Lillian Heuer
Punta Gorda, Fla. resident Lillian Haiko Heuer died on Monday, June 4, at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, in Punta Gorda, Fla. She leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall.

She was 85 years old.

Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Mountainside for 20 years, before moving to Forked River. Mrs. Heuer moved to Punta Gorda Isles, Fla., in 1992.

Mrs. Heuer worked with her husband at Echo Setting Corporation, in Union, and was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother.

She was a member of the Deborah Foundation and the Forked River Tuna Club Ladies Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband, Erving Heuer; her son, Robert Heuer; and her sister, Matilda Michalko.

She is survived by her son, Brian Heuer and his wife, Deborah, of Wall; her daughter, Gayle Camarda and her husband, Renato, of Fanwood; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Heuer, of New York, N.Y.

She also leaves eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her niece, Sharon Picon.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of the arrangements.

Interment was held at Hollywood Cemetery, Union.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation Browns Mills, 08015.

Rev. Robert Connors
Avon resident Rev. Robert A. Connors died on Thursday, June 7, after a courageous battle with multiple cancers.

Father Connors was born in Newark on December 30, 1928, and spent his early years in Nutley and South Orange.

He graduated from Seton Hall Prep in 1946 and from Seton Hall College, in 1950. He attended the Maryknoll Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pa., and Immaculate Conception Seminary in Darlington.

He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest in Newark’s Sacred Heart Cathedral by Archbishop Thomas Boland, on June 4, 1955.

Father Connors was first assigned to Our Lady of the Lake Parish, in Verona. Subsequent assignments included St. Anne’s, in Jersey City, and Immaculate Heart of Mary, in Scotch Plains. In addition, he pursued graduate studies in liturgy and parish management.

In 1978, Archbishop Peter Gerety appointed Father Connors pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, in Oakland, where he served until his retirement as Pastor Emeritus, in 1998. During his years as pastor, he was noted for his excellent homilies and for bringing a warm communal atmosphere to the celebration of Mass and the sacraments. He was a special favorite of the parish children and youth. The community room in Our Lady of Perpetual Help, is named in his honor.

A summer visitor to the Jersey shore since his boyhood days, Father Connors spent his later years at his home in Avon. He continued his priestly ministry through service in such Monmouth County parishes at St. Mark’s in Sea Girt, Holy Innocents in Neptune, St. Rose in Belmar, St. Elizabeth’s in Avon and Ascension in Bradley Beach, where he served as temporary administrator and celebrated his 50th anniversary in 2005.

A long time lover of Classical music, Father Connors frequently attended operas at the Metropolitan and other venues. Tosca and Turandot were among his favorites. He was well-known for his tales, his sense of humor and his love of family and friends.

Father Connors was predeceased by his parents, Jean Michie Connors and Richard J. Connors Jr.; his brother-in-law, John Linehan; his niece, Marianne Birle; and his special nephew, Robert L. Connors.

From his parents, he drew his special devotion to the Little Flower of Jesus, St. Teresa, of Liseaux.

He is survived by his sister, Eileen C. Linehan; his brother and sister-in-law, Richard J. III and Jane C. Connors, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and a legion of friends.

Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of arrangements.

Interment was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 806, Neptune, 07753, would be appreciated.

Joseph A. Costanzo
Spring Lake resident Joseph A. Costanzo passes away on Sunday, June 10.

He was 74 years old.

He was born in Sferracavallo, Sicily and lived in Manhattan and New City, N.Y., before coming to Spring Lake 15 years ago.

Mr. Costanzo was the proprietor of Costanzo Seafood in Paterson. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in New City, N.Y. and was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, in Spring Lake.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Joseph A. Costanzo.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Peg O’Sullivan Costanzo; his sons, Peter, of Garfield, and Dan and Lisa, of Lincroft; his daughters, Shannon Costanzo, of Spring Lake, Helen Costanzo and Elizabeth Econom of Holbrook, Md., and Victoria and Tom Foley, of Colts Neck.

He also leaves seven grandchildren, Danielle, Toni Ann, Kristen and Joseph D. Costanzo, Kate, Colleen and Kerry Foley. Also surviving, is a sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Jack Egan of Hawley, Pa.

A Mass will be held today, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake.

Committal will be private.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, is in charge of the arrangements.

Catherine “Kay” Mary Gilmartin Mueller
Lavallette resident Catherine “Kay” Mary Gilmartin Mueller died Tuesday, Nove. 18 at Holifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.

She was 89 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she had summered in Lavallette since 1957 and became a permanent resident in 1984.

Kay was the executive administrative assistant with Catholic Community Services, Mental Health Division, in Union City for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was elected Employee of the Year, Hudson County in 1980.

She was a member of the Union Church in Lavallette and a past member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Jersey City for 52 years. She was an associate member of the Chapel on the Hill in Seminole, Fla., past president of the Ladies Auxiliary Exempt Firemen’s Association, Jersey City, and past president of the Vida Graham Missionary Society of the Calvary Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of the Lavallette Seniors Association, the Women’s Aid Society of the Union Church of Lavallette, Ladies Auxiliary Retired Police and Firemen's Association No. 8 of Ocean County and also the Red Hat Society of Lavallette “Crimson Mermaids.”

She was predeceased by her parents, William and Jennie Gilmartin; her husband, Herbert G. Mueller; two brothers, James and William Gilmartin; and two sisters, Josephine Van Horn and Eleanor Stier.

She is survived by two sons, William Mueller and his wife, Nancy, and Mark Mueller and his wife, Ann; one sister, Jane Phillips; two grandchildren, Sara Aubrey and Steven Van Heemst; and three great-grandchildren, Emily Mueller, Dylan Aubrey and Steven Henry Van Heemst.

The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Mildred M. Geraghty
Brick resident Mildred M. Geraghty, with family in Point Pleasent, died Sunday Nov. 23 at home with her family by her side.

She was 86 years old.

Mrs. Geraghty, who was born and raised in Newark, raised her family in the Vailsburg section of the city. She worked for the Essex County Sheriff’s Department for 25 years until her retirement in 1982.

Mrs. Geraghty summered in Brick before moving there permanently in 1982. She was very active in the John Cryan Association, the Newark St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, BPOE Does, Ladies Auxiliary of Police and Fire Relief of Ocean County, Women of Irish Heritage of North Jersey and Jersey Shore, Kiwanis of Greenbriar, VFW of Brick, Red Hats of Greenbriar 1.

She was a communicant of St. Domininc’s Church.

She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Thomas Geraghty in 2001. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. Geraghty, Jr. and his wife, Helene, of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Elaine and Anthony Koscinski, of Point Pleasant Beach and Joan and Paul Mueller, of Wall; six grandchildren, Susan Koscinski and her fiancé, Ted Hackman, Paul Koscinski and his wife, Jennifer, Thomas Geraghty III and his wife Jennifer, Andrea Geraghty, Austin and Ian Mueller; three step-grandchildren, Carla Mueller, Rachael and Rebecca Graziano; and two great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Ryan Koscinski.

The Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan was in charge of arrangements. Entombment took place at St. Catharine’ Mausoleum, Sea Girt.

Lois Crannell
Brick resident Lois Crannell, whose family resides in Point Pleasant and Point Pleasant Beach died Sunday, November 23 in her home surrounded by those she loved.

She was 80 years old.

Born in Elizabeth on August 31, 1928, Lois graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth and also attended Union County College in Cranford.

She married Alfred C. Crannell on June 12, 1948. The couple have been married for sixty years.

Lois worked for a time at Standard Oil Engineering, Bayway and for Anesthesia Associates at Elizabeth General Hospital. She was a coordinator for the Visiting Homemakers of Ocean County, worked at Point Pleasant Beach High School; and the House of Hearing Aids, Point Pleasant, before retiring to Greenbriar with her husband where she was a past member of the Greenbriar Bowling League and the Greenbriar Kiwanis.

Lois is survived by her husband, Alfred; three daughters, Susan Crannell of New Mexico; Alyson Swetits and her husband Pete; and Beth Crannell, all of Point Pleasant. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Colleen Crannell, also of Point Pleasant, who was married to Lois and Alfred’s son, David Crannell, who predeceased his mother. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Vincent Julian, Ryan & Devin Crannell, Peter, Matthew, Caitlin, and Robert Swetits; and one great-grandson, David Julian, all of Point Pleasant. Lois also leaves one sister, Lucille Ward of Point Pleasant Beach.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant was in charge of arrangements. Interment took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. Her grandsons and great-grandson were her pallbearers.

After Lois became ill, her motto was “I am going to live as if I am living.” This will be just a part of her lasting legacy.
