Walter L. Stember, 76
Walter L. Stember, 76, of Delray Beach, Florida, died Friday, June 11, 1999 in the Boca Raton Community Hospital in Boca Raton, Florida.
Born in Brooklyn, he had lived in Roselle, Westfield and North Plainfield before moving to Delray Beach three years ago.
Mr. Stember was a lumber consultant and independent sales representative in the New Jersey metropolitan area for many years.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a heavy machine gunner and cannon operator, serving in northern France and Germany. Mr. Stember received a medal for participation in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign.
Surviving are his wife Natalie Stember; two sons, Scott Stember and Jeff Stember; two brothers, Joel Stember and Cyrus Stember, and a grandchild.
Arrangements were handled by A. Cremation Service of The Palm Beaches in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Albert Holland, Jr., 87
Oral Surgeon; Maintained Practice in Chatham
Dr. Albert Olaf Holland, Jr., 87, died on Saturday, March 27, 1999 at his home in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
Born in Bayonne on February 4, 1912, he had lived in Roselle Park and in Westfield before moving to Massachusetts.
Dr. Holland maintained a private oral surgery practice in Chatham, Massachusetts. He had previously been in private practice in Roselle Park from 1938 to 1955, when he opened a new practice in Westfield. He maintained his office there until 1974.
He was an instructor at Cape Cod Community College in Hyannis, Massachusetts in 1975 and 1976.
He was also a member of the New Jersey and Massachusetts Dental Associations.
A Master Mason with the Free and Accepted Masons for more than 50 years, Dr. Holland was also Past President of the Rotary International Club of Westfield and a member of the Rotary International Club of Chatham, Massachusetts.
He additionally was a member of the Chatham Men's Club and a past board member of the Orleans Convalescent and Retirement Center in Orleans, Massachusetts.
He was also Past Chairman of the House Committee and a member of the Eastward Ho! Country Club, and was a member of the Monomoy Yacht Club, both of Cape Cod.
Dr. Holland graduated from Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, and from the Temple University Dental School in Philadelphia. He earned a degree in pediatric dentistry from the Forsythe School for Dentistry in Boston.
He served as a dentist in the United States Navy during World War II, holding the rank of Lieutenant.
Dr. Holland was a past member of the First United Methodist Church in Westfield and a member of the First Congregational Church of Chatham, Massachusetts.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Louise Holland; two daughters, Bette Ann Howard of Saunderstown, Rhode Island and Mary Louise Dana of Hardwick; a son, Albert Olaf Holland, 3rd of Lafayette; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 10, at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Chatham.

Olis M. Williams, 74

Olis M. Williams, 74, of Westfield died on Monday, March 29, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Rawlings, Virginia, she attended school in Brunswick County, Virginia and moved to Westfield in 1947.
Miss Williams was a member and usher at the Bethel Baptist Church in Westfield and a former member of Martha's Chapel No. 8 Order of the Eastern Star of Westfield and Daughter Elks of Westfield.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest Williams, James Williams and Ruffin Williams.
Surviving are a son, Oris Williams of Plainfield; five sisters, Maggie Ridley and Dorothy Coleman, both of Plainfield, Venati Cabiness of Alberta, Virginia, Etta Coleman of Hyattsville, Maryland, and Rosa Hall of Scotch Plains, and a grandson.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 5, at the Bethel Baptist Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Plinton-Curry Funeral Home in Westfield.
Jean Haertlein, 74
Earned Tufts Degree; Actress and Director in Theater Groups
Jean Heilich Haertlein, 74, of Rossmoor in Jamesburg, died on Tuesday, March 16, 1999 at Princeton Medical Center.
Born in Elizabeth she had lived in Westfield from 1950 to 1978 before moving to Solon, Ohio. She and her husband later relocated to Jamesburg.
She was a 1945 graduate of Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, with a degree in chemistry.
Mrs. Haertlein was a involved with local theater groups as an actress and director. She was a member of the Westfield Community Players and the College Woman's Club of Westfield's Children's Theatre. In Ohio, she was a member of the Solon Players.
She was also a charter member of the Highland Swim Club in Scotch Plains, and a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, John Haertlein; two sons, Jeffrey Haertlein of Scotch Plains and Bruce Haertlein of Mendham; three daughters, Barbara Haertlein and Patricia Haertlein, both of Lebanon, and Carol Haertlein of Portland, Oregon; a brother, Arthur Heilich of Clark, and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel in New Brunswick.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at the Meeting House at Rossmoor.

Robert O. Bogart, 88, of Westfield died on Thursday, April 1, 1999 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Cranford and Roselle before moving to Westfield 53 years ago.
Mr. Bogart had been a salesman with Industrial Office Supply in Livingston for 18 years before retiring in 1982. Earlier, he had owned Bogart's Gift Center in Union.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, participating in the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Bogart; a son, Robert L. Bogart, and a sister, Virginia Fifield.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 3, in the Werson Funeral Home in Linden.
Anita F Eilbacher, 81
Anita F. Palermo Eilbacher, 81, of Mountainside died on Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in New Providence, she was raised in Linden and had lived in Colonia for 20 years before moving to Mountainside 10 years ago.
Mrs. Eilbacher had been a corporate secretary for N. M. Palermo Inc., a real estate and insurance business in Linden and Westfield, for 35 years before retiring in 1991.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gerard F. Eilbacher.
Surviving is a son, Paul G. Eilbacher of Westfield; a daughter, Jo-Ann E. Szabo of San Diego, California, and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, April 5, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment took place at St. Teresa's Cemetery in Summit.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Mountainside First Aid Squad.

John H. Woerner, Jr., 65, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at home.
Born in Plainfield, he had lived in Scotch Plains since 1948.
He owned and operated Woerner Plumbing & Heating in Scotch Plains for 30 years.
Mr. Woerner was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are his wife, Anne May Woerner; four sons, JohnH.Woerner, 3rd and Joseph S. Woerner, both of Scotch Plains, Jeffrey M. Woerner of Dunellen and Michael R. Woerner of Green Brook; five daughters, Margaret A. Frei of Newfoundland, Mary K. Allmer of Harmony, Joeann DiNizio of Phillipsburg, Jeanne M. Woerner of Green Brook and Anna Anderson of Bound Brook; a sister, Barbara Bowman of Scotch Plains, and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 2, at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Plainfield.
