Arlyne S. Nash
Avon-by-the-Sea resident Arlyne S. Nash died Friday, Jan. 2 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Mrs. Nash had been employed as a clerk for NJ Bell, Newark, many years ago.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Bloomfield and Spring Lake Heights before moving to Avon 13 years ago.
She was a Communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church, Avon, a member of the Altar Rosary Society, and had volunteered in the Soup Kitchen at St. John’s Church, Newark and for Meals on Wheels. She was very active as a volunteer in many organizations as her children grew up.
She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel F. Nash, in 2005.
Surviving are her children, D. Robert Nash, Marilynn Dinwoodie and Susann N. Byrnes; her four grandchildren Jeffrey, Kate, Timothy and Erin; and her great-grandchildren Samantha, Daniel and Alexander.
O’Brien Funeral Home Wall, was in charge of the arrangements. Burial
was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Charles H. McSpiritt
Avon resident Charles H. McSpiritt died Monday, Dec. 29 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 82 years old.
Formerly of Newark, Verona, and Brielle, he was born, raised and educated in Newark, a graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School Class of ‘43. After serving in World War II U.S. Army Air Corps, he graduated from Seton Hall University Class of ‘49. He was an estimator for the millwrights and heavy construction industry. He was associated with Brennan Construction for many years. He loved and lived for his family, his faith, his golf, his Belmar Club and the Laicos Club.
He was predeceased by his parents Charles H. and Ann, nee McNeely, McSpirrit, his sister Marian, and his beloved wife of 36 years, Margaret Louise, nee Richardson, McSpiritt.
He is survived by his children: Andrew J. and his wife Bonnie, Charles J. and his wife Janice, James W. and his wife Chi, John M. and his wife Kelli and Thomas J. and his wife Elizabeth, eleven grandchildren, and siblings: Anita McCudden, Catherine Kelleher and Rev. John P. McSpiritt, S.T.
Relatives and friends were invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial
at the Church of Saint Elizabeth, Avon. Internment followed at St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall. Arrangements were handled by the McDonough Funeral Home.
Joseph T. Hurley
Wall resident Joseph T. Hurley died Friday, Jan. 2 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
He was 50 years old.
Born in Neptune, Joe was self employed with the family business Harry W. Hurley & Son Acoustical Ceilings of Wall Township since 1967. He was also an avid antique dealer with a sharp eye for the genuine item. Joe served as a baseball coach for his son’s team with the Wall Little League. Joe loved life, having the enthusiasm of 10 people rolled into one. He remained a loyal Bruce Springsteen fan from the first time he heard him play at the Stone Pony.
He was a familiar figure at the Wall Stadium as he raced his stock car under the Hurley Racing Flag. He also loved Vermont and the great fishing and friends he found there.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harry W. Hurley II and Jill Seymour Hurley.
Joe is survived by his former wife Patricia Purcaro, his son Harry W. Hurley III, his sisters Lynda Hurley, Cindy DiGironimo, his uncle Lester Hurley and his companion Susan Berg.
Visitation will be held today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Johnson McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Highway 138, Wall, adjacent to the Rt. 18 entrance. A funeral service will then be offered at 8:15 p.m. at the funeral home with Assistant Pastor John Gross of the Cornerstone Calvary Chapel presiding.
Charles Clarence Westendorf III
Lake Worth, Fla. resident Charles Clarence Westendorf III, formerly of Wall, died Oct. 10 in his home.
He was 56 years old.
Charles was a graduate of Wall High School and excelled playing football. He then went on to play collegiate football at Wesley College and Trenton State College.
Charles was a gardener and caretaker for an estate in Palm Beach, Fla. for many years.
Charles was also a Navy veteran.
He was born in New Brunswick and lived in Wall Township most of his life before moving to Florida several years ago.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, Charles Sr. and Gloria Frances [nee Crosbie] Westendorf.
He is survived by his step-father Julian C. Jones, of Point Pleasant; five sisters, Barbara Westendorf, of Toms River, Gloria and David Parsons, of Micco, Fla., Peggy and Barry Osborn, of Brick, Frances W. and Peter Tonks, of Brick, Gail and Thomas Watkins, of Point Pleasant and Kathleen and Michael Madigan, of Gibsonia, Pa., as well as many nieces and nephews.
A chapel service was held at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown. Arrangements were under the direction of Orender Family Home for Funerals, Wall.
Arthur J. Dunn
Sea Girt resident Arthur J. Dunn died Monday, Jan. 5 in his home.
He was 86 years old.
Born in Newark, he lived in Irvington and Red Bank before moving to Sea Girt 54 years ago.
Mr. Arthur graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark, and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, W.V. He joined the Navy during World War II and served on an LST in the Pacific and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant JG. After the war, he graduated from Lafayette College, Easton, Pa. He then worked for Prudential Insurance Company in Newark. Arthur was a member of St. Uriels Episcopal Church, serving in past years on the Vestry and as head of the Ushers. He was also a Sunday school teacher at church. He was a member of the Sea Girt Fire Company and past member and president of the Sea Girt Board of Education.
Arthur loved his family, all his many friends, summer vacations in Lake George and Sebago Lake in Maine. He was an avid sports fan, especially Manasquan High School football. He was known best for riding around town on his bicycle visiting people.
Mr. Dunn was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Anna Dunn.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Audrey E. [nee Bennett], the love of his life, and is also survived by two daughters, Sharon of Bradley Beach and Loren Pace and her husband Thomas of Sea Girt, as well as three grandchildren, Ashley and her husband Ketan, Ryan and Lindsay.
Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. Uriel’s Episcopal Church, Sea Girt. Internment will be in Fairview cemetery in Middletown. Neary Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Uriel’s Episcopal Church or the Manasquan First Aid Squad would be appreciated.
Eleanor “Ellie” Tully
Wall resident Eleanor “Ellie” Tully died Wednesday, Dec. 31.
She was 86 years old.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to George and Mary Guinan, Ellie was raised with her three sisters before moving to Jersey City with her husband and true love, the late John Paul Tully.
Together, Ellie and John had five children and raised them in Jersey City before moving the family to the shore area in 1955.
Ellie worked as an administrative assistant to the late Monsignor Grimes at St. Catharine’s Rectory. A devoted worker, Ellie’s steadfast presence at the rectory was only surpassed by her devotion to her family, and her own faith in Christ.
Ellie was involved in SCAMP and loved spending time socially with her friends and family, especially trips to Disney with her grandchildren and relaxing poolside with a great book. She had a warm smile for all she met and will be truly missed.
Ellie is survived by her daughter Mary and husband, Joseph LaMountain, daughter Ellen and husband, Edward Batzle, daughter Joanne Tully, son John and wife, Pamela Tully, and son William and wife, Laura Tully.
Ellie also leaves “sister” Gloria Brown; as well as her six grandchildren Courtney, Jack, Connor and Olivia; step-grandchildren Joseph and Derek; and her step-great-grandchildren Mein and Phoebe.

Cecilia E. Manning
Shark River Hills resident Cecilia E. Manning, formerly of Belmar, died Monday, Jan. 5 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 73 years old.
Born in the Red Hook Section of Brooklyn, she moved to Belmar in 1974 and to Shark River Hills in 2000. She was a member and communicant at Holy Innocents Church in Neptune. She was executive secretary for the president of First Jersey National Bank in Belmar for almost 20 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sergeant Robert Emmett Manning of the N.Y.P.D. and a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Surviving are two sons, Kevin Brennan Manning of Monroe Township and Patrick T. Manning of Shark River Hills; four daughters, Amy Brennan Sweeney and her husband Patrick of Misawia, Japan, Kathleen Cecilia Manning of Allenwood, Mary Margaret Manning and her fiance Stuart Feinman of Shark River Hills and Kerry Anne Betlesky and her husband Scott of Wall; one brother, James P. Donnelly of Carlstadt; three sisters, Catherine Lyons of Succashanna, Theresa Harris of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Rosemary Jennings of Brick; eight grandchildren, Tara, Norah, Eamonn, Kylie, Bobby, Jesse and Michael; a brother-in-law Brennan Manning; a sister-in-law Geraldine Rubino and her husband Artie; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St. Belmar. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial
at Holy Innocents Church, Neptune. Internment will be at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Wall.
Edna Huff
Wall resident Edna Huff died Sunday, Jan. 4 at Monmouth County Care Center, Allenwood.
She was 89 years old.
Edna was born in Jersey City and was a lifelong resident of Cranford. Edna and her husband George moved to Wall in 2000. Edna was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Edna was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, George Huff, in 2003.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law George “Mike” and Lynda Huff of Perkinsville, Vt., three daughters and two sons-in-law Janet Walsh of Spring Lake, Linda and Robert McStay of Corsicana, Texas and Barbara and Joseph Tomalavage of Vernon Hills, Ill. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Michael, Kerri, Stacy, Robert, Katie, Jeffrey, Kristin, Jill, David and Lindsay, as well as 11 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends were invited to call at the Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A funeral service will be held today at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Internment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield.
