Margarete Hendricks, 92, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 in the Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains.
Born in Germany, she lived in East Orange and Newark before moving to Scotch Plains last year.
Mrs. Hendricks was a saleswoman for Muelers Bakery in East Orange for 30 years, before retiring 34 years ago.
She was a member of the 3M Club and the Woman’s Fellowship, both of the United Church of Christ in Newark.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Frances Ward, and a sister, Karoline Graeff.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, August 12, at 11 a.m. in the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston.
Stanley Franzyshen, Sr., 74
Former Oil Distributor at Dean Oil Company
Stanley C. Franzyshen, Sr., 74, of Somerset died on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 at Somerset Medical Center.
Born in Somerset, he was a lifelong resident of the Somerset section of Franklin Township.
Mr. Franzyshen was employed at Dean Oil Company in Fanwood for 45 years before retiring in 1988.
He was an active member of the Elizabeth Avenue Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years; a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners – Fire District I, Franklin Township and past exalted ruler of the Bound Brook Elks, BPOE No. 1388.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church in South Bound Brook.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Edward Franzyshen, John Franzyshen and Frank Franzyshen, and three sisters, Helen Franzyshen, Ethel Franzyshen and Josephine Franzyshen.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Lillian Franzyshen; a son, Stanley Franzyshen, Jr. of Somerset; a sister, Sophie Kulaszewski of Somerset and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 13, at 9:30 a.m. from the Conroy Funeral Home in Bound Brook, followed by a 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church in South Bound Brook.
Interment will be held at the Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, August 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Conroy Funeral Home.
Ernest Andersen, 73
Ernest Andersen, 73, of Garwood died on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Westfield for 35 years.
Mr. Andersen was an accountant for Kearfott, Little Falls for 37 years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he had served in the European Theater.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Andersen; two daughters, Ann Marie Dreyer and Laurie Ann Green; a son, Ernest Andersen, 3rd; three sisters, Helen Doherty, Clara Abbott and Ruth Barry; a brother, Dave Andersen and three grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield today, Thursday, August 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield on Friday, August 13, at 10 a.m.
Adele E. Tobelmann
Adele E. Tobelmann, 84, of Fort Myers, Fla. died on Sunday, August 1, 1999.
Born in Newark, she was a resident of Westfield for 50 years before moving to Florida.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Tobelmann, in 1996.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Sumner Grant of Manlius, N.Y., and Elaine Gordon Grose of West Linn, Ore.; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1100 Boulevard, Westfield.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harvey-Engelhard-Metz Funeral Home in Fort Myers.
Walter ‘Doc’ Waters, 89
ITT Retiree; Member of Scotch Plains Sierra Club
Walter “Doc” Waters, 89, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, August 15, 1998 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington.
Born in Port Jefferson, Long Island, New York, Mr. Waters had lived in Van Cortlandt Park in The Bronx before moving to Scotch Plains 41 years ago.
He was a graduate of the Merchants and Bankers School in New York City.
He had been a night manager at the Hotel Commodore in New York City and also at the Bermudiana and Castle Harbor Hotels in Bermuda before becoming head purchasing agent for ITT Mackay Marine in Clark.
Mr. Waters retired from ITT in 1972 after 30 years with the company.
He was a past member of the Rahway Yacht Club and also spent many hours of service with the Scotch Plains Sierra Club and Citizens CB Patrol.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite A. Waters, on July 30.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane W. Andresen of Readington; a son, Charles R. Waters of Readington, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, August 19, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Interment took place at the Readington Reformed Church Cemetery in Readington.
Joseph A. Guglielmi, 61
Broker; Owner of Station Coffee Shoppe
Joseph A. Guglielmi, 61, a lifelong resident of Westfield, died on Tuesday, August 11, 1998 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Mr. Guglielmi was the owner of the Station Coffee Shoppe in Westfield for the past three years. Previously, he had been a real estate broker and the owner of Boulevard Camera in Kenilworth.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Boyton Guglielmi; his mother, Rina
Guglielmi of Westfield; three daughters, Pattie Agosto of Lanoka Harbor, Barbara Mendoza of High Bridge, and Janice Guglielmi of Westfield; two sisters, Norma Guglielmi of Westfield and Julia Santa Barbara of Clark, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 15, at the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, in Westfield. Interment took place at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
Josephine F. Piasecka
Josephine F. Piasecka of Garwood died on Wednesday, August 12, 1998 in the Cornell Hall Nursing Home in Union.
Born in Poland, she had lived in New York City, Elizabeth, Roselle and Westfield before moving to Garwood in 1978.
Miss Piasecka had worked for the Accurate Bushing Company in Garwood for more than 40 years before retiring in 1987.
A Funeral Mass was offered on Monday, August 17, at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church in Garwood, following the funeral from the Werson Funeral Home in Linden.
