BESSIE FISHER GREEN KIRSCHNER, 71, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Asbury Park, died Jan. 11 at the Medical Center of Ocean, Brick Township. Born in Long Branch, she resided in Asbury Park before moving to Point Pleasant six years ago. She was employed at Fisher’s Grocery Store, Asbury Park, where she assisted her mother for several years. She was a former member of Congregation Sons of Israel, Asbury Park. She was a former member of the Young at Heart Club, and the Democratic Club, Asbury Park. She was predeceased by her husband, Irving Kirschner, in 2002; her first husband, Jacob Green, in 1969; and her son, Ira K. Green, in 1985. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Fisher of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township and Tinton Falls; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Interment

LESTER ROGERS, 97, of Sea Bright died Jan. 14 at his son’s home in Long Branch. Born in Sea Bright, he resided there with his son and daughter-in-law for 35 years. Mr. Rogers was a self-employed commercial fisherman, retiring 17 years ago. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Reynolds Rogers, in 1973; a daughter, Edna Layton, in 1999; a son, Lester Rogers, in 2002; and two grandchildren. He is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert and Maria Rogers of Long Branch, Thomas and Barbara Rogers of Wrightstown, and Barbara Rogers of the West Keansburg section of Hazlet; a son-in-law, Charles Layton of Highlands; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
PATRICIA SHANLEY MUHLON, 56, of Hazlet died Jan. 19 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, after a battle with cancer. Born in Queens, N.Y., she resided in Hazlet the past 30 years. She was a processing manager at Weichert Realtors, Middletown, for more than 15 years. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. She enjoyed time and travel with her family, singing, rooting for the Yankees, and the arts. She was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Marshall Brooks, and a sister, Maureen Lepre. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Frank Muhlon of Hazlet; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jodi Ann and David Altamura of Manalapan, and Trisha Muhlon of Red Bank; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Frank and Sheetal Muhlon of Holmdel, and Keith Muhlon of Hazlet; two sisters, her twin, Pamela Sanito of Lynbrook, N.Y., and Marsha Radcliffe of Tannersville, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel.
MAE L. PETRY DeROCKER, 84, of Holmdel died July 28 at King James Nursing Home, Middletown. Born in Kearny, she resided in Hazlet and Middletown prior to moving to Holmdel. She was a sales clerk at Bradlees, Hazlet, for 18 years, retiring in 1981. She was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach, where she was a member of the Golden Age Seniors Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert J. DeRocker, in 1981; and a son, William H. DeRocker, in 1987. She is survived by her son, George A. DeRocker of Middletown; her daughter, Karen M. DeRocker of Red Bank; her sister, Edna Conn of Clearwater, Fla.; and two grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial

ELIJAH "SLICK" JENKINS SR., 67, of Freehold died July 20 in a fire at Walter J. Conley Elks Lodge No. 1379, Freehold. Born in Waynesboro, Ga., he was a resident of Freehold for more than 50 years. He was caretaker of the Walter J. Conley Elks Lodge, and a former employee at Silvert’s Furniture Store, Freehold. He was a life member and trustee of Walter J. Conley Elks Lodge No. 1379, and enjoyed cooking and serving meals to Lodge members. He is survived by three sons, Darryl Jenkins of Leesburg, Fla., Rodney Jenkins of Freehold, and Daniel Crudup of Lakewood; four daughters, Debbi Jenkins of Long Branch, Michelle Jenkins of Farmingdale and Sheila Crudup and Diparah Dixon-Jenkins, both of Freehold; two brothers, Elike Jenkins and Nathan Wesby, both of Freehold; six sisters, Lena Hoffman of Philadelphia, Essie Oglesby of Englishtown, Elizabeth Williams of Farmingdale, Carrie Jenkins of Lakewood, Martha Wiggins of Virginia Beach, Va., and Rose Edwards of Freehold; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. HARRY H. NOWLAND, 72, of Long Branch, died July 21 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Neptune, he resided in Asbury Park prior to moving to Long Branch. He was a professional sign artist at McLain Studios Inc., Asbury Park, for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He was also a part-time handyman. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was predeceased by his brother, Clifford A. Nowland; and three sisters, Elsie Pagionia, Betty Ianniciella and Ruth Corcione. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Nowland. Burial

JENNIE DiANGELO CARUSO, 95, of Long Branch died July 22 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Maddaloni, Italy, she came to the United States in 1921, and resided in Newark prior to moving to Long Branch in 1954. She was a member of the Long Branch Seniors. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Caruso in 1984. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ramon and Anne Caruso of Long Branch, and Fred and Deborah Caruso of Santa Monica, Calif.; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. RENEÈ J. PICCHINI WALKER, 43, of Long Branch died July 22 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in South Amboy, she resided in Morgan and Matawan before moving to Long Branch seven years ago. Mrs. Walker was a senior technical staff member at AT&T, Middletown, the past 14 years. She was a teacher of religious education at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy, an officer with the Catholic Youth Organization, and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 226, Ocean. She also volunteered at area hospitals and churches. Mrs. Walker was predeceased by her father, Primo T. Picchini, in 1995. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Mark D. Walker; her mother, Margaret Picchini of Matawan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Renny and Melissa Picchini of York, Pa., and Lt. Cmdr. Ted Picchini, U.S. Navy, and Carol Picchini of Moorpark, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial

EVELYN V. KASCH JANECZKO, 89, of Neptune died March 10 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Hoboken, she resided in Highlands prior to moving to Neptune. Mrs. Janeczko was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter J. Janeczko, in 1974. She is survived by her son, Walter J. Janeczko of Rumson.
CRAIG MATTHEW ABBES, 35, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died March 11 at home. Born in Red Bank, he was a lifelong resident of the Middletown/Port Monmouth area. A telephone technician, he was a communicant of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Laurie L. Copple Abbes of Port Monmouth; his parents, Ronald C. and Sandra Craig Abbes of the Lincroft section of Middletown; two daughters, and sons, Kiley, Aubrey, Craig Jr. and Peter Abbes, all of Port Monmouth; three sisters, S. Carolyn Pelton of Toms River, Cheryl Kunze of Virginia Beach, Va., and Diane Costes of Alamo, Calif.; his brother, Ronald Abbes Jr. of Danville, Calif.; and his grandmothers, Gertrude Abbes of Holmdel and Alice Craig of Martinez, Calif.
