Lawrence C. Grambo, 74
Engineer; CSH Volunteer and Church Member
Lawrence C. Grambo, 74, of Westfield died on Saturday, May 23, 1998 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Kearny, he had lived in Westfield since 1953.
A professional engineer, Mr. Grambo had been Director of Maintenance Facilities for the Hoechst Corporation in Bridgewater for 10 years before retiring in 1989.
He received a mechanical engineering degree from Newark College of Engineering, now the New Jersey Institute of Technology, in 1947. Mr. Grambo later obtained a master's degree.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Grambo was a member of Atlas Pythagoras Lodge No. 10 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Westfield, and was a 32nd degree Knight of the Scottish Rite Masons.
He was an Elder and Deacon of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, and a member of the church's Chapter 13 group.
He was also a member of the Westfield Senior Citizens' Club and a volunteer for Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside.
Surviving are a son, Glenn L. Grambo of Richmond, Virginia; a daughter, Wendy G. Woodfield of Westfield, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, May 28, in the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield. Interment followed at The Old Tennent Cemetery in Tennent.
Arrangements are being handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the Westfield Rescue Squad, 335 Watterson Stree, Westfield, 07090.
Lester B. Lewy, 78
Lester B. Lewy, 78, of Toms River died on Friday, May 22, 1998 in the Bartley Manor Health Care Center in Jackson Township.
Born in Westfield, he had lived in Chatham Borough before moving to Toms River five years ago.
Mr. Lewy had been an executive with the Home Fire and Casualty Insurance Company in New York City for 43 years prior to retiring. He later worked for AT& T in Morristown for six years.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Jayne Lewy; two sons, R. James Lewy and Bruce S. Lewy, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held under the direction of the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.
Bert E. Rich, 83
Bert E. Rich, 83, of Westfield died on Wednesday, May 20, 1998 in the Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Irvington before moving to Westfield six months ago.
Mr. Rich had been a mixer with the Congoleum-Nairn Company in Kearny for 30 years prior to retiring in 1975.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline M. Rich; two sons, Nathaniel Robb and Ernest B. Rich; two daughters, Barbara J. Mosely and Diane Fairfax; two sisters, Dorothy Jones and Adele Blakely; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 26, at the Canaan Baptist Church in Newark.
Arrangements were handled by the G. G. Woody Funeral Home in Roselle.
Odelia M. Grandner, 90
Odelia M. Grandner, 90, of Orefield, Pennsylvania died on Sunday, May 17, 1998 at Lehigh Valley Hospice in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Fanwood from 1950 to 1993 before moving to Orefield.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Grandner was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Orefield. She was a former member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Grandner, in 1973. Surviving are a son, Wilfrid "Bill" Grandner of Orefield; four grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 21, at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
Emilie R. Richold, 78
Emilie R. Alfson Richold, 78, of Westfield died on Tuesday, May 26, 1998 at home.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Westfield since 1953.
She was a member of the Amity Club of Westfield.
Surviving are her husband, Robert J. Richold; two sons, Robert G. Richold of Lebanon and William C. Richold of Pittstown; a sister, Louise Watson of Arlington, Virginia; five grandchildren, and a great- grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, Thursday, May 28, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield. Graveside services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Lillian McCarthy, 80
Lillian McCarthy, 80, of the Whiting section of Manchester died on Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at home.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Roselle for 32 years before moving to Whiting in 1984.
Mrs. McCarthy had been employed by Hahne and Company in Westfield for five years.
She was a graduate of the New York Institute of Dietetics.
She was a member of the Crestwood Village 2 Residents Clubs, Women’s Club and Travel Club.
She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Kazeppis, in 1995.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Justin T. McCarthy; a son, Raymond McCarthy of Mountainside, and two sisters, Rose Werner of Chatham Township and Margaret Peabody of Whiting.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Funeral arrangements were under direction of Aaron Cremation Associates, Inc. in Whiting.
Maria Roth, 92
Maria Roth, 92, of Montreal, Canada, died on Thursday, May 11, 2000 at her residence.
Born in Hungary, she resided in Montreal for the past 50 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Bartok of Westfield and Katherine Halpern of Durham, N.C.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Monday, May 15, at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Fairview.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
