Frank J. Hoerburger, 91, of Rahway, died on Thursday, April 23, 1998 in the Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare Network, in Westfield.
Born in New York City, he had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Rahway eight years ago.
He had been a salesman for Eastern Steel Barrel Corporation in Piscataway for more than 20 years prior to retiring in 1973.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Cariello and Carol Bottitta; a son, Raymond Hoerburger, and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home in Clark.
Frank J. Bilics, 85
Frank J. Bilics, 85, of Scotch Plains, died on Saturday, April 25, 1998 at Ashbrook Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center in Scotch Plains.
Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Elizabeth before moving to Scotch Plains in 1960.
Mr. Bilics was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Signal Corps.
He had been a sales representative at Western Electric Company in Kearny for 37 years, prior to retiring in 1976.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains and was also a member of the Scotch Plains Golden Agers and the Knights of Columbus of Westfield- Scotch Plains.
Surviving are his wife, Mary McCool Bilics; a brother, Charles Bilics, and a sister, Theresa Milden.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by a Mass at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church.
Charles Anderson
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 1998 for Charles W. Anderson at the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Mr. Anderson, a resident of Westfield, died on Thursday, March 12, at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Linnea Anderson.
Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte A. Abell of Novelty, Ohio; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was a former Chairman of the Board of Amatek Inc. of New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Specialized Hospital, Mountainside, or to The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Elizabeth Powell, 80
Elizabeth Powell, 80, of Plainfield, died on Saturday, April 25, 1998 at home.
Born in Camden, South Carolina, she had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Plainfield 60 years ago.
She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Westfield and the Plainfield Senior Citizens.
Surviving are a son, Willie Powell, Jr.; two daughters, Leanora Powell of Plainfield and Shirley Williams of Piscataway; a brother, Isaac Howard of Camden, South Carolina, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, April 30, at 1 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.
Joanne R. Sheppard, 41
Joanne Reilly Sheppard, 41, of Bayville died on Sunday, April 26, 1998 at home.
Born in Bethpage, New York, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Bayville 20 years ago.
She was a secretary for Mayor William Zimmerman, Jr. in Berkeley Township for the past five years.
Surviving are her husband, Kevin Sheppard; two sons, Jason Sheppard and Christopher Sheppard, and three sisters, Lillian Reilly of San Diego, Dee Kuchie of Avenel, and Karen Wilson of Bayville.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Mastapeter Funeral Home in Bayville.
Frank C. Comune, 71
Frank C. Comune, 71, of Middlesex Borough died on Tuesday, April 28, 1998 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.
Born in Plainfield, he had lived in Middlesex for the past 37 years.
Mr. Comune had worked in the South Plainfield Post Office prior to retiring in 1989.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army in the tank corps.
Mr. Comune was a member of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Middlesex.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Orane Comune; a daughter, Pamela Kisciras of Mountainside; a son, Mark Comune of Dunellen; a brother, Joseph Comune of Middlesex, and a sister, Anna Mandaglio of North Plainfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, May 1, at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church. Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, April 30, at the Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen.
Julia Dattner, 82
Julia Dattner, 82, of Westfield died on Monday, April 27, 1998 in Union Hospital.
Born in Elizabeth, she had moved to Westfield last year.
Mrs. Dattner had been a secretary for Inmon Ink Company in Elizabeth for 30 years prior to retiring.
She was a member of the Elizabeth Seniors and the Westfield Community Center. Mrs. Dattner was also a volunteer at the Evangel Day School and at St. Elizabeth and Elizabeth General Hospitals, all in Elizabeth.
Surviving is a son, Robert Dattner, and five grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue, in Cranford.
Helen Miller, 93
Helen Miller, 93, of Scotch Plains died on Monday, April 27, 1998 at home.
Born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, she had lived in Linden for 70 years before recently moving to Scotch Plains.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Ann Scoaf and Lois M. Parin; two sons, Rodger Miller and Robert Miller, and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, May 1, in the Werson Funeral Home in Linden.
Rev. John Nehemiah
The Reverend John Nehemiah, Jr., formerly of Scotch Plains, died on Wednesday, February 3, 1999, in Los Angeles.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores Sermons Nehemiah of Somerville; his father, John C. Nehemiah of New York; a brother, Earl Nehemiah of Scotch Plains, and a sister, Lovell Jackson of New York.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 10, at the Greater New Bethel Baptist Church in Inglewood, California.
Janet A. Cotter, 67
Janet A. Cotter, 67, of Westfield died on Tuesday, February 9, 1999 in Union Hospital.
Born in Linden, she had lived in Staten Island before moving recently to Westfield.
Mrs. Cotter had been a switchboard operator with the Cameo Answering Service in Staten Island for 15 years before retiring six months ago. Previously, she had worked as a switchboard operator for Majors Department Store in Staten Island for 15 years.
Surviving are her husband, Albert Cotter; a daughter, Laurie Chamberlin; three sons, Albert Cotter, Jr., Edward Cotter and Kenneth Cotter; a brother, Patrick Gallagher; and 11 grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 12, at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Garwood.
