Vincent Giffert, 82
Vincent Giffert, 82, of Manchester Township, died on Wednesday, April 29, 1998 at home.
Born in Roselle, he had lived in Westfield before moving to Manchester 10 years ago.
He had been a planning consultant for Prudential Insurance Company in Newark for 48 years, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Giffert served in the United States Army during World War II.
He graduated with a degree in engineering from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.
Surviving are his wife, Jean E. Giffert; a son, David W. Giffert; a daughter, Margaret Beresik, and four grandchildren.
Private services were arranged under the direction of the DeGraff Cremation Service in Lakehurst.
Jean Kurus, 73
Jean Kurus, 73, of Fanwood, died on Thursday, April 30, 1998 at home.
Born in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, she had lived in Hillside and later in Toms River for 20 years before moving to Fanwood eight months ago.
Mrs. Kurus had been an inspector for American Can Company in Hillside for 18 years prior to retiring in 1967.
She was a member of St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church in Newark.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Kurus, in 1988.
Surviving are a son, Stephen Kurus of Toms River; a daughter, Allison Allen of Fanwood; a sister, Mary Peregrim of Manahawkin; five brothers, Stephen Bezuhly of Claremont, California, Michael Bezuhly and Nicholas Bezuhly, both of California, Paul Bezuhly of Old Forge, Pennsylvania, and William Bezuhly of Arizona, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 4, at St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church in Rahway. Interment took place at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside.
Arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, in Fanwood.
Elsie E. Wilhelm, 80
Elsie Emily Wilhelm, 80, of Port Charlotte, Florida, died on Wednesday, April 29, 1998 in Bon Secours-Venice Hospital in Venice, Florida.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Fanwood prior to moving to Port Charlotte 18 years ago.
Mrs. Wilhelm had worked for Fanwood Corner Store in Fanwood and CVI Concessions in the Exxon Research Facility in Florham Park before retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10476 in El Jobean, Florida, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels in Englewood, Florida, and the Englewood Community Hospital gift shop.
Surviving are her husband, Michael Wilhelm; two sons, Kim Wilhelm and Lance Wilhelm, and a grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 1, in the Hope Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte.
Arrangements were handled by the Englewood Community Funeral Home in Englewood.
Clare M. Zanfini
Clare M. Zanfini died on Tuesday, April 28, 1998 at Hartwyck at Cedar Brook Nursing Home in Plainfield.
Born in Paterson, she had lived in North Plainfield and Plainfield before moving to Scotch Plains in 1950.
Mrs. Zanfini had been an accountant at Sears in Watchung for 25 years, retiring in 1993. She also was an instructor of furniture refurnishing and decoupage for Adult Education Programs in North Plainfield and throughout the state.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosemarie Harvey and Clare M. Zanfini; two brothers, Peter Vano and Joseph Vano, and two sisters, Philomena Izzo and Marion Haberman.
A Mass was offered on Friday, May 1, at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains, following funeral services from the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
Mary Bugle, 92
Led Golden Agers; Organized and Led Girl Scout Troops
Mary Nedorolik Bugle, 92, of Flemington, died on Thursday, April 30, 1998 at Hunterdon Health Care Center in Flemington.
Born in Newark, she had been a longtime resident of Scotch Plains prior to moving to Flemington seven years ago.
Mrs. Bugle had worked as an assistant at St. John's Baptist Church in Scotch Plains and then in the arts and crafts department of Birchwood Nursing and Convalescent Center in Edison.
She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Plainfield. In addition, she was an active volunteer in community service and was instrumental in organizing and leading many Girl Scout troops in Scotch Plains.
Mrs. Bugle was a member of the Washington Rock Girl Scout Council for several years and was past Director of the Scotch Plains Golden Agers. She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Bugle, Sr., in 1970, and by a sister, Rose Loeffler, and a brother, John Nedorolik.
Surviving are a son, Edwin Bugle, Jr. of Whitehouse Station; three daughters, Mary Crocco of Trinity, Texas, Alice Kyrioglou of Warren and Gloria Pellegrino of South Plainfield; a sister, Doris Warner of Martinsville; a brother, Milton Nedorolik of North Plainfield; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 4, at St. Peter's Church. Arrangements were handled by the McCriskin Home for Funerals in South Plainfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in North Plainfield.
Dennis M. Orleans, 43
Dennis Michael Orleans, 43, of Manasquan died on Sunday, May 3, 1998 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.
Born in Montclair, he had lived in New Providence, Mountainside and Ocean Grove before moving to Manasquan.
Mr. Orleans was a self-employed horticulturist and artist in the shore area, specializing in fine arts, crafts and photography.
He was a member of various art leagues and associations in the New Jersey and New York area.
Surviving are his mother, Catherine Orleans; three brothers, David Orleans, Richard Orleans and James Orleans, and two sisters, Diane Subber and Christine Cartier.
A Funeral Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, May 6, at St. Denis Church in Manasquan.
Arrangements were handled by the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan.
Norman Jackson, 76
Army Veteran; Had Taught Mathematics in Westfield
NormanH. Jackson, 76, of Holmdel died on Tuesday, April 28, 1998 in the Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel.
Born in North Plainfield, he had lived in Plainfield before moving to Holmdel in 1983.
Mr. Jackson had been a mathematics teacher for the Westfield school system for 32 years before retiring in 1980.
Previously, he had been a mathematics teacher for the Blairstown school district and had also taught at the Wardlaw School in Plainfield.
Mr. Jackson was a 1947 graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.
He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II.
He was an umpire for the Twilight Softball League of Plainfield.
Surviving are his wife, Olive D. Jackson; a son, Edward B. Jackson; a daughter, Bonnie Imposimato; a brother, Edward Jackson; a sister, Virginia Shields, and two grandchildren.
Private services were arranged under the direction of the Holmdel Funeral Home.
