Theresa A. Raffetto
Spring Lake resident Theresa A. Raffeto died Tuesday, April 21 in the Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.

She was 83 years old.

She was born in New York and had lived in Manhattan, N.Y., before moving to Spring Lake in 1954.

She had graduated from Marymount College, Tarrytown, N.Y., and had attended the Actor’s Studio in New York, performing in Summer Stock and on TV. More recently, she was an actress for Spring Lake’s Pine Tree Players. She came from a long line of vaudeville and Broadway performers and her father managed seven Broadway theaters as president of City Playhouses.

She was a very active member of St. Catharine’s Parish, Spring Lake and was the treasurer of the pro-life committee of St. Catharine’s Church. Theresa was a volunteer for the Deborah Heart and Lung Center and had been president of the Spring Lake PTA.

Theresa was predeceased by her parents, Louis A. and Nina Lotito, and her brother, Louis J. Lotito.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Joseph Raffetto Jr.; and her devoted children: her son, Joseph Raffetto III of California, and her five daughters, Linda Bassini and husband, Dale, of Brick Township, Valerie Manfredini and husband, Giancarlo, of Italy, Laura Holl and husband, Chris, of Avon, Christina Foerst and husband, Drew, of Sea Girt, and Theresa Raffetto of Manhattan. Also surviving are her 11 cherished grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Gloria Palmer, and family of Wall Township.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township, was in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake, with burial at the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Thersa to the Pro-Life Committee of St. Catharine’s Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake 07762, or to the Cancer Research Institute, found at http://www.cancerresearch.org/give/memorial.html, or through calling 1-800-99-CANCER [992-2623].

Dorothy A. Nugent
Wall Township resident Dorothy A. Nugent died Thursday, April 23 in Waterford Glen Assisted Living, Wall Township.

She was 89 years old.

Dorothy was born and raised in Jersey City and had also lived in Spring Lake for many years before moving to Waterford Glen, Wall Township, six years ago. She had graduated from Notre Dame College, Staten Island, N.Y. and received her master’s degree from Rutgers College. She had been employed as the supervising librarian for Jersey City for 18 years before her retirement. A communicant of St. Paul’s Parish in Jersey City, she also was a dedicated member of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Dr. James A. KSG and Ellenor Farley Nugent; a sister, Margaret Nugent Morrison; and her niece, Eileen Chamos.

Surviving is her beloved sister, Eleanor F. Nugent of Wall Township; her nephew, Joseph Morrison; and her two nieces, Patricia Ahern and MaryEllen Williamson.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township was in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. Burial was in the Parish Cemetery.

Helen V. Gaynor
Neptune resident Helen V. Gaynor, with family in Lake Como and Wall Township, died Saturday, April 25 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 99 years old.

Born in Union City, she moved to Neptune in 1963.

She worked in the purchasing department at Jersey Shore then Fitkin Hospital, retiring in 1975. She was a communicant at Holy Innocents Church in Neptune. She was an avid reader and enjoyed vacations with her family at the cabin in New Hampshire. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Everyone will miss her kindness and spirit.

She was predeceased by her husband, Francis, in 1973.

Surviving are her son, Gerard and his wife, Patricia, of New Hampshire; two daughters, Eileen Parren and her husband, Robert, of Neptune, and Kathleen Matheson and her husband, Dean, of Alabama; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St. Belmar. Family and friends will gather a the funeral home tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Innocents Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Innocents Church, P.O. Box 806, Neptune 07753, would be appreciated.

Rachael ‘Chickie’ Loughlin
Manasquan resident Rachael “Chickie” Loughlin died Monday, April 27 in her home.

She was 77 years old.

She was born in Jersey City and lived in Cliffwood Beach where she was active in the PTA and the Democratic Club. She then moved to Manasquan where she lived for the last 34 years.

Rachael was a former cashier at the Manasquan Acme, where she was well known.

She was predeceased by her parents, James and Rachael Fallon; her husband, William Loughlin; her sons, Kevin and Michael; her daughter, Kathleen Petzold; her brother, James Fallon; and her sister, Julia Colicchio.

She is survived by her sons, William and Mark; her grandsons, Michael and James; her sister, Helen Thompson; and her brother, John Fallon.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manasquan. Interment will follow at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall Township.

Margaret G. Baer
Belmar resident Margaret G. Baer died Thursday, April 23 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was a graduate of Pompton Lakes High School and the Bucknell University Class of 1946.

She worked at Jersey Shore University Medical Center for the last 20 years. She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church in Belmar, as well as the Belmar Council of Churches.

Margaret loved her family, her church, anything to do with music, her horse, Sam, and the Yankees. For many years she was a participant in the annual Ocean Grove Choir Festival. Margaret enjoyed frequent trips with the Elder Hostel Program. She coordinated the food pantry at the Belmar Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; her brother, Charles; and her sister, Jane King.

Surviving are her children, Joan Cavanaugh and her husband, Michael, of Freehold, Thomas and his wife, Barbara, of Jackson, Donald and his wife, Bobbi, of Tucson, and Nancy Morris of Lake Como; one grandson, David Morris of Lake Como; and her nephews, Charles, John, David and Steven King, and Richard and Scott Oakley.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the ASPCA, the Foodbank of Monmouth County, or a charity of choice would be appreciated.

A memorial service was held at the Belmar United Methodist Church.

A sincere thank you to all her friends and the staff at Jersey Shore who have been so supportive and thoughtful during this time.

Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Jane Pickell
Wall Township resident Nancy Jane Pickell died Saturday, April 25 in the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 66 years old.

Born in Long Branch, she lived in Wall and was a lifelong resident of Monmouth County. She worked as a home health aid for Meridian Health Care. She was a former parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, Long Branch.

She was an avid fan of the New York Giants and NASCAR. She also loved watching her grandson’s sporting events.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis Larry Pickell, in 1986 and her brother, Bobby Guilfoyle, in 1979.

She is survived by her son, Michael Pickell and his wife, Cheryl, of Neptune; her daughter, Christine Janssen and her husband, Dave, of Wall; her sister, Cathleen Hoenge and fiancé, Frank Kardos, of North Venice, Fla.; and two grandchildren, David and Andrew. She is also survived by her niece, Marilyn Heonge of Hobe Sound, Fla., and her lifelong friend, Fred Yobs of Teaneck.

The funeral will leave the Francioni, Taylor and Lopez Funeral Home, 1200 10th and Atkins avenues, Neptune, today at 10 a.m. for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Rose Roman Catholic Church in Belmar. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Rose’s Fund for Animals, P.O. Box 24, Avon-by-the-Sea, 07717 would be appreciated.

Ethel Maugeri
Wall resident Ethel Maugeri died Monday, Jan. 5 at the Geraldine L. Thompson Care Center, Allenwood.

She was 89 years old.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she moved to Wall Township in 1958.

Mrs. Maugeri took an active part in various civic activities, serving as a girl scout and brownie leader, in addition to a den mother with the cub scouts. She worked at the K-Mart of Wall in the office and jewelry department before her retirement, where she enjoyed the daily social interaction with her fellow employees and customers.

Mrs. Maugeri was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank Maugeri in 1978.

She is survived by her loving children Valeria Maugeri, Michael Maugeri and Lisa D’Amico, and her grandchildren Desiree and Chole D’Amico.

A graveside service was held at St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall.

Arrangements were entrusted to Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall.

Harriet Gross Kerr
Belmar resident Harriet Gross Kerr died Sunday, January 4 at Health South Rehab, Toms River.

She was 79 years old.

Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she lived in Belmar most of her life. She was a graduate of St. Rose High School Class of 1946 and a member of the Church of St. Rose. She loved the beach and trips to Atlantic City.

Mrs. Kerr was predeceased by her husband Samuel and her son Andrew.

Surviving are her sons John of Woodbridge, Va., and Dennis P. of Red Bank, as well as two sisters, Patricia Kolb of Pine Beach and Carol McDonald of Wall, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 9 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St. Belmar. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose Church at 9:30 a.m. Internment will be at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Wall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Rose High School Building Fund, 607 7th Avenue, Belmar, 07715, would be appreciated.
