Jane C. Dangler Rowland
Wall Township resident Jane C. Dangler Rowland died Saturday, May 9 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune with her family by her side.

She was 75 years old.

She was a graduate of the Ann May School of Nursing. She had been employed by the Wall Board of Education for 38 years. She had worked with Special Olympics and worked with special education children for a number of years. She was also an avid bowler.

Jane was predeceased by two sons, Lance and Edward J. Rowland Jr., and one grandson Raymond.

Surviving are her husband Edward; her brothers, Edward Dangler of Florida and Jack Dangler of Brick; her three sons, Mark and wife, Terry of Kansas, James and his wife, Missy of Wall, and Kevin and his wife, Trish of Brick; a daughter, Lorie Langridge and fiancé, Joe; a grandson, John and his wife Arlene of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Lauren Courtney, Aaron, Shaena, Jessie, Tippi-Marie and Jessica; and a great-granddaughter Emily Rowland.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the New Jersey Former Troopers Association [NJFTA], 1675 Whitehorse-Mercerville Road, Suite 103, Hamilton, 08619-3824.

Lucille M. Cardace
Brielle resident Lucille M. Cardace died Monday, May 11 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with her family by her side.

She was 70 years old.

Lucille was born and raised in Nanticoke, Pa. She lived in North Jersey most of her life and moved to Brielle in 1993. Lucille was a graduate of The Juilliard School, New York City. Upon her graduation, she toured the country as a world famous Radio City Rockette. Lucille owned and operated a dance school in Scotch Plains.

She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan and very active member in the church choir and as a lecture. Lucille was also very active with the Jersey Shore Chapter of “Mended Hearts.” She worked at Bank of America, Wall, for several years. Lucille loved to spend time at the beach. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her four boys and their families and was very proud of her nine grandchildren.

Lucille is survived by her four sons and four daughters-in-law, Anthony and Karla Cardace of Jackson, Louis and Joy Cardace of Freehold, Glen and Kim Cardace of Brick, and Victor and Carrie Cardace of Clinton. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Hannah, Maggie, Nicholas, Christopher, Gianna, Dominick, Connor, Brian, and Kelly. Lucille is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dominick and Lynne Cardace of Chester, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan was in charge of arrangements. A mass of Christian burial will be held today at 9:30 am at St. Margaret’s Church, Ludlow Street and 3rd Avenue, Spring Lake. Interment will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Township.

Florence Costigan Murday
Avon-by-the-Sea resident Florence Costigan Murday died peacefully on Tuesday, May 12 at her home.

She was 95 years old.

Mrs. Murday enjoyed working as a sales woman for many years at Steinbach in Asbury Park and also at the Avon Beach Front. She was a member of the Avon Leisure Citizens and a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church in Avon.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa. and lived in Jersey City and Belmar before moving to Avon-by-the-Sea 67 years ago.

Her greatest joy came from being with and caring for her family. She will be especially remembered for her gentleness, love, and kindness. She was a blessing to all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1989 and her son John in 1979.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Erik Bach of Middletown; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Murday of Wall; her sister, Josephine Landis of Manasquan; and sisters-in-law, Maria Costigan of Latham, N.Y. and Beatrice Murday of Avon. She also leaves her four grandchildren, Kevin Murday, Larina Vuksanic, Maria Murday, Erik J. Bach, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visiting will be today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 am at St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church in Avon. Burial will be at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of her name to either the Avon First Aid 301 Main St., Avon, 07717, or to the Hospice of New Jersey, 40 Bey Lea Road., Suite A 202, Toms River, 08753.

Amy Nicole Hauck
Ventnor resident Amy Nicole Hauck, formerly of Brielle, was tragically taken from this life on Friday, May 8.

She was 17 years old.

Born June 3, 1991, she grew up in Brielle until moving to Ventnor three years ago. Beautiful Amy was a senior at Atlantic City High School and was to graduate on June 25, 2009. Amy was set to attend college and fulfill her dream of becoming a holistic veterinarian.

Amy was an angel on earth who touched the lives of so many in her short time here. Now she is an angel in heaven. Her beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor warmed the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to meet her. She had a huge heart - she loved life, her family, and friends to an unmatchable extent. She also had a huge love of animals, especially her cat Oliver and dog Otto, and her art and music, from classical to metal.

Amy is co-owner of the Sea King Party Boat in Marathon, Fla., along with her daddy Bill Hauck, who she loved to fish with, as well as ride daddy’s Harley.

Amy was her mom’s little angel, best friend, and soul mate. She loved nothing more than hanging out with her mom, laughing, dancing, and singing off key. Family holidays with her aunts and cousins meant the world to her.

Amy planned to spend the summer in Thailand with her good friend Sunny.

Amy was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Nancy and Patrick Rauso of Sea Girt; her aunt, Lyn Wilson; her uncle, Craig Smith; and her cousin, Tyson Smith.

Amy will be so sadly missed, but never forgotten by her loving parents, Christine Marsella and Bill Hauck; her sisters, Samantha Hauck and Falyn Marsella; her brothers, Frankie and James Marsella; her step-father, Frank Marsella; paternal grandparents, William and Audrey Hauck of Naples, Fla.; aunts and uncles Catherine and John Bannigan, Patti and Kenneth Wallis, Donna and Tom Wilson, Rand Wilson, Carole Smith, Dwayne and Sharon Hauck, and Ed and Dawn Wilczewski; cousins Megan, Jessica, and Katelyn Bannigan, Lauren and Patrick Wilson, Brooke Smith-Moore and Colby, Lindsay, Meredith, and Alaire Hauck, Brianne, Lauren, and Krista Wilczewski; dear friend and confidant Tracy Arwood; and beloved pets, Oliver and Otto.

Amy was a cheerful girl and loved everything colorful - the family requests that those attending the services wear something colorful as we celebrate, rather than mourn, Amy’s short life.

A memorial service was held at Blessed Sacrament Church, Margate. Services will be held today at the Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A mass will be held tomorrow at Saint Margaret’s Church, Ludlow Street and 3rd Avenue, Spring Lake, at 9:30 a.m.

Donations can be made in Amy’s name to the Humane Society of Ocean City, P.O. Box 1254, Ocean City, 08226.

Wilbur T. “Bill” Herzig
Port St. Lucie, Fla. resident Wilbur T. “Bill” Herzig, with family in Brielle, died Wednesday, April 22 in Harbor Place Assisted Living Facility, Port St. Lucie.

He was 90 years old.

He was born in Newark. He was a longtime resident of Port St. Lucie. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Bill was a skilled cabinet maker and restored several old houses in Manasquan, Brielle, and Florida. He owned Wilbur T. Herzig Cabinetry in West Caldwell. He also worked as an insurance agent.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 37 years, Arlene “Scotty” B. Herzig.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Roland and her husband, John of Venice, Fla.; three grandchildren, John R. Roland, Jr., of Brielle, Betsy J. Biarsky of Lithia, Fla., and Steven M. Roland of Ruskin, Fla.; and seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Campbell of Lakeland, Fla., Brielle Campbell of Lakeland, Shane Roland, Meghan Roland, Taylor Roland, and Jamie Roland, all of Brielle, and Steven M. Roland, Jr. of Ruskin, Fla.

There is no services at his request. Arrangements were entrusted to Aycock Funeral Home, Jensen Beach, Fla.

George Hartt Bower Jr.
Wall Township resident George Hartt Bower Jr. died Sunday, May 10 at the Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick Hospital from complications of myelodisplasia.

He was 88 years old.

Born in Winthrop, Mass., he had lived in Manasquan for four years before moving to Wall in 1953. The only child of George and Gertrude Pickering Bower, he grew up in Stoneham, Mass. and graduated from Stoneham High School. He then went on to Massachusetts State College [now UMass at Amherst]. His college career was interrupted by World War II. He then enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and became a lead bombardier with the 8th Air Force, 306th Bomb Group flying B-17 Bombers over Europe. He received the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters.

After the war, he returned to college to complete his education and received his B.S. degree. He was in the first class to graduate from UMass in 1947. While in college, he earned letters in football, winter track, spring track and baseball. He belonged to Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was elected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities, was treasurer of the Student Senate and belonged to Adelphia [Men’s Honorary Society].

He began his teaching career in Hillsboro, N.H., teaching math and science and coaching cross country, basketball and head baseball coach. His baseball team won the state championship.

George moved to Manasquan and taught science and math at Manasquan High School. He later taught only math and became the department chairman for many years. He coached freshman football, track, and golf, where he had many successful athletes and an Olympian, Barbara Friedrich. He taught 36 years, from 1949 to 1985.

In his retirement years, he played tennis and golf regularly, traveled to many areas of the world, did carpentry, got involved with computers and enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their many endeavors.

George will be remembered for his quick wit, compassion, loyalty, daring, being a true Boston Red Sox fan and a great supporter of Manasquan High School and UMass at Amherst. Above all was his love for his family and his dog, Abbey.

Surviving is his devoted wife of 60 years Phyllis Brunner Bower; his beloved children and their spouses, Rick and Jeni of Colorado Springs, Col., Bob and Terri of Moorestown, Nancy and AI Krol of Howell, Doug and Lynda of Wall and Jim and Kathy of Farmingdale; his 13 grandchildren, Jaime Bower and fiancé Erik Fretheim, James and Lauren Bower, Lt. Rob Bower USN and his fiancé Susan Rhea, Lauren Bower, Courtney and her brother, Michael Krol, Jodi and Cole Maccioli, Jeff, Steven, Kristin, Josh, Katie, and Jason Bower; and his five great-grandchildren Cayden, Layla, Hailey, Sophia, and Braden.

The O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Manasquan High School Scholarship Fund, 167 Broad Street, Manasquan, 08736.

Doris Ann Borton
Spring Lake resident Doris Ann Borton died peacefully on Thursday, May 7 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 77 years old.

Born in Passaic, Doris grew up in Lyndhurst and later lived in Rutherford. A talented artist who studied at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, she worked as a commercial illustrator for Bergdorf Goodman and as an executive at Lord and Taylor. Later in life, she painted many fine watercolors of the woods, lakes, and beaches of the Jersey Shore, and was a supporter of the Nature Conservancy’s efforts to preserve open spaces. She loved animals and owned several cherished dogs over the course of her life. She enjoyed feeding the birds and watching the rabbits play in the yard, and spent many hours in her garden. She also learned to take close-up photographs of flowers and insects. She was a particular fan of ladybugs.

In the company of her husband, Doris traveled widely throughout the United States and Europe, seeing England, France, Italy, Greece and Switzerland. The couple honeymooned in the Yucatan jungle, visiting the Chichen-Itza pyramids. They loved the rugged beauty of Hawaii and the mountains of Vermont. Doris was a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club, the Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club, and the Spring Lake Garden Club, and a longtime supporter of the American Ballet Theatre. An avid reader, she enjoyed books on ancient history and archaeology, mystery novels, and historical novels, especially Mika Waltari’s The Egyptian, which contributed to her lasting fascination with ancient Egypt. She was actively involved in the Woman’s Club of Rutherford and the Woman’s Club of Manasquan, and created many craft items for the Manasquan club’s annual fair. She and her husband designed their Spring Lake house, bringing in an architect only after Doris sketched layouts of their future home. They spent many happy years there, enjoying the sea breezes and the ocean views.

Doris leaves behind her husband of 49 years, Douglas C. Borton, and a son, Douglas, of Spring Lake Heights. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and friend.

The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of arrangements.
