Helen O. Sabarese
Juno Beach, Fla. resident Helen O. Sabarese, formerly of Lavallette, died Tuesday, April 7.

She was 91 years old.

Helen graduated from Clifton High School and the Passaic General Hospital School of Nursing. She was an active member of the Passaic County Medical Society Auxiliary; the Passaic General Hospital Women’s Auxiliary; belonged to the Passaic Orphanage Committee and the Senior Citizens of Lavallette.

Helen was a resident of the Clifton/Passaic area most of her life before moving to Juno Beach, Fla. in 1992 and a resident in Lavallette for over 60 years.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Theodore C. Sabarese; and brother, Leonard A. Schneider.

Helen was the beloved mother of Theodore M., of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Lois Fruhbeis of, Juno Beach, Fla.; Richard, of Hobe Sound, Fla.; Margo Colasanti, of Flat Rock, N.C.; and Brenda Mani, of Juno Beach, Fla. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was the beloved sister of Bruce Schneider of Interlaken, N.Y.

The Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, handled the arrangements. Burial took palce at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

The family wishes to thank and acknowledge the compassionate care over the years by the entire staff of the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center; most especially Dr. Andrew Moffit, Dr. Richard Price and Dr. Robert Anderson.

Janet Elizabeth Beaton
Point Pleasant resident Janet Elizabeth Beaton died Saturday, April 11 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 77 years old.

She was born in Neptune and was a lifetime resident of Bay Head and Point Pleasant area.

Mrs. Beaton was a member of the Meteconk River Yacht Club since 1965. Her favorite pastime was sailing and racing boats with her husband. She was also an avid reader and also loved the beach.

Mrs. Beaton was predeceased by her daughter, Catherine Hartwyk, in 2008; and her sister, Priscilla Beaton, in 2007.

She is survived by her husband, Edward [Ted] Beaton; her son and daughter-in law, Mark and Sharpe, of Point Pleasant Beach; two daughters, Sandy Frank and her husband, Dickie, of Calabash, N.C. and Debby Matthews and her husband, Steve, of Beaufort, N.C.; her son-in-law, Doug Hartwyk, of Point Pleasant; five grandchildren, Amy, Kate, Sarah, Brian and Rachel and her great-grandson, Charlie. She is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

The Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Interment took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St, Suite 301, Robbinsville, 08691.

Joseph G. “Chip” Quinn
Point Pleasant resident Joseph G. “Chip” Quinn died Thursday, April 9 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 58 years old.

He was co-owner of Preferred Craftsmen, Point Pleasant, for 25 years and was a well-respected member of the community.

He was born in New Jersey and had lived in Keyport prior to moving to Point Pleasant 27 years ago.

Joseph loved to race cars. He had a 2000 Camaro which he raced at Atco Speedway in New Egypt. He had a great sense of humor, a passion for life, and above all else, a big heart.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy [Zingler] Quinn; a stepdaughter, Amie Hirtes and her fiance, Larry Bentley, of North Plainfield; a stepson, Kurt Hirtes, of Brick; a sister, Dolores Rayman, of Lakewood; two grandchildren, Cristofer and James Hirtes; a niece, Jean Sninski and her husband, Geno, of Brick and their children Lisa, Geno and Liane; many nieces and cousins; and his business partner, Mark Wasserbach and his son, Timothy.

The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements.

Richard G. Smith
Point Pleasant resident Richard G. Smith died Sunday, April 12, in Mount Sinai Medical Center.

He was 85 years old.

He was born and raised in Maplewood.

During World War II, Richard served as a Private First Class in the First Ranger Battalion of the U.S. Army, participating in the battles of Anzio and Di Cisterna. He then volunteered for the first Special Forces unit and fought in Norway. Richard received a letter of gratitude from the King of Norway for his service.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Richard returned home and married his beloved wife of 59 years, Frances.

He lived in Roselle and supported his family by working as an oil burner repairman for Kingston, Falk, and Weimar in Union.

Richard retired in 1987 and moved to Point Pleasant, where he was a devoted caretaker to his wife and a member of the Old Guard.

He was predeceased by his wife, Frances.

Surviving are his sisters Margie Burke, of Mississippi and Shirley Johnson, of Florida; his daughter Sherry and son-in-law Patrick Dugan, of Toms River; and a granddaughter, Katie Dugan, of Maryland.

A religious service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 State Highway 88, Brick at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 17, with burial to follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association and prayers for Richard.

Mamie Kessler
Brick resident Mamie A. [nee Dankosky] Kessler, formerly of Wall, died on Monday, June 18, at Burnt Tavern Nursing and Rehab Center, Brick.

She was 90 years old.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was raised in Freehold, and lived in Allenwood, for 61 years, before moving to Brick, in 2002.

She was a graduate of Freehold High School. She was a parishioner of St. Mark’s R.C. Church, in Sea Girt. She was a member of Pride of Wall Senior Group, The Wall Republican Club and was the treasurer of the South Wall Fire Company Women’s Auxiliary for more than 25 years. She boasted and was proud to be a charter member of the Women’s Auxiliary from the beginning.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Kessler Jr., in 1986; by her son, Robert R. Kessler and her son-in-law, James Leddy.

She is survived by a daughter, Eileen G. Leddy, of Brick; three grandchildren, Teresa, Brian and Denise; three great-grandchildren, Megan, Katherine and Nathan; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Davis.

A funeral Mass will be held today at 9:30 a.m., at St. Martha’s R.C. Church, in Point Pleasant.

Burial will follow at St. Rose Of Lima Cemetery, in Freehold.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of the arrangements.

Jessica Collinson
Wall resident Jessica Lauren Collinson passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 17, at home.

She was 27 years old.

She was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend.

Jessica was born in Point Pleasant and raised in Wall Township. She was a graduate of Wall High School and attended West Chester University, Pa.; Monmouth University; and Stuart School of Business.

She loved music, writing, animals and the beach.

She was predeceased by her aunt, Joyce Kneipp; her maternal great-grandmother, Elsie Marx; and her paternal grandmother, Helen Taft.

Jessica is survived by her loving parents, William and Janice Collinson; her sister, Erin Collinson; her maternal grandparents, Robert and Elsie Kneipp; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Mary H. Heffernan
Sea Girt resident Mary H. Heffernan died Monday, June 11, in her home.

She was 83 years old.

She was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt, and a member of its Altar Rosary Society.

Mary was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening. She was an avid reader and loved to walk and travel. She was a member of the Upper Montclair and Sea Girt women’s clubs and was past president of both clubs, as well as a member of the Sea Girt Holly Club.

Mary was born and raised in West Orange and lived in Montclair, before moving to Sea Girt 30 years ago.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Joseph T. Heffernan, in 2003.

She is survived by three nephews and their wives, John and Kathy Makar of Tampa, Fla.; Stephen and Nancy Makar of Bridgewater; and Frank and Victoria Hawrylak of New York City; five nieces and their husbands, Brynne and Lee Aronson of Ivyland, Pa.; Theodora Makar of Spring Lake Heights; Karym and Thomas Hoens of Westfield; Drue and Robert Cox of Seattle; and Megan and David Dimmock of Baltimore; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Orender Family Home for Funerals, Wall, handled the arrangements. Interment took place at Bloomfield Cemetery, Bloomfield.
