends at Fish Memorial Hospital, Orange City, Fla.
Born in Bradley Beach, and a graduate of Asbury Park High School, Mary later moved to Sea Girt where she was a beautician until 2005, when she retired and moved to Deltona, Fla., to live with her daughter, Donna Newman.
She was predeceased by her son, Timmy Newman, of Farmingdale.
She is survived by her Donna Newman, of Deltona, Fla.; two grandchildren, Vanessa Hampil and Clint Newman, of Howell; and her beloved kitty cats, Mazzie and Mama.
Mary loved Spring Lake beach and it was her favorite place to be with friends. Her ashes will be taken there as her final resting place.
