Mary A. Johnson, 102, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at the Ashbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotch Plains.
Born on January 10, 1897 in Matawan, she had lived in Florida and New York before moving to Scotch Plains in 1990.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Johnson, in 1954.
Surviving are her daughter, Dorothy Johnson Lehlbach; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 1, at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by a Liturgy at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church.
Russell Baker, 67
Former Employee At Southwestern Bell and Sprint
Russell E. Baker, 67, of Ormond by the Sea, Florida, died on Saturday, March 6, 1999 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Born in Westfield, he had lived in Dallas, Texas, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Kansas City, Missouri before moving to Ormond by the Sea.
Mr. Baker was an employee at Southwestern Bell and Sprint.
He was a Navy Chief Petty Officer from 1952 to 1956.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Baker of Ormond by the Sea; three daughters, Bonnie Brown of Naperville, Illinois, Susan Baker of Dallas, Texas, and Nancy Calarco of Denver, Colorado; a son, Scott Baker of Allen, Texas, and four grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Volusia Memorial Funeral Home in Ormond by the Sea.
Graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery tomorrow, Friday, April 9, at 12 p.m.

Matthew Frame, 83
Army Veteran; Former Truck Driver For Gidding's
Matthew E. Frame, 83, of Scotch Plains died on Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at home.
Born in New York City, he had lived in Plainfield before moving to Scotch Plains in 1978.
Mr. Frame had been a truck driver for Gidding's in Plainfield before retiring 20 years go. Prior to that, he had worked for the Fanwood Post Office.
He was a United States Army veteran and served in World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Sosnosky Frame, in 1975.
Surviving are two sons, Edward T. Frame and Gerald M. Frame, and a grandson.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 3, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood. Interment took place at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Memorial donations may be made to the Scotch Plains Fire Department or to the Scotch Plains Rescue Squad.
Larisa J. Kabara, 23
Larisa J. Kabara, 23, of Union died on Thursday, April 1, 1999 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
Born in New Brunswick, she had lived in Toledo, Ohio and in Piscataway before moving to Union in 1996.
Ms. Kabara was a volunteer with the Hyacinth Foundation in New Brunswick.
She was a 1993 graduate of Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner.
Surviving are her son, Kyi Greenaway of Union; her mother and step-father, Donna and Christopher Powers of Union; her father, Chester Kabara of Hopewell; a sister, Christina Powers of Union, and her grandparents, Roy and Barbara Franklin of Ronkonkoma, New York, Chester and Joan Kabara of Old Bridge, and E. Beverly Powers of Scotch Plains.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 3, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Hyacinth Foundation, 78 New Street, New Brunswick, 08901.
H. Lawton Taylor, 89
Army Veteran; Former Horticulturist At Area Florists
H. Lawton Taylor, 89, of Stuart, Florida, died on Saturday, April 3, 1999 while visiting family in Coral Springs, Florida.
Born on August 13, 1909, in Westfield, he moved to Stuart in 1980.
Mr. Taylor was a horticulturalist with Vance Florist and another florist shop in Westfield.
He had attended Rutger's University.
Mr. Taylor was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie Taylor; his son, Richard Lawton Taylor; his daughter, Nancy Ahringer; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held today, Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart.
Helen Ten Eyck, 89
Retired Professor At Union County College; High Schools
Helen Farrow Ten Eyck, 89, of Plainfield, died on Saturday, April 3, 1999 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Canajoharie, New York, she had lived in Westfield before settling in Plainfield in 1986.
Mrs. Ten Eyck was a teacher at Schoharie, Central School in Schoharie, New York from 1934 to 1936. She was a Somerville High School teacher from 1936 to 1938. She began teaching part-time at Union County College in 1960 before teaching full time in 1963.
She was promoted to assistant professor in 1969, and associate professor in 1974.
She retired from fulltime teaching in 1975, but continued part-time teaching until 1983.
Mrs. Ten Eyck was a member of First United Methodist Church of Westfield for 60 years, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Scotch Plains since 1986.
She was also a member of the Young Women's Christian Association in Plainfield and the College Woman's Club of Westfield. She taught exercise classes for several years.
She was a 1927 graduate of Westfield High School and received her bachelor's degree with high honors from Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, in 1932.
Mrs. Ten Eyck received her master's degree from Syracuse University, New York, in 1934, and received a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) from Wesleyan University, Middleton, Connecticut, in 1973.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles T. Farrow, in 1982.
Surviving are her husband, Franklin T. Ten Eyck of Plainfield; a son, Peter Farrow of Port Orchard, Washington; three daughters, Linda Farrow of Philadelphia, Nancy Harris of South Portland, Maine, and Carol Karson of Langdon, New Hampshire; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, in Fanwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Union County College.
Patricia Swearer, 65
Patricia Swearer, 65, of Westfield died on Sunday, April 4, 1999 in the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Newark, she had moved to Westfield in 1968.
Mrs. Swearer was a secretary with the Arlen Trophy Co. in North Plainfield for 10 years before retiring in 1964.
She was a member of the Cranford Court 34 Order of the Amaranth, the Mount Zion Chapter No. 118 Order of Eastern Star in Metuchen, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the South Plainfield Rescue Squad.
Surviving is her husband, Robert D. Swearer as well as several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in the Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home in Rahway.
