Winifred Blyth, 79
CSH Volunteer; Retired School Cafeteria Employee
Winifred Briant Blyth, 79, a lifelong resident of Westfield, died on Wednesday, June 3, 1998 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Mrs. Blyth had been employed as a cafeteria worker at Roosevelt Junior High School, now Roosevelt Intermediate School, for 20 years before retiring in 1976.
She was an active volunteer with Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside for many years.
Mrs. Blyth was predeceased by her husband, Charles Blyth, in 1987.
Surviving are a son, Charles Blyth of Phoenix, Arizona; two daughters, Susan Labenski of Bridgewater and Barbara Maloney of Washington; three sisters, Alice Nelson, Kay Kunz and Bertha Pfeiffer; three brothers, Russell Briant, Donald Briant and Clarence Briant, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 5, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield. Interment was private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1034 Salem Road, Union, 07083, or to Children's Specialized Hospital, 150 New Providence Road, Mountainside, 07092.
Albert Bartlett, 78
Church Deacon; Was Brick Mason for Many Years
Albert Bartlett, 78, of Westfield died on Monday, June 1, 1998 at his home.
Born in Williamsburg, Virginia, he had lived most of his life in Westfield.
Mr. Bartlett had been a brick mason with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Union Local No. 34 of Westfield for many years before retiring.
He was a deacon at St. John the Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, and was a member of the Men's Fellowship Group. Mr. Bartlett was also a former member of the church's gospel choir.
Surviving are his wife, Willie Mae Bartlett; three daughters, Verma Lewis of Seaford, Virginia, Alberta Taliaferro of Newport News, Virginia, and Sheryl Powell of Grafton, Virginia; a brother, Charles Bartlett of Newport News; four sisters, Flossie Prunty of Plainfield and Florence Johnson, Pearl Moody and Elnora Lee, all of Williamsburg, Virginia; four stepsons, Marvin Stith, Gilbert Stith, Kenneth Stith and Martin Stith, all of Westfield; a stepdaughter, Joyce Stith, also of Westfield; 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 4, at St. John the Baptist Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Plinton Curry Funeral Home in Westfield.
Robert DeLazaro
Former Journalist; Was Assistant to Two Congressmen
Robert DeLazaro, 69, of Westfield died on Friday, May 22, 1998 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Lyons in Bernards Township.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Plainfield before moving to Westfield 25 years ago.
Mr. DeLazaro had worked as an aide to now- retired Congressman Matthew Rinaldo of the Seventh District and later for his successor, Congressman Robert Franks, before retiring in 1994.
Previously, he had been a reporter, columnist and editor for several New Jersey newspapers, including the Courier-News and the now-defunct Elizabeth Daily Journal.
Mr. DeLazaro had met former Congressman Rinaldo when they were children growing up in Elizabeth. He joined Mr. Rinaldo's staff in 1973 as his press secretary and worked for him for 20 years. He subsequently served as Special Assistant to Congressman Franks.
Mr. DeLazaro graduated from Syracuse University in 1951, and attended graduate school at Columbia University and Stanford University.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a diplomatic courier in Europe.
During his years as a newspaperman, he won awards from the New Jersey Press Association for his work as an editorial and political writer. He also won an award from the American Political Science Association for distinguished reporting.
He was a parishioner at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Westfield and was a member of the Westfield Republican Club.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, the former Catherine Sansalone; a daughter, Hollie DeLazaro of Westfield; a son, Peter DeLazaro of Westfield; his mother, Ann DeLazaro of Cranford and his brother, S. Walter DeLazaro of Cranford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, May 28, at St. Helen's Church. Burial will follow at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Center for Hope Hospice, 176 Hussa Street, Linden, 07036.
Arthur F. Maher, 78
Navy Veteran; Retired Executive With Linden Firm
Arthur F. Maher, 78, of Mountainside died on Thursday, May 21, 1998 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Queens Village, Long Island, he had lived in Mountainside for the last 20 years.
Mr. Maher had been a Vice President and Comptroller with Rheem Manufacturing Company of Linden before retiring in 1985 after 33 years of service.
He was a 1948 graduate of Pace University in New York.
During World War II he served with the United States Navy on a destroyer escort with the Atlantic fleet.
Surviving are several cousins.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 23, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Helen Tetley, 74
Former Librarian; Was Member of Suburban Golf Club
Helen G. Tetley, 74, of Mountainside died on Thursday, May 21, 1998 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Bayonne, she had lived in Mountainside since 1953.
Mrs. Tetley had been a librarian for the Scotch Plains-Fanwood school system for 15 years before retiring in 1983. She also was a librarian at the Mountainside Public Library.
A 1943 graduate of Montclair State College, Mrs. Tetley held a bachelor's degree in education.
She was a member of the Friends of the Mountainside Public Library and the Suburban Golf Club in Union.
Surviving are her husband, William Tetley; two sons, Mark E. Tetley and William C. Tetley; a brother, Edwin Golubrewski, and a grandchild.
Memorial services were held on Monday, May 25, in the Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Warren A. Brannon, 74
Warren A. Brannon, 74, of Fanwood died on Sunday, May 24, 1998 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Whiteford, Maryland, he had lived in Long Branch before moving to Fanwood 39 years ago.
A teacher for 44 years, Mr. Brannon had taught history and humanities at Summit High School in Summit for 29 years before retiring in 1988.
He held a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Millersville University in Pennsylvania and a master's degree in literature from the University of Pittsburgh.
He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Mr. Brannon was Past President of the Fanwood Library Board and the Summit Adult School Board.
He was a John Hay Fellow in the Humanities at Columbia University in New York City.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Patricia Price Brannon; three daughters, Claire Biffis of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Hope Pantazis of Westfield and Helen Brannon of Fanwood; three sons, W. Price Brannon of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, Peter Brannon of Edison and Christopher Brannon of Easton, Pennsylvania, and nine grandchildren.
The funeral was held yesterday, Wednesday, May 27, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood, followed by a Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Interment took place at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania.

Zelda Eisenberg
Zelda Eisenberg of Westfield died on Monday, May 18, 1998 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Springfield before moving to Westfield two months ago.
Ms. Eisenberg had been a private bookkeeper for Peerless Electric in Newark for many years prior to retiring.
Surviving is a sister, Pearl Eisenberg.
Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
