Joseph A. C. Komich, 91
Engineer; Mountainside Mayor from 1957-1960
Joseph A. C. Komich, 91, a former Mayor of Mountainside and a borough resident for nearly 60 years, died on Friday, April 17, 1998 at home.
Born in Boston, he had moved to Mountainside in 1939.
Mr. Komich was a 1929 graduate of Northeastern College in Boston.
He had been a civil engineer for the American Oil Company in Newark and New York City for many years prior to retiring. Mr. Komich later was a civil engineer for Union County for several years.
He served as the Mayor of Mountainside from 1957 to 1960.
Surviving are his wife, Mary E. Komich; a daughter, Mary P. Komich; two brothers, John Komich and Albert Komich, and a sister, Nellie Lehey.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow, Friday, April 24, in the memorial garden of the Community Presbyterian Church of Mountainside.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Minchin Funeral Home in Paterson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church of Mountainside.
Dr. Herbert Langer, 74
Won Award; Was the Father of Four Physicians
Dr. Herbert Langer, 74, of Westfield and Del Ray Beach, Florida, died on Thursday, April 16, 1998 in Rahway Hospital.
Born in New York City, he had lived in Cranford before moving to Westfield and Florida more than 30 years ago.
Dr. Langer maintained a private practice in Cranford for more than 40 years before retiring four years ago.
He had been Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rahway Hospital during the 1970s, and also served in that capacity at Elizabeth General Medical Center and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Elizabeth, and at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Dr. Langer also served on the adjunct faculty at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and the University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark.
A graduate of the Yeshiva of Flatbush in Brooklyn, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science from the City College of New York, and his medical degree from the University of Arkansas in 1948.
He was a fellow and diplomate of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and as a Captain in the Medical Corps of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Dr. Langer was a member of the American Medical Association and the Union County Medical Society.
He was an associate life member of Hadassah of Cranford and a member of B'nai B'rith of Westfield, Mountainside and Scotch Plains. He was a past Vice President of Temple Beth El of Cranford and Westfield, and received the Lion of Judah award for State of Israel Bonds.
Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Langer; three sons, Dr. Ian Langer, Dr. Kenneth Langer and Dr. Paul Langer; a daughter, Dr. Carolyn Langer- Lilly, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 19, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Frank T. Soell, 68
Frank T. Soell, 68, of Mountainside, died on Friday, April 17, 1998 at home.
Mr. Soell had been the maintenance manager of the Lincoln Federal Savings Bank in Westfield for 10 years before retiring.
Prior to that, he had owned and operated Mercury T. V. Service of Hillside for many years.
Surviving is a brother Rudolph A. Soell.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 21, in the McCracken Funeral Home in Union.
Norman S. Mott, 67
Norman S. Mott, 67, of Lakewood, formerly of Westfield, died on Saturday, April 18, 1998 at home.
Born on July 25, 1930 in Brooklyn, he had lived in Westfield for 65 years before moving to Lakewood two years ago.
Mr. Mott had been employed as a first class lineman with PSE&G in Newark and Plainfield for 33 years, retiring in 1989.
He had served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield and Martin Wallberg Post No. 3 of the American Legion in Westfield.
He was predeceased by his father, Norman S. Mott.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy H. Hollberg Mott; his mother, Evelyn Wagner Mott of Napa, California; a son, Thomas N. Mott of Dunellen, and a brother, William S. Mott of Napa, California.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, April 23, at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen.

Grace Pletscher, 68
Active in Church; Had Been Girl Scout Leader in Town
Grace Norma Pletscher, 68, of Basking Ridge died on Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at her home.
Born in Zurich, Switzerland, Mrs. Pletscher came to the United States in October of 1969. She had lived in Bloomfield and later in Westfield for many years before moving to Basking Ridge 10 years ago.
She was a member of the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church and the Basking Ridge Garden Club.
Mrs. Pletscher was a former member of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, Adult Education teacher and an elder of the church. She was also a Girl Scout Leader for the Westfield Girl Scouts.
Surviving are her husband, H. Peter Pletscher; a son, Markus B. Pletscher of Fanwood; a daughter, Petra B. Klein of Cranbury, and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Thursday, April 23, in the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church on Church Street in Liberty Corner.

Boyd E. Wilson, Jr., 72
Boyd E. Wilson, Jr., 72, of Mountainside, died on Friday, April 17, 1998 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Mountainside.
Born in Jersey City, he had lived in South Orange and Westfield before moving to Mountainside in 1995.
Mr. Wilson had been a salesman for many years for Griggs Motors in South Orange before retiring.
He attended Columbia University in New York City, and was a graduate of Kean University in Union.
Mr. Wilson was a volunteer for the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield and a member of the Secular Order of Carmel, Morristown chapter, for 40 years.
Surviving is a sister, Virginia W. Thomson.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, in the Holy Trinity Church in Westfield.

Frederick Giacobbe, 84
Frederick V. Giacobbe, 84, of Scotch Plains, died on Saturday, April 18, 1998 at home.
Born in Newark, he had lived there before moving to Scotch Plains in 1951.
Mr. Giacobbe had been a plant manager at Stylecraft Clothing Company in West Orange for 45 years, retiring in 1984. He had worked at Curtis Wright Aircraft during World War II.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, as well as its Holy Name Society and Golden Age Society.
Mr. Giacobbe was also a member of the Scotch Plains- Fanwood Chapter of UNICO and the Knights of Columbus No. 5730 in Scotch Plains.
He was predeceased by his brother, Vincent Giacobbe.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Mattucci Giacobbe; two daughters, Frances Loneker and Diana West; two sisters, Florence Bocchini and Rose Palma, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, April 22, at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by Mass at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church.
