Consuelo D. Diaz, 93, of Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Ind. died on Saturday, December 11, 1999 at home.
Born on December 15, 1905 in Utado, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Jesse and Josefa Ines Quintana Buterbaugh.
She had lived in Westfield before moving to Kosciusko County in 1995.
Surviving are her husband, Rogelio V. Diaz, whom she married on October 15, 1932; three daughters, Mine Lozier of Warsaw and Ida Diaz and Jeanette Stagaard, both of Westfield; two sons, Roger Diaz and John Diaz, also of Westfield; a sister, Ida Ursulich of Virginia; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of the McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel in Warsaw.
William Brower, 69
Professor Emeritus; Taught Mathematics at NJIT for 32 Years
William Daniel Brower, 69, of Lakewood died on Saturday, December 11, 1999 in the Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood.
Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Westfield for many years before relocating to the Lions Head Woods section of Lakewood seven years ago.
Mr. Brower was a professor emeritus of mathematics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. He had taught there for 32 years before retiring in 1991.
He graduated from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City with a Bachelor of Science Degree and received a master’s degree in science from Columbia University in New York City.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Brower was associated with Alpha Phi Omega at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Phi Delta Kappa at Columbia University.
He was an usher and Eucharistic Minister with the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are his wife, Anne Brower; a daughter, Barbara J. Helm, and two sons, Mark T. Brower and Stephen T. Brower.
A Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, December 15, in St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood.
The funeral was from the D’Elia Funeral Home in Lakewood.
William J. Kennelly, 65
Was Teacher And Guidance Counselor in Belleville
William J. Kennelly, 65, of Nutley died on Thursday, December 9, 1999 in the Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Belleville for 30 years and in Westfield for 21 years before moving to Nutley.
Mr. Kennelly was a teacher and guidance counselor with the Belleville school system for 35 years.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and history from Seton Hall University in South Orange in 1957 and later received a Master of Arts Degree in education from the same school.
He was a member of the New Jersey Education Association, (NJEA) the Belleville Education Association (BEA) and the National Education Association.
Mr. Kennelly was a negotiator for the NJEA and President and Chief Negotiator for the BEA for many years.
He was a member of the Essex County Teachers Association, the Knights of Columbus in Belleville and the Mt. Carmel Church in Nutley.
He was a volunteer with the North Jersey Blood Bank in East Orange.
He was predeceased by his brother, John Kennelly, earlier this year.
Surviving are three daughters, Suzanne M. Santangelo, Kathleen Kennelly and Kara Kennelly, all of Basking Ridge; three brothers, James Kennelly of Rockville, Md. and Bernard Kennelly and Francis Kennelly, both of Coquille, Ore., and three grandchildren.
A liturgy of Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, December 14, in St. James Roman Catholic Church in Basking Ridge.
Arrangements were handled by the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, Inc. in Basking Ridge.

Mattie Mayo, 84
Retired Housekeeper; Great-Great-Grandmother of Two
Mattie P. Mayo, 84, died on Tuesday, December 7, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Greenville, N. C., she lived in Westfield for several years.
Mrs. Mayo had been a housekeeper before her retirement in 1976.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Mayo, Sr., in August; a son, David Charles Mayo, and a daughter, Della M. Burton.
Surviving are three sons,Joe Mayo, Jr. of Houston, Tex., John D. Mayo of Elizabeth and Robert Hall of New Brunswick; two daughters, Johanna Smith of Westfield and Mattie R. Clemons of Union; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 11, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Interment was at Rosehill Cemetery in Linden.
Dr. Margaret Ball, 45
Psychologist; Westfield High School Valedictorian
Dr. Margaret M. Ball, 45, of Knoxville, Tenn., died on Saturday, December 11, 1999 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
Born in Plainfield, she was raised in Westfield and lived the last 18 years in Knoxville.
She was a clinical psychologist at the Riverview Psychiatric Hospital in Knoxville.
Dr. Ball was the Valedictorian of the Westfield High School Class of 1972.
She graduated in 1976 from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics.
She earned a Doctoral Degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee in 1985.
Surviving are her husband, Stephen Ball; her parents, Angelo and Mary Del Monaco of Westfield, and a brother, John Del Monaco of Kearny.
Services were held yesterday, Wednesday, December 15, in the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be held in Knoxville.

Martha Lee McGill, 67
Was Teacher; Athlete and Member of Local Clubs
Martha Lee McGill, 67, of Cranford died on Sunday, December 12, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Baltimore, she had lived in Red Bank, Heidelberg, Germany, and Chicago before moving to Westfield 28 years ago. She relocated to Cranford in 1996.
Mrs. McGill, a teacher of history and English, had taught in Red Bank from 1953 to 1959, in Heidelberg from 1959 to 1960, then in Red Bank again in 1960 and 1961.
She had worked since 1981 as a substitute teacher in Westfield at the middle schools and the high school.
She graduated in 1953 from Dickinson College in Carlyle, Pa., with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Arts.
While in college, Mrs. McGill was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, the Microcosm yearbook staff, the Dickinsonian newspaper, the Little Theater, the Union Philosophical Society, the Student Senate, the Orientation Committee and the Women’s Athletic Association.
She participated in field hockey, volleyball, basketball and softball, and was Captain of the bowling team.
She was awarded the Junior White Blazer as the most outstanding female athlete.
Mrs. McGill was President of the Dickinson College Class of 1953 Alumni Association and the reunion organizer for the class.
She was a former President of the Westfield Day Care Center, a former board member of the Westfield Police Athletic League, and was active for many years with the Westfield Boosters, the Welcome Wagon and the Newcomers Club.
She was a member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband, Charles McGill; a daughter, Lori Swanson of Westfield; two sons, Jeffrey McGill of Dubuque, Iowa and Stuart McGill of Newton; her mother, Charlotte Wright Weis of Westfield; a sister, Carol Lee Allebaugh of Westfield, and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Association for Retarded Citizens or to the American Cancer Society.

Executive; Active With Athletic Booster Club
Edward J. Herrmann, 48, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, December 12, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Bayonne, he had lived there before moving to Scotch Plains 23 years ago.
Mr. Herrmann was Vice President of Design and Consulting with Central Parking in New York City.
He was a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology in New York City.
He was active with the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Athletic Booster Club.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Bartolomeo Herrmann; two daughters, Debbie Herrmann and Kerri
Hermann; a son, David Herrmann; his mother, Mary Ellen Gallagher Herrmann.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, December 15, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood, followed by a Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.

Sheila Miner, 67
Former Teacher; Was Docent at Craft Museum
Sheila Miner, 67, of Westfield died on Friday, December 10, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., Mrs. Miner had lived in New York City before moving to Westfield 36 years ago.
She had been a docent with the American Craft Museum in New York City for many years before retiring in 1994.
She had previously been an elementary school teacher in the New Rochelle school system for 10 years.
Mrs. Miner was awarded a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Vermont Burlington in 1953.
She was predeceased by her father, Alan Levine.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Miner; two daughters, Erica Ann Hyman of Allentown, Pa. and Nancy Jo Marciniak of Bradenton, Fla.; a son, Julian Miner of Scarsdale, N.Y.; her mother, Estabel Levine of Mountainside, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, December 12, at Temple Emanu-El in Westfield. Interment was at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin.
Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

Doris E. Messler, 80
Doris Ellen Messler, 80, of North Plainfield died on Monday, December 13, 1999 at McCutchen Nursing Home in North Plainfield.
Born in Plainfield on April 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Christine Marienscheck Sutton.
She had lived in Scotch Plains and then in Westfield for 35 years before moving to North Plainfield.
Mrs. Messler had been an executive secretary for Magnus Chemical Company in Garwood for 25 years before retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert Messler, in 1973.
Surviving are her sister, Alice Rosania of Flemington; a niece, Barbara Jo Bianco of Stockton, and a nephew, William Sutton, 3rd of New Providence.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered yesterday, Wednesday, December 15, at the Holy Trinity Church.
Interment was at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen.

Dorothy Kirkley, 72
Y Director; Was Recipient of Congressional Award
Dorothy Kirkley, 72, of Westfield died on Friday, December 10, 1999 in Rahway Hospital.
Born in Glen Ridge, she had lived in East Orange before moving to Westfield in 1976.
Mrs. Kirkley had worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Bloomfield and other locations for many years before retiring in 1977.
She graduated from Kean Univer sity in Union.
Mrs. Kirkley was the outreach director for the Westfield Y and directed the Westfield High School Awareness Club, for which she received a Congressional award for public service.
Mrs. Kirkley was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Westfield Neighborhood Council and a licensed substitute teacher.
She was a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Westfield and founded the annual Martin Luther King Day in Westfield with three other town residents.
She was also a member of the Sarah Allen Missionary Society in Cranford.
Surviving are three daughters, Leona Flake, Kim Kirkley and Karen Kirkley; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held yesterday, Wednesday, December 15, at St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church in Cranford.
Arrangements were handled by the Suburban Home of Cotton Funeral Service in Orange.
