Patrick J. Ryan Sr.
Patrick J. Ryan Sr., 74, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Sept. 29. He was born in Summit on March 25, 1939 and raised his family for 37 years in Chatham Township before retiring to Point Pleasant in 2003.
Patrick was a proud, 56-year member of Steamfitters Local Union No. 475. He was extremely family oriented and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Patrick is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Catherine R. Ryan and their four children, Patrick J. Ryan, Jr. and his late wife Helen, Timothy J. Ryan and his late wife Sharon, Edward F. Ryan and his wife Diane, and Margaret R. Hostutler and her husband Scott. Also surviving are eight brothers and sisters, Catherine Keating and husband Robert, Elizabeth Kane and husband Ronald, Mary Jupin and husband John, Edward Ryan and wife Barbara, James Ryan and wife Jane, Margaret Ryan, Nancy Suchniak and husband Joseph, and Daniel Ryan and wife Karen. He was a loving and devoted grandfather to Eddie, Julie, Matthew, Brianne, Ryan, Jenna, Brielle, and Chris.
Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 2 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. On Thursday, Oct. 3, a Liturgy was celebrated at the Church of Saint Martha, Point Pleasant, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
Freida L. Carlson
Freida L. Carlson, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 29 at home, after a short illness surrounded and comforted by family and friends and her precious dog Mini. Freida was born in 1945 near Salzburg, Austria. After a stay at the Red Cross refugee camp in Germany, her family was sponsored by a local farmer to come to America to work. Five year old Freida, with her brother, William, her sister, Dina [Treat], and her mother and stepfather, came through Ellis Island. Her family was soon able to afford a home of their own and moved to Howell where Freida lived until she married
Carl C. Carlson, Jr. of Freehold in 1962.
Freida and Carl bore two children, Christine Carlson Spencer of Brick and Carl Carlson, III of Boston, and one granddaughter, Samantha Paige Spencer of Delray Beach, Fla.
Freida and Carl lived many years in Lakewood before moving to Point Pleasant 26 years ago. The Carlsons split their time together between Point Pleasant and Marathon, Florida Keys, where they are members of the Sombrero Country Club and spent all fishable days anchored on the reefs of the Keys catching yellowtails and grouper. Freida loved to cook her catch and share with anyone willing to accept her kindness. Freida was an outstanding cook and an awesome friend. She was fiercely loyal and extremely generous.
Freida’s last wishes are being honored with a memorial at their home on Saturday, Oct. 5. Anyone wishing to stop by and remember Freida with stories and memories is encouraged to attend. Guests will be received from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Carlson home, 2318 Oriole Way, Point Pleasant, with an informal Eulogy at 5 p.m. For details or questions, call 732-757-2312.
Donald P. Gallagher
Donald P. Gallagher, 83, of Wall passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
Mr. Gallagher was self-employed for many years before retiring in 1995. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Gallagher was a graduate of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark and attended The University of Delaware.
He was a communicant of St. Rose Roman Catholic Church in Belmar and was a member of The Knights of Columbus Council #335 in Long Branch, Ancient Order Hibernians Div. 32 in Belmar, The Friendly Sons of Shillelagh also in Belmar and The Pride of Wall.
Born and raised in Elizabeth, he lived in Neptune, Elberon and Hilton Head, S.C. before moving to Wall 12 years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Helen Gallagher, by his son Kevin Donald Gallagher and son-in-law Gary Heid.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years Margaret [Sheeran] Gallagher; son Brian and his wife Ellen of Howell; daughter Kathleen Heid of Elberon; daughter-in-law Catherine Gallagher of Wall; grandchildren Dennis Heid and Mary Cate Gallagher; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated on Friday 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Roman Catholic Church in Belmar.
A Mausoleum inurnment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Rosaria “Sadie” Bonacci
Rosaria “Sadie” Bonacci, 90, of Wall passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Sunrise Assisted Living at Wall. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bonacci loved gardening and cooking. One of her greatest joys in her life was to meet her first great grandchild who was recently born.
Born in North Bergen, she lived in South River before moving to Wall in 2009.
Mrs. Bonacci was preceded in death by her loving husband Bruno Bonacci in 2010.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Diane Bonacci of Sea Girt; her brother Joseph Montana of Denver, Colo.; her sister Jeannie LaRocca of Bronxville, N.Y.; two grandchildren and their spouses William and Meghan Bonacci and Alyssa and Andrew Yerike; and her cherished great granddaughter Sawyer Mae Yerike.
Visitation and funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Burial
will be held at Holy Cross Burial
Park in East Brunswick.

John J. Mangini
John J. Mangini, 84, of Wall Township passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 24, surrounded by his loving family at Sunnyside Manor, Wall.
John was born in New York City to Clori Campomenosi and John Joseph Mangini on Sept. 20, 1929. He resided in Leonia, Fort Lee and Oradell New Jersey before moving to the Jersey Shore 54 years ago.
John was a graduate of Fort Lee High School in 1947 and went on to Muhlenberg College, class of 1951. He earned his law degree from Fordham School of Law in 1954. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Korea as a defense attorney for the Judge Advocate General Courts; it was there that he won his first case as a defense attorney. After the war, John was commissioned to Assistant U.S. Attorney under Chester A. Weidenburner.
In 1958 John married
Patricia Loh Cosgrove, daughter of Amelia Loh and Frederick Otto Cosgrove, former owners of the Warren Hotel Spring Lake. In 1961, John became a partner of Campbell Mangini Foley and Lee in Asbury Park. In the early 70s John started his own firm Mangini Gilroy and Cramer in Wall Township. He served as township attorney for Wall and Howell townships for many years.
In his later years, John practiced as John Jay Mangini PC in Brielle, retiring in 2005 after 51 years of service.
John was a founding father of the Allaire State Bank, Wall, which was established in 1973. As counsel for the bank he was instrumental in the mergers of National Community Bank and then Bank of New York. John served as a board member at all three institutions. He also served on the board of directors for Brick Hospital and Point Pleasant Hospital and was involved with the formation of The Brick Hospital Foundation. John was a member of the Wall Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club of Wall, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the Wall Knights of Columbus and served as vice president of the Republican Club of Wall.
An avid golfer, John was a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club from 1973 to present. He served as president from 1982 to 1983. John was a partner of a well-known golf group called "Foursome-Forever” with Carl Menk, Francis X. O’Connor and J. Howard Carter and attended foursomes at Augusta National for many years. He was also a member of the Manasquan River Yacht Club where he served as council and the Willoughby Golf Club in Stuart, Fla.
John was a parishioner of St. Catharine's Church in Spring Lake.
His hobbies included golf, skiing, tennis, football, fishing, cooking, gardening, building and designing.
He is predeceased by his parents Clori C. Mangini and John Joseph Mangini and is survived by his children Lisa P. Mangini of Wethersfield, Vt., Pamela M. Schaefer and partner Cheryl Myers of Milford, Del., John Jay Mangini Jr. and partner Paula Egan of Pt. Pleasant, Linda M. Padula of Manasquan, Priscilla Mangini Confrey and husband Matthew B. Confrey of Spring Lake.
Also surviving are his six grandchildren, John Jay Mangini III, Julia Mangini, Emily and Clara Padula, Olivia and Amelia Confrey, his sister Benita Jones of Albuquerque, N.M. and former spouse Patricia C Mangini of Spring Lake.
He is also survived by two nieces, two nephews and many other family members and friends.
Arrangements were handled by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

John Jeremiah Engle
John Jeremiah Engle, 81, of the Four Seasons community, Wall, died recently at his home.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y., John resided for many years in Matawan before moving here in 1998. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was a National Accounts Service Manager for AT&T;, retiring in 1989 after 33 years of service.
John was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Lucille Engle, who passed away in 2009, and his parents, Raymond and Ida Gunther Engle.
He is survived by his son, John R. Engle, Manasquan.
Friends are invited to call at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 10-11 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Interment
will follow in St. Catharine cemetery Mausoleum, Sea Girt.
Theresa F. Berardi
Theresa F. Berardi, 101, of Wall, died on Monday, Sept. 30, at home surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Hoboken, Theresa lived in North Bergen before moving to Manasquan.
She was a parishioner of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.
Theresa was predeceased by her beloved husband James F. Berardi in 1987, two brothers Anthony Montecalvo and Dominic Montecalvo and sister Grace Montecalvo.
Surviving are her loving children: Michelina Wages and her husband Arthur of New Braunfels, Texas, Marie Mezza and her husband Alfred of Wayne, James M. Berardi and his wife Estelle of Bulverde, Texas, Raymond N. Berardi and his wife Dolores of Wall.
She also leaves seven grandchildren: Alfred Jr., Anthony, Theresa, James Michael, Monique, Catherine and Nicholas and four great grandchildren: Joseph, Christopher, Nicholas and Baylen, and nieces, nephews and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be offered Thursday, Oct. 3, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church, Manasquan. Entombment will follow in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.
Leatrice Plum
Leatrice “Lea” Plum, 90, of Sea Girt, died on Sept. 21, after a short illness.
Lea was born born on June 21, 1923 in Orange, the daughter of Fred and Nelle Wildauer.
She married
Robert “Bob” Plum Jr. in 1949. They raised their family in Florham Park and South Orange until Bob retired and they moved to Sea Girt full time in the early 1990s where they enjoyed spending summer days at the beach until Bob’s passing in 2010.
Lea was an assistant vice president at Orange Savings & Loan where she worked for more than 20 years. She enjoyed her family and friends playing tennis and golf, especially during annual family trips to Bermuda.
Lea was a fun loving, generous and caring wife, mother and friend. She opened up her heart and her home to those she loved and those who needed her love.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Plum [Charles] of Sarasota Fla., her son, Robert [Suzanne] of Alexandria, Va., her granddaughter Alexandra Margetta of Metairie, La., her brother Fred Wildauer of West Chester, Pa. and more than a dozen nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 18 at 9:30 a.m. Lea will be interred with Bob in Arlington National cemetery in Virginia at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Jersey Shore Cremation Service, Manasquan.
