Gerald T. Quinn, 68
Was Electrician At Runnells Hospital For Many Years
Gerald T. Quinn, 68, of Westfield died on Sunday, February 14, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Elizabeth before moving to Westfield in 1988.
Mr. Quinn had been an electrician at Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County in Berkeley Heights from 1983 until his retirement in 1997. He had previously worked as a terminal manager at the Youngstown Cartage Company in Elizabeth for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Dobbins; a son, Gerald J.T. Quinn; a daughter, Coleen Quinn; a stepson, Jonathan Dobbins; two stepdaughters, Melissa Padilla and Jennifer Layman; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held yesterday, Wednesday, February 17, at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment took place at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society.
Patricia Childs, 64
Hospital Nurse; Worked in Red Bank for 15 Years
Patricia West Childs, 64, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, February 13, 1999 at home.
Born in East Orange, she had lived in Monmouth Beach for more than 40 years before moving to Scotch Plains.
Mrs. Childs had been a licensed practical nurse at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank from 1967 to 1982.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert E. West in 1997, and by her second husband, Russell Childs, in 1998. Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen W. Silber of Scotch Plains, and three grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, February 16, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood. Interment was private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Angie Radano, 86
Production Worker At Silva Trim, RCA and Inland Steel
Angie Radano, 86, of South Plainfield died on Saturday, February 13, 1999 at Somerset Manor Assisted Living Facility in Somerset.
Born in Long Island City, New York, she had lived in Jersey City and in Scotch Plains before settling in South Plainfield in 1964.
Mrs. Radano had been a production worker at Silva Trim in South Plainfield, RCA in Raritan and the Inland Steel Company in Jersey City before retiring in 1977.
She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the South Plainfield Senior Citizens.
She also was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Radano, in 1993.
Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn R. Mayer of South Plainfield; a son, Anthony P. Radano of Readington; a sister, Marie Sansbury of Winter Garden, Florida; three brothers, Louis Trevison of Jersey City, Louis Lamonea of Bradley Beach and Anthony Trevison of Buena; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, February 17, at the McCriskin Home for Funerals in South Plainfield, followed by a Mass at St. Luke’s Church in North Plainfield.

George L. Nelson, 72
Was Army Sergeant; City Construction Worker In Plainfield
George L. Nelson, 72, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at home.
Born in Camden, South Carolina, he had lived in Plainfield for 50 years.
Mr. Nelson was a construction and maintenance worker for the City of Plainfield and the Plainfield Police Department for 25 years.
He was a member of the Refuge Church of Christ in Plainfield.
He was an United States Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Nelson was an anti-aircraft gunner and automobile mechanic.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel Nelson; three sons, Earl Randolph of Charlotte, North Carolina, Leron Nelson of Savannah, Georgia and John Nelson of Plainfield; six daughters, Carol Evans, Althea Nelson and Patricia Nelson, all of Plainfield, Belinda Nelson and Sharon Nelson, both of Charlotte, and Lynn Williams of Scotch Plains; five brothers, Robert Nelson, Isaac Nelson and John Nelson, all of Plainfield, and Richard Nelson and Henry Nelson, both of Camden, South Carolina; six sisters, Alberta Scott, Sophie Alston, Rosalie Harden and Janie Nelson, all of Plainfield, Louise Allen of Camden, South Carolina, and
Gertrude Nelson of Greenville, South Carolina; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 15, at the Rose of Sharon Community Church in Plainfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.
Felix Sorgee, 73
VFW Post Commander; NJ Transit Bus Operator and Supervisor
Felix Sorgee, 73, of Eufaula, Oklahoma died on Tuesday, February 9, 1999 in Muskogee Hospital in Oklahoma.
Born in Westfield, he moved to Eufaula in 1983.
Mr. Sorgee had been a bus operator and supervisor for NJ Transit for 28 years before retiring in 1983.
He served in the United States Army during World War II with the 42nd Rainbow Division, and was a member, Junior Vice Commander, Senior Vice Commander and Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8798. He also was the AU-State Post Commander from 1990 to 1992.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Lula Sorgee; two daughters, Vicky Coles and Sue Ann Webster; a son, Felix Sorgee, Jr.; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 11, in the Kelley Memorial Chapel of Black’s Funeral Home in Eufaula.
Edward E. Ard, 69
Former Councilman; Founder of Ard Real Estate Appraisals
Edward E. Ard, 69, of Scotch Plains died on Friday, February 12, 1999 at home.
Born in Buffalo, New York, he had lived in Elizabeth and Roselle before moving to Scotch Plains six years ago.
A former councilman in Roselle, Mr. Ard was the founder and Vice President of Ard Real Estate Appraisals in Clark from 1965 until 1992, when he retired.
He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Ard was a member of the Roselle Golf Club.
Surviving are three brothers, Judge John L. Ard, James J. Ard and William T. Ard, and a sister, Anne Marie Koppisch.
A Mass was offered on Tuesday, February 16, in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue in Cranford.
Irene R. Buchbauer, 85
Irene R. Buchbauer, 85, of Newton died on Thursday, February 11, 1999 in the Newton Valley View Care Center in Newton.
Born in Rahway, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Newton in 1995.
Mrs. Buchbauer, who was a beautician, had owned the Colonial Beauty Shop in Rahway for many years before retiring.
She was a foster grandparent of the Woodbridge Developmental Center.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Charles Buchbauer, and three grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, February 13, in St. Joseph’s Church in Newton.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home in Newton.
Homer Magnus, 62
Homer “Bill” Magnus, 62, of Mesa, Arizona died on Sunday, February 7, 1999 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Fanwood before moving to Mesa.
Mr. Magnus had owned Willmar Plumbing in Fanwood before retiring six years ago. He was also formerly employed as a Captain with the Elizabeth Fire Department.
He was a member of the Evangel Church in Scotch Plains and a former volunteer with SOWER (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready.
He was a veteran of the United States Marines.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Magnus, in 1995.
Surviving are his second wife, Kay Magnus; three daughters, Mary Lynne Principe of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, Tammy Pastore of Sussex and Eileen Pallini of Edison; a son, Michael Magnus of Jersey City; a sister, Elizabeth Haded of Palm Coast, Florida and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 13, at the Evangel Church. Interment was held at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Stephen F. Perry, 85
MIT Graduate; Exxon Employee Authored Patents
Stephen F. Perry, 85, of Los Gatos, California, formerly of Westfield, died on Saturday, October 24, 1998 at the Guardian of Santa Clara.
Born in Newport, New Hampshire, he had lived in Westfield for 50 years before moving to Los Gatos in 1997.
Mr. Perry was a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering.
He had worked at Exxon Research and Engineering for 40 years, during which time he authored a number of patents connected with oil refining. Mr. Perry’s work involved various assignments in Aruba, Sarnia, Canada, England and Sicily.
He was a board member of the Westfield Day Care Center for over 20 years, and sang in the Westfield Glee Club and St. Paul’s Choir.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Sylvia Purcell Perry; three sons, Thomas Gordon Perry of Toronto, Canada, Timothy Fiske Perry of Dallas, Texas, and Edwin Charles Perry of Portland, Oregon; a daughter, Susan Perry Pines of Palo Alto, California; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 14, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westfield Day Care Center, 140 Mountain Avenue, Westfield; the Organ Fund of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, East Broad Street, Westfield, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Frances Seiler, 77
Frances Seiler, 77, of Steuben, Maine, formerly of Westfield, died on Tuesday, October 27, 1998 at her home.
Born in Westfield, she moved to Maine in 1993.
Mrs. Seiler had been a telephone operator for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and AT&T; for 44 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and of the Communications Workers of America. Mrs. Seiler also was a charter member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Seiler, in 1970.
Surviving are a daughter, Frances Everett of Phillipsburg; three sons, James Seiler of Steuben, Maine, Michael Seiler of Panama City, Florida, and Patrick Seiler of Hartford, New York, and nine grandchildren.
Services were private.
