J. Dennis Sullivan Jr.
J. Dennis Sullivan, Jr., of Point Pleasant Beach and Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Bound Brook died on Saturday, Jan. 5 peacefully at home with his family, at age 77.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, New Brunswick.
Born in New Brunswick, Dennis was the son of the late John D. Sullivan and Frances R. Sullivan. Known to most as Den, he was raised in Highland Park, and graduated from Highland Park High School.
Following high school he attended and graduated Rutgers University where he was president of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was also editor in chief of the Rutgers yearbook, The Scarlet Letter, secretary -treasurer of his class and a member of the “Who’s Who, ” Cap and Skull, and Crown and Scroll Honor Societies.
As an alumnus Den was active in university affairs, having served on the University Board of Trustess for a six-year term. He was also a past president of the Rutgers Alumni Association, the Rutgers Club, The Alumni Interfraternity Council, and the DEKE Alumni Association and his Alumni class. He was a recipient of the Rutgers Loyal Son Award, the Earnest T. Gardner Award and the Class of 1931 Award for outstanding service to the university and the community.
Den Was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, New Brunswick, for over 60 years and served as a Vestry member and in the church choir for 37 years.
Active in New Brunswick affairs, Den served on the Board of Directors for the former New Brunswick Savings and its successor. He was also a past president of the Raritan Valley YMCA, the Neighborhood House of New Brunswick, and a recipient of the Greater New Brunswick Jaycees “Young Man of the Year” award.
Den served on the Bound Brook Borough Council for a three- year term.
He was also a U.S. Army Veteran, having served a seven-year active and reserve duty enlistment commitment.
Den was president of the Parker, Remsen, and Sullivan, Inc. Insurance Agency, originally of New Brunswick, but more recently of Highland Park for over 30 years. He retired from the agency in 2002.
He is survived by his wife Andrea [Poquette] and his children Kathryn L. Bauer of Middlesex and Point Pleasant Beach, John D. Sullivan III of Wilmington, N.C., Michael D. Sullivan of Point Pleasant Beach, and a stepson James Caprio of Point Pleasant.
He is also survived by his sister Virginia Sullivan Paulus of Salam, S.C. and eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations to Restore the Shore in Den’s memory would be appreciated.

William B. Lott Jr.
William B. Lott Jr., 75 of Point Pleasant and Palm Harbor, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8.
He was predeceased by his wife, Laura; parents, William B., Sr. and Emma [Smith] Lott, and sisters, Ellen Duff and Genevieve Viles.
Surviving are two sisters, Emma “Jo” Connors of Point Pleasant and Grace Camus of Florida; many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
At 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, a memorial service will held at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may gather from 10:30 a.m.
Richard H. LaBonte
Richard H. LaBonte, 90, of Bay Head, died Tuesday, April 26 at Burnt Tavern Convalescent Center, Brick.
Dick was born in 1921 in Battle Creek, Mich. and grew up in Wilmette, Ill. His writing and artistic skills were honed at New Trier High School and Colgate University, when he met his wife Katie.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as commanding officer of a submarine chaser in the South Pacific. Dick’s postwar business career included 28 years with the McGraw Hill Publishing Company in New York, as promotions director for Business Week Magazine, among other positions.
He took early retirement in the 1970s, moved from Upper Montclair, where the family lived, to Bay Head, and began a second career as an artist. He bought the Anchor & Palette Gallery in 1978, where he sold his original acrylics and other artists’ paintings. In 1986, his daughter, Anne LaBonte Neff took over the business for him, later buying the gallery.
For many years, he was considered the town historian, researching the history of Bay Head, Mantoloking and other Shore towns for his paintings. He had two exhibits of his historical paintings at the Bay Head Historical Society Museum, authored several books, and is listed in the “Who’s Who in American Art.”
Dick painted over 175 paintings in his 30-year career as an artist, and is best known for his painting titled, “Cocktails at the White House, ” depicting all of the Presidents and First Ladies at an imaginary party on the White House lawn.
Dick served two three-year terms on Bay Head’s borough council, was chairman of the House Committee of the Bay Head Yacht Club, and was an Honorary Member of the Bay Head Fire Company.
Dick received the Bay Head Yacht Club’s “Bay Head Bowl, ” was named Fireman of the Year for 2009 by the Bay Head Fire Company, and last year, he and his wife Katie received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Bay Head School Foundation.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Kennedy LaBonte; son, Richard A. LaBonte, Bay Head; two daughters, Anne LaBonte Neff, Bay Head, and Lucie C. LaBonte, Gold Beach, Ore.; his sister, Eleanor Sollis, Old Lyme, Conn.; three grandchildren, Aimee Knerr, Princeton, Felicia Kenney, Eugene, Ore., and Jessica Brennan, Olney, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Spencer and Chloe Knerr, and Aiden Brennan.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bay Head Fire Company No 1, in Bay Head.

Stephen L. Tousignant
Stephen L. [Tuzeneu] Tousignant, 76, has passed away.
In celebration of Stephen’s life, a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Fourth and Lake avenues, Spring Lake.
Stephen was a lifelong resident of Wall Township. He was the grandson of the late Lee and Catherine Loveland, of Point Pleasant, and was instrumental in the puchase of the Loveland Homestead for the Bay Head Historical Society museum.

Eleanor Brych Klein
Eleanor Brych Klein, 90, died April 21 in Bridgewater..
Eleanor was born in Manhattan, New York on June 9, 1920 to William Brych and Catherine Misilo Brych. She was the eldest of six children.
Eleanor moved to the New Market section of Piscataway in 1923, where she lived for most of her life and attended local grammar schools. Upon completing her sophomore year at Dunellen High School, Eleanor’s father was injured in an automobile accident and, due to family financial difficulties, it was decided she had to look for work and would not be able to complete high school.
However, a family friend, a registered nurse, hired her as a nanny for her 6-year-old daughter, and Eleanor was able to attend Plainfield High School while the child was at school. This was fine for Eleanor, and she graduated from Plainfield High School in 1938.
After graduation, her first job was for the City Real Estate Appraisal and Insurance Office in Plainfield. She passed her Civil Service exam and went to work for the War Department at Camp Kilmer, New Brunswick.
Eleanor married
Charles Klein in 1943 and transferred to the War Department at Goldsboro, N.C., where Charles was stationed. Upon his discharge, they lived in Dunellen and New Market for many years and, upon retirement in 1989, moved to West Point Island in Lavallette.
Eleanor was also employed by Burroughs Federal Credit Union and was a member of its Board of Directors. For many years, she worked at the Dunellen Recreation and taught arts and crafts receiving numerous commendations, one from the Mayor of Dunellen which she treasured. She taught Brownie Troops and Girl Scouts in Piscataway and Dunellen often serving as Cookie Chairperson.
Eleanor was active in the PTA in Piscataway and Dunellen as well. She co-chaired the Dime-A-Dip dinners to fund the Dunellen High School Student Loan Fund. And for many years she was a volunteer for FISH Tri-County, the Interfaith Hospitality Network. Both Eleanor and her husband were active in the Lavallette Seniors and delivered meals on wheels to homebound residents. Eleanor was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lavallette First Aid Squad where she served on many committees. Eleanor was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piscataway and St. Bonaventure R.C. Church in Lavallette. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters Court Regina Coeli 940 of Dunellen. Besides raising her family and volunteering, Eleanor also found time to golf, sew, play pinochle and bridge. She was an avid reader and enjoyed antiquing.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles, who died in 2004. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ann Nolan and brother, Tony Cuba. She leaves behind her four loving and caring daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Charles Shefsky of Green Brook, Nancy and Terry Gass of Lavallette, Cathy and John Kitchen of Bedminster and Patricia and Robert Anzovino of Acworth, GA.; her grandchildren, Kristin Antico and her husband Joseph of Branchburg, Jonathan Kitchen and his wife Danielle of Hoboken, Adam Shefsky and his wife Danielle of Chester, Jennifer Kitchen of Somerset and Amy and Ben Anzovino of Acworth, GA.; and her much-loved great grandchildren, Carleigh and Emily Antico of Branchburg and Brooke Shefsky of Chester. She is also survived by her sister Sophie Chodak and her husband Frank of South Plainfield; her brothers, William Cuba and his wife Beverly of Piscataway and Richard Cuba and his wife Mary Elizabeth of Doylestown, Pa. and her brother-in-law Julius Klein of Atlanta and many nieces and nephews.

Harry F. Megill
Harry F. Megill, 57, of Toms River, passed away Monday, April 18.
Born in Fort Monmouth, to the late Harold A., Sr. and Mary Louise Gifford Megill, he was formerly of Point Pleasant and Orlando, Fla., and had lived in Toms River for the past 10 years.
Surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene & Terri Megill and Ronald & Joann Megill; three nieces, one nephew, five grand nephews, and one grand niece.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, a Memorial Requiem will be said at St. Mary’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Forman and Atlantic Avenues, Point Pleasant Beach, followed by inurnment at the parish memorial garden.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
A private cremation was arranged by the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant.
Barbara J. Clayton
Barbara J. Clayton, 75, died on Thursday, April 21, at Martin Memorial Hospital North, in Stuart, Fla.
Barbara moved to the area in 1996 from Point Pleasant Beach.
She was Business Administrator/Board Secretary at Point Pleasant Beach School system in Point Pleasant Beach. She volunteered for the Hoke Library and was Co-founder of the Martin Co. Friends of the Library Book Depot in Stuart, Fla.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Harvey Clayton of Jensen Beach, Fla, daughter, Jeanne Clayton Parks of Amherst, MA, son, Bob Clayton of Celebration, Fla., 4 grandchildren, Kathryn and Michael Parks, and Alex and Anna Clayton.

Mary G. Calenda
Mary G. Calenda [née Russo], 101, of Point Pleasant Beach, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 22, in Ocean Medical Center in Brick.
Mrs. Calenda was born in New York City and lived in Belleville, then Clark, before moving to Point Pleasant Beach 36 years ago. She enjoyed playing church bingos and loved her trips to Atlantic City.
Mrs. Calenda was the beloved wife of the late Mr. Joseph Calenda [2000] and the devoted mother of Mr. Gabriel A. Calenda and his late wife Marie, Mr. Anthony J. Calenda and his wife Annabella, and the late Mr. George Calenda and his wife Rose. She was the cherished grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 20.
