Charles R. Salkeld
Charles [Chuck] R. Salkeld, 71, a longtime resident of Brielle, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, in Cape Coral, Fla. He was born, Jan. 20, 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Charles and Nancy Salkeld, now deceased.

Chuck graduated from Manasquan High School in 1959 where he was recognized as an outstanding football player. In February of this year he was welcomed into the Manasquan High School Hall of Fame as the “unsung hero” for his 1958 undefeated team. He later attended Lafayette University on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

An avid fisherman, he was frequently recognized in sporting periodicals and local newspapers. He most enjoyed fishing with his family and friends and sharing his extensive knowledge with others.

As a boat captain, he chartered many voyages and was admired by many in the fishing community for his service, knowledge, and dedication to the sport. He also enjoyed duck hunting and was a skilled taxidermist. His work in this area will be missed by many who enjoyed his detailed and beautiful work.

Chuck loved sports and working with children. He was a chemistry teacher at Wall High School as well as a football and baseball coach.

In 2011 he was recognized by the mayor and Police Department of Brielle for aiding in the apprehension of a local thief who had terrorized six jurisdictions in the area for many previous months with a proclamation and designation of Aug. 24 as “Charles Salkeld Day” to commemorate his bravery and service to the community.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Linda Salkeld and their daughter Amanda Salkeld of Tampa, Fla.; he is also survived by six of his children, Dr. Charles Scott Salkeld and his wife, Jacqueline of Marmora, Lisa Davies and her husband, Steve of Bath, England, Lori Boyle and her husband, Patrick of Springfield, Va., Leslie Dettlinger and her husband, Sean of Brielle, Bret Salkeld of Brielle, and Lacey Smith and her husband Daniel, of Venice, Fla.; two brothers, Richard Salkeld and his wife, Dianne of Matlacha, Fla. and Stephen Salkeld of Sea Girt, one sister, Holly Fischer and her husband, Christian of Scottsdale, Ariz. and 13 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan, 16 Virginia Ave., Manasquan 08736.

Carole Jean Biagi
Carole Jean Biagi [nee Pastore], 67, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, April 22 at her home in Bluffton, S.C.

A devoted wife and mother, Carole leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Arthur R. Biagi, and daughters Jeana M Biagi Stritter, formerly of Belmar, and her husband George, of Newton, Amy R. Biagi of Staten Island, N.Y., Diana C. Tarulli and her husband Michael of Bluffton, S.C., and three grandchildren, Morgan, Michael and Anthony.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward D. Pastore, and is survived by her mother Mary Samaro Pastore, of New Port Richey, Fla., and her sister Edwina M. “Winnie” Lens, of Wesley Chapel, Fla. In addition, she is survived by her aunts, many cousins, and nieces and nephews residing in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, California, Florida, Virginia and Ohio.

Originally from New Brunswick and an Honor Society Graduate of East Brunswick High School, Carole was retired, an avid gardener and a homemaker.

She will be most remembered for her adventurous spirit and humor, her love of her family, and her giving, hard-working nature.

Carole enjoyed many years of travel to favorite places, and was a faithful, life-long devoted member and a Deaconess of her church.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, May 10, at The Knights of Columbus Council Hall, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick, next to St. Bartholomew Church.

All family, friends and members of her church are invited to attend.

John Fisher Cain
John Fisher Cain, 76, of Atlanta, Ga., formally of Spring Lake, died at home on May 7, with his wife, Mimi Cain by his side.

He has two daughters and sons-in-law, Maggie and Stephen Luzzi, and Betsy and Barry Callaghan; two granddaughters, Ella and Chloe Luzzi; as well as two grandsons, Jack Luzzi and Luke Callaghan, all of Spring Lake.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, where he resided.

John E. Delcomyn
John E. Delcomyn, 79, of Spring Lake Heights, and Palm City, Fla., passed away on May 4 at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold.

Born in Brooklyn to the late Torkel and Margarthe Delcomyn. He resided in Brooklyn until moving to Spring Lake Heights 31 years ago. He maintained dual residency between New Jersey and Florida for a continual summer. He was a member of Bamm Hollow Country Club in N.J. and Martin Downs Country Club in Florida.

John retired as a Systems Analyst from Home Life Insurance Company after 33 years of service. He enjoyed playing golf, going to the beach and being with friends.

He is survived by his beloved Shirley and cousins Frantz Menne of Florida, Myrna Kunkel of Missouri, Michael Jorgensen of Texas, and Rick Jorgensen of New York.

A gathering will be held on Saturday, May 11, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall. A Memorial Service will be follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The committal will be private.

Contributions may be made in John’s name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10001.

Marion Barrasso
Barrasso, 95, of Greenbriar I, Brick with family in Brielle, passed away on Saturday, May 4, at home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Barrasso worked as a dress designer for many years. She was the owner and operator of La Boutique Bridals in Bloomfield before retiring many years ago.

She was the matriarch of the family as well as an adored grandmother and cherished great grandmother and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Born in Harrison she grew up in Kearny and lived in Bloomfield before moving to brick 32 years ago.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Alessio Barrasso in 1988 and by her parents Gerard and Mary Carbone as well as her brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her daughters Anne McCloskey of North Carolina, Alberta Infantolino and her husband Dr. Philip Infantolino of Brielle, and Donna “Candy” Verona and her husband John Verona of Montville; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick.

James Francis Lyden
James Francis Lyden of Belmar passed away on March 30 at the ripe young age of 88. James, who was known to family and friends as Jim or Buddy, was born in Jersey City, the second of six children born to Peter and Anna [nee Emmers] Lyden.

His father, Peter Lyden, emigrated from Ireland to the U.S. as a young man who spoke only Gaelic, but eventually attained the rank of Lieutenant in the Jersey City Police Department, an achievement his son was very proud of.

Mr. Lyden served as an Aviation Ordnanceman in the U.S. Navy from 1942 - 1946, and was stationed in the Pacific during World War II. A graduate of St. Peter’s College, Jersey City, Mr. Lyden married Patricia Burke of Chicago, Illinois in 1953 and settled in Wall where they raised five children. Jim was very active in the American Legion Post #346 in Neptune.

He served as Post Commander from September 1962 to August 1963, and Adjutant for many years. He was voted by the membership to be an Honorary Life Member, one of only 40 members to receive this distinction. Mr. Lyden retired from the Insurance Company of North America in 1980. Buddy had a special weakness for crossword puzzles, and would do five or six per day.

Some years after the death of Patricia, Buddy married Dorothy “Dot” Lavender. Following Dot’s death in 2001, Mr. Lyden moved to Atlanta area to be near his daughter, Maureen Halstead. In addition to Maureen and her husband, Gregory, of Woodstock, Ga., Mr. Lyden is survived by three other children and their respective spouses: Susan Milona and her husband, Nicholas, of Marblehead, Mass., James P. Lyden and his wife, Sharon, of Wall and Gregory Lyden and his wife, Catherine Tormey, of Belmar, as well as a stepson, the Hon. Dennis Lavender and his wife, Barbara, of Sea Girt, and a stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Lavender, of Shark River Hills. His daughter, Barbara Gasperini, son-in-law Dr. Kenneth Dawson, and stepson, Michael Lavender, predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his brother Peter, and sisters Clare Newell and Kathleen Senecke. He is survived by a brother, Walter, of New York, N.Y., and a sister, Imelda Killeen of Manahawkin, as well as ten grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 10 a.m. on May 17, his birthday, at St. Rose Church in Belmar.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Lyden’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org.

Irene Filak
Irene Filak, 83, of Spring Lake and Sarasota, Fla., passed away on Sunday, April 28. Mrs. Filak was born in Jersey City and lived most of her life there before moving to Sarasota, Fla.

She was predeceased by her husband George 24 years ago. Surviving are her children, Gary of Virginia, George and Kasia of Pennsylvania and Susan and Billy Schulz of Manasquan; her sisters, Mary Kurt of Sarasota, Fla. and Jean Westervelt of Elizabeth and her grandchildren, Lisa, Brian, Nikolai, Peter, Yuri, Dana and Kory. Mrs. Filak was predeceased by her brothers Matty and Edward.

A memorial mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at St. Denis RC Church, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to VNA Hospice, 176 Riverside Ave., Red Bank 07701 or the Manasquan First Aid Squad, 65 Broad St, Manasquan 08736.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ocean County Cremation Service, Toms River.

Robert Craig Lindenmuth
Robert Craig Lindenmuth, 59, of Wall, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

Mr. Lindenmuth was born in Paterson and raised in Wayne, and had lived in Wall since 1985. He was a graduate of Wayne Hills High School and attended Montclair State College. He was a Vietnam Era veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, a volunteer Fireman in Wayne, and had worked with Wall Emergency Management. He was a retired Electronics Technician from the Army Research Laboratory at Fort Monmouth. He enjoyed photography, amateur radio and trains. Bob was a dear friend to many, and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Lindenmuth was predeceased by his parents, Josephine and Charles A. Lindenmuth, Sr., as well as by his brother, Charles A. Lindenmuth, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Cheryl, of Wall, as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Gordon Mandeville, of Colorado, and other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Mary J. Hazard
Spring Lake Heights resident Mary J. Hazard died Friday, May 15 surrounded by family members at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 91 years old.

Mary was born, raised, and spent her entire professional career in Elizabeth and Newark, where she worked for the America Fore Loyalty Group Agency, City Federal Savings and Loan Association, Fireman’s Insurance Company, and the Visiting Nurse and Health Services agency; in 1988, she retired, and followed her siblings who had moved to the Jersey Shore. Mary resettled in Spring Lake Heights, where she soon became a familiar face to the communicants of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Catholic churches. She also was past secretary of SCAMP, the Spring Lake Heights Chapter of AARP, and a local tenants association representing the Heights Manor Apartments.

Mary is predeceased by her sister, Genevieve Naffin, and brothers, Jim, Jack, and Walter Hazard.

She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews as well as numerous great nieces and nephews, many of whom reside at the Jersey Shore.

The O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township was in charge of arrangements. A funeral mass took place at St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake, with burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Wall Township.

Ines Mandry
Belmar resident Ines Mandry died Monday, May 18 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 83 years old.

Born in Puerto Rico, she came to the states in 2005. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Providence Church in Neptune. She enjoyed attending Jersey Shore Adult Day Care Center in Asbury Park.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rufino Castaing; two children, Cruz and Antonio Castaing; and one sister, Lydia Mandry.

Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Jaime and her husband, Damaso of Belmar, and Alma Garcia of Hartford, Conn.; four sons, Thomas Castaing and his wife, Ana of Florida, Carlos Castaing and his wife, Awilda of Elizabeth, Eligio Garcia and his wife, Edith of Puerto Rico, and Jaht Rivera and his wife, Marta of Newark; two brothers, Alejandro Mandry and Gonzalo Mandry; five sisters, Felicita Mandry, Manuela Alvarado, Gladys Ramos, Herminia Crespo, and Dominga Mandry; 28 loving grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D. Street, Belmar, with a funeral service at 8 p.m. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. followed by burial at Monmouth Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m.
