Herbert W. Nannen, 89
Bank Executive; Had Lived in Westfield Over 40 Years
Herbert W. Nannen, 89, of Harleysville, Pennsylvania died on Sunday, November 8, 1998 in Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, Pennsylvania.
Born in Carteret, the son of the late Henry C. and Anna Mayerhofer Nannen, he had lived in Westfield for more than 40 years before moving to the Peter Becker Community in Harleysville in 1993.
Mr. Nannen had been an executive with Chemical Bank of New York for 47 years, rising from bank messenger to Executive Vice President and Treasurer, before retiring in 1974.
He graduated from Carteret High School and the Institute of Banking of Rutgers University.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Maltreder Nannen, in 1993.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth R. Nannen of Haddonfield and Herbert C. Nannen of North Wales, Pennsylvania, and five grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday, November 12, at the Bergey Funeral Home, 410 Main Street in Harleysville.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 14, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Graceland Memorial Park, Galloping Hill Road in Kenilworth.

Bridget Dubus, 92
Bridget Walsh Dubus, 92, of Bernardsville died on Monday, November 9, 1998 at her home.
Born in Dundalk County, Louth, Ireland, she came to the United States in 1926.
Mrs. Dubus had been employed by the Stursburg family at their residences in New York City and Bernardsville.
She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville for 72 years and was a member of St. Joachim and Anne Society.
She was predeceased in 1973 by her husband, Michael Dubus, whom she had married in 1930. He had been Bernardsville’s tax collector and school system treasurer for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Anne Kellerk of Mountainside; a son, Michael T. Dubus of Chester, Virginia; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A Liturgy at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help will be held today, Thursday, November 12, at 10 a.m., following 9 a.m. services at the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home in Bernardsville.

Doris E. Perego, 73, of Seattle, Washington, died on Tuesday, October 20, 1998.
Born in London, England on October 30, 1924, she moved to the United States in 1946.
She was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years. She taught in the Westfield School District for 22 years and in London for 5 years before retiring in 1993.
Surviving are a son, Robert Perego; a daughter Adrienne Underwood; three grandsons, and two great-grandchildren.

Thomas Vlismas, 72
Thomas Vlismas, 72, of Brick Township died on Sunday, November 8, 1998 at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick.
Born in New York City on June 5, 1926 to the late Anthony and Bessie Tgalate Vlismas, he had lived in the Riverdale Section of The Bronx before moving to Brick Township 20 years ago.
Mr. Vlismas had been an engineer and had worked for I.T. & T. in Nutley for 15 years before retiring in 1990.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife, Tila M. Vlismas, on February 9, 1997.
Surviving are three daughters, Ginny C. Morrissey of Westfield, Marianne Emanuele of Neshanic and Christine B. Viscido of Cranford; a sister, Mary Vlismas Rosa of Miami, Florida, and four grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be today, Thursday, November 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
A funeral service will be held tomorrow, Friday, November 13, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.

George R. Feeley, 82
George R. Feeley, 82, of Wilmington, North Carolina died on Friday, November 6, 1998 in the Cypress Pointe Health Care Center in Wilmington.
Born in East Orange, he had lived in Westfield, New Providence, Colts Neck, Boca Raton, Florida, Del Ray, Florida, and Sea Girt before moving to Wilmington.
Mr. Feeley founded the Trinity Equipment Corporation in New Jersey, which he operated for 27 years before retiring in 1966.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, where he was Captain of the tennis team and an editor of the yearbook.
He was active in professional tennis as an official and had won many amateur doubles titles with his partner, Michael Ellis.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Feeley; a son, Robert Feeley; four daughters, Carol Silvino, Patricia Grewen, Susan Knoll and Mary F. Berg; a brother, Edward Feeley; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Matthew Formato, Jr., 74
Army Veteran; Cited for Outstanding Job Performance
Matthew A. Formato, Jr., 74, of Union died on Sunday, November 8, 1998 in Union Hospital.
Born in Cleveland, he had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Union three years ago.
Mr. Formato had been a Vice President with the Carlson Marketing Company in Union for 20 years before retiring in 1994, and remained with the company after his retirement as a consultant. In 1991, he was honored with the Carlson Fellow Award for outstanding performance.
A 1943 graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, he subsequently earned a law degree from the Casey Western Reserve School of Law in Cleveland and was a member of the Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity.
Mr. Formato was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He served on the Board of Directors of the Suburban Golf Club in Union.
Surviving are three sons, Matthew Formato, 3rd, Michael Formato and Marc Formato; a daughter, Melissa Formato; a brother, Richard Formato, and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held yesterday, Wednesday, November 11, at the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Union.
Arrangements were handled by the Leonard Home for Funerals in Elizabeth.
Norman F. Brenner, 66
Norman F. Brenner, 66, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, November 8, 1998 at home.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Scotch Plains since 1963.
He had worked in maintenance for 23 years at the Union County Children’s Shelter in Elizabeth, retiring three years ago.
Mr. Brenner was a member of the All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Scotch Plains.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Merle Hirth Brenner; three sons, Gary Brenner and Glenn Brenner, both of Middlesex, and Kevin Brenner of Dunellen; two daughters, Susan D’Alessandro of Bound Brook and Christine Morris of Dunellen; two brothers, Robert Brenner of South Amboy and Jack Brenner of Nutley, and six grandchildren.
A funeral will be held today, Thursday, November 12, at 9 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by a service in All Saints’ Church at 10 a.m.
