Francis “Frank” C. Stefurak
Palm Harbor, Fla. resident Francis “Frank” C. Stefurak, formerly of Brielle, died Monday, May 11 after an eight year battle with A.L.S. [Lou Gehrig’s Disease] at home surrounded by his family.

He was 77 years old.

He was born in Torrington, Conn. in 1932 and attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Conn., and Fordham University in Bronx, N.Y. Frank was an army medic during the Korean War and served as a member of the 82nd Airborne. He lived in Brielle for 30 years prior to moving to Palm Harbor in 2002. He was a former member of the Manasquan River Golf Club and the Manasquan River Yacht Club. He was a private investor on Wall Street for 50 years. He enjoyed traveling, reading, growing gladiolas, making wine, skiing, playing blackjack in the basement with the “gang, ” golfing with the “boys of summer, ” commuting, all sports, his beloved Yankees, but mostly he enjoyed his family.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia “Pat” Donohue Stefurak; his four children, Gregory of Rochester, Vt., Wayne and his wife, Mary Beth, of Warren, Michelle and her husband, Tommy, of Long Island, N.Y., and James and his wife, Nicole, of Orlando, Fla.; and his eight grandchildren, Emma, Alex, Jack, Patrick, Margo, Drew, Sydney and Trent.

Funeral services will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Clearwater, Fla. A party in celebration of his life will follow.

Memorial donations to Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 5771 Roosevelt Boulevard, Clearwater, FL 33764 would be greatly appreciated.

Robert A. Shotwell
Wilmington, N.C. resident Robert A. Shotwell, formerly of Brielle, died Saturday, May 16 at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove.

He was 98 years old.

Mr. Shotwell was born on February 17, 1911 in Rahway. He was a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club in Brielle for 21 years. He was also very instrumental in the building and forming of the Church of Brielle. In 1971, he retired from the First National City Bank of N.Y. [Citibank] after 42 years of employment.

Mr. Shotwell then moved to Vero Beach, Fla. with his devoted wife, Carolyn whom preceded him in death in 1999. In Vero Beach, he and his wife were members of The Community United Church of Christ, where he served as treasurer for over 10 years.

Surviving is one son, Robert N. Shotwell and wife, Barbara Ann of Allentown, Pa.; his daughter, Carole R. Axford of Wilmington, N.C.; his granddaughters, Victoria Morton and husband, Kell, Julieanne Mixtacki and her husband, Brian all of Allentown, Allyson Terry and husband, Doug of Wilmington, NC; and four great grandchildren, Brady, 9, Riley, 8, Josh, 5, and Wesley, 2.

The family would like to thank the aides and nurses who took care of our father with such love. We would like to send a special appreciation to Meredith Montgomery, RN at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove for treating Mr. Shotwell like a member of her own family.

At the request of the family, there will be no visitation or services for Mr. Shotwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., on Sunday, May 24, at the residence of his daughter, Carole Axford, 3503 Tall Pine Ct., Wilmington, N.C. 28409.

Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel Service, Wilmington, NC was in charge of arrangements.

Michael “Mike” McCabe
Manasquan resident Michael “Mike” McCabe died suddenly Saturday, May 16 at home.

He was 54 years old.

He was born in North Plainfield and raised in Toms River. He was a graduate of Toms River South High School. Mike was a crew chief for JCP&L, Belmar for 28 years. His passion in life was his drums. Mike started at the age of five playing cardboard boxes at first and progressed from there, playing in several bands including Walt’s Garage, Carousel, Dayz and Bacchus to name a few. He was a Beatles enthusiast always searching Ebay for Beatles collectables and drums. He loved spending time with his son Brad. They attended NASCAR races, car races at Wall Speedway and enjoyed watching the Giants. He will be missed by his big dog “Bennie.”

Mike was predeceased by his mother, Marion.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Mackin McCabe and his son, Brad of Manasquan; his father and his wife, Edmund and Betty McCabe of Jackson, a brother and sister-in-law, Edmund and Kim McCabe and their daughter, Gabrielle of South Jersey, and a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Lenny Monticello and their daughter, Tara of Florida.

Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan was in charge of arrangements. Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Margaret’s Church, Spring Lake with interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.

Jacqueline Reilly Maliff
Belmar resident Jacqueline Reilly Maliff died Friday, May 8 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 74 years old.

Before retiring, Jacqueline worked as a pharmacy technician for the Rite Aid and Lane Drug stores in Spring Lake Heights, Wall and Sea Girt. She was a member of the Wall High School Booster Association, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a communicant of St. Rose Church in Belmar.

Born in Jersey City, she lived there until 1967 when she became one of many who made the transition from Jersey City to the Jersey Shore. She was a graduate of Saint Joseph’s Grammar School and Saint Dominic’s Academy, both of Jersey City. An enthusiast of track and field and sports in general, Jackie loved to attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. Jackie was a gracious lady who loved her family and accepted life’s challenges with strength and dignity.

She is predeceased by her husband, Eugene; her parents, James and Rose Reilly; and her sister, Patricia Reilly.

She is survived by six children, James Maliff and his wife, Carol of Wall, Michael Maliff and his wife, Jacqueline of Brick, Thomas Maliff and his wife, Lori of Wall, Sheila Morrissey and her husband, Jim of West Windsor, Eileen Conway and her husband, Jimmy of Staten Island, and Patricia Maliff of Spring Lake Heights. Also surviving are twin brothers, Charles Reilly and his wife, Patricia of Colonia, and James Reilly and his wife Barbara of Manahawkin, as well as 11 grandchildren, Eamonn, Terrence, Corey, Kimi, Connor, Kassandra, Kayla, James, Ronan, Reilly and Mary, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Holy Innocents Roman Catholic Church, Neptune, with interment at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Saint Francis Hospital, 601 Hamilton Avenue, Trenton, 08629 would be greatly appreciated.

Donald T. Auge
Point Pleasant resident Donald T. Auge, formerly of Manasquan and Wall Township, died Friday, May 15 at the Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 88 years old.

Born in Rahway, he lived in Manasquan and Wall Township before moving to Point Pleasant 35 years ago.

Mr. Auge was a marine electrician for Johnson Brothers in Point Pleasant for over 20 years, before retiring in 1983. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, and was a member of the VFW in Point Pleasant Beach.

Mr. Auge is survived by his wife, Joan [nee Killoch]; his daughter, Karen Crane and her husband, Matthew, of Hopkinton, Mass.; his sister, Jean Cartwright of Clark; a granddaughter, Eva; his niece, Susan Mattes; and his nephew, Thomas Cartwright. Donald is also survived by his good friend, Molly.

The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan was in charge of arrangements. A memorial service was held at the home, and cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan’s “By Faith We Build Fund, ” would be appreciated.

Judge Michael D. Farren
Spring Lake resident Judge Michael D. Farren died Wednesday, May 13.

He was 69 years old.

Born to Gertrude and G. Arthur Farren, Michael spent his entire life as a resident of the Jersey Shore growing up with his siblings, G. Arthur, Jr., Clifford, Patricia Heine and Mary McGreevey. He attended St. Catharine’s Elementary School [Spring Lake] and St. Rose High School [Belmar] before leaving for St. Bonaventure University [Olean, N.Y.] where he earned his BBA in Business Administration in 1961. Michael then honorably served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1961-1963. Upon his discharge, he attended Seton Hall University Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1967. He then joined a law firm before becoming an assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor. He was in private practice from 1973 until 1984, when he was appointed to the bench as a Judge of the Superior Court of the State of New Jersey until his retirement in 2004. Judge Farren was a member of New Jersey Bar Association, Monmouth County Bar Association, Affiliated Republican Club of Monmouth County, and the Spring Lake-Brielle Rotary Club.

Michael enjoyed walking the Spring Lake boardwalk with friends, playing golf, reading many newspapers, traveling, especially to Florida, cheering for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and being surrounded by his family.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, Gertrude and G. Arthur, and his brothers, G. Arthur, Jr. and Clifford.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth [Dwyer]; and daughters Mary and husband Shawn Boehmcke [Spring Lake Heights], Catherine and her husband, John Gambino [Duxbury, Mass.], Margaret and her husband, Scott Cockerell [Newhall, Calif.], and Patricia and her husband, Thomas Roach [Needham, Mass.]. He also leaves seven wonderful grandchildren: Samantha, Nolan, Kristen, Aidan, Siobhan, Bridget, and Michael.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township, was in charge of arrangements. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, with burial at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center, Monmouth Medical Center, 300 2nd Avenue, Long Branch, 07740.

Anna Marion Patterson [nee Blessing]
Spring Lake resident Anna Marie Patterson, nee Blessing, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 13 at home.

She was 94 years old.

Mrs. Patterson was born in Lebanon, Pa. She was a graduate of Reading Pennsylvania High School, class of 1933. While in high school, she was on the varsity basketball team. She was a model for Wanamakers Department Store in Philadelphia, and the vice-president of the Junior Women’s Club of Wyomissing, Pa. Mrs. Patterson was a founding member of Family and Children’s Service of Monmouth County and volunteered at Point Pleasant Hospital. She enjoyed knitting and needlepoint, sports, was an avid reader and an excellent bridge player. She had a great love of music, especially opera and musicals. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Manasquan, and St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Spring Lake.

She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Gilbert [Gib] Patterson, in 1997, and her brother Robert Blessing of Reading, Pa.

Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara Kirkpatrick of Chester, Conn., and Joan and Chris Clark, Boulder, Col.; one son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert Wayne and Carol Patterson of Spring Lake; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Ian Clark of Boulder, Wayne Stuart and Kerry Patterson of Spring Lake, Amanda A. Patterson of Long Branch, Cynthia and Bryan Keeshen of Long Branch, Emily and Jim Dlugasch of Reston, Va., Scott and Heather Kirkpatrick of Wellesley, Mass., and Gavin and Erin Kirkpatrick of Lakeview, Mass.; and eight great-grandchildren, Tucker and Bradley Kirkpatrick, Thatcher and Stella Kirkpatrick, Ben and John Patterson, Anna Dlugasch and Sarah Keeshen.

Visitation was held at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Spring Lake, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

Mrs. Patterson was well loved and will be greatly missed. Her legacy is one of love, hard work and enduring friendship.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Spring Lake.

Michael D. Farren
Judge Michael D. Farren, 69, of Spring Lake, entered into eternal rest on May 13, 2009.
