John E. Bell, 81
John E. Bell, 81, of Toms River died on Friday, October 8, 1999 in the Community Medical Center in Toms River.
Born in Newark, he lived in Westfield before moving to Toms River.
Mr. Bell was the owner of New Raritan Liquors in Keansburg for 20 years before retiring in 1979.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his son, Dr. John E. Bell, and five grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, October 13, in St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield.
James W. Rebuth, 57
Former Owner Of JR Consulting for Many Years
James W. Rebuth, 57, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, October 14, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Floral Park, N.Y., he grew up in North Plainfield. He had lived in South Plainfield for 20 years and Scotch Plains for the past year.
Mr. Rebuth owned JR Consulting for more than 20 years.
He was a former member of the South Plainfield Jr. Baseball Club, where he was a longtime team manager and coach.
Surviving are his daughter, Sherrill Rebuth-Machcinski of Jackson; a son, Shane Rebuth of South Plainfield; his parents, Ralph and Janet Rebuth of Scotch Plains; three sisters, Barbara Malone of North Carolina, Susan D’Alessandro and Marianne Aiello, both of South Plainfield; two brothers, Michael Rebuth of Scotch Plains and Richard Rebuth of Miami, Fla., and two grandsons.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 16, at the McCriskin Home for Funerals in South Plainfield. Interment took place at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Frank C. Hauser, 77
Frank C. Hauser, 77, died on Saturday, October 16, 1999 in Rahway Hospital.
Born and raised in Irvington, he lived in Westfield for the last 45 years.
Mr. Hauser was a United States Air Corps veteran of World War II and served as a Corporal with the 360th Fighter Group during the campaigns of Air Offensive Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland.
He worked in the sales department of Westinghouse Electrical Corporation in Bloomfield for 42 years, retiring in 1983.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa Richetti Hauser; a daughter, Patricia A. Bjorklund of Warren, and two grandsons.
A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 19, at the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield. Interment was held at Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth.

Winifred M. Merkle, 64
Was Employed As Registered Nurse at Overlook Hospital
Winifred M. Merkle, 64, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, October 17, 1999 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Union before moving to Scotch Plains in 1965.
Mrs. Merkle graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Newark in 1955. She was a Registered Nurse. She worked at Overlook Hospital in Summit as an Operating Room Nurse; the Burlington County Visiting Nurses Association; Rubberset Company in Newark as an Industrial Nurse; Residential Home Care Nursing in Union County as a Visiting Nurse, and most recently at Fair Oaks/Charter Hospital in Summit as a Psychiatric Nurse.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Westfield and the Alumni Association of the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Newark.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. F. Henry Merkle; her mother, Margaret Broeker; two daughters, Lisa A. Koley and Amy E. McElrath; her son, Frederick B. Merkle; a sister, Marlene Wirth of Scotch Plains, and two granddaughters.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 23, at 10 a.m.
Arrangements are being handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood.

George Germinder, 92
George J. Germinder, 92, of Fanwood died on Monday, October 18, 1999 at the Clark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clark.
Born in Dickson City, Pa., he lived in Elizabeth before moving to Fanwood in 1953.
Mr. Germinder was a woodworker with Reisen Lumber Company in Union, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of the Carpenters Union No. 821 in Kenilworth.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille Germinder, in 1985.
Surviving are two sons, George E. Germinder and Robert Germinder, both of Fanwood; a sister, Anna Trippeidi of Yuma, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, today, Thursday, October 21, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Martine Avenue, Scotch Plains, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Rosedale Memorial Park in Linden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fanwood Rescue Squad or a charity of one’s choice.
Daniel A. Buonanno, 75
Daniel A. Buonanno, 75, a lifelong resident of Westfield, died on Friday, October 15, 1999 at home.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Buonanno worked for many years for the United States Postal Service in Westfield at various positions before retiring many years ago.
Surviving are two brothers, Ralph Buonanno of Toms River and Rudy Buonanno of Garwood; and a sister, Madeline Buonanno of Westfield.
A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, October 19, in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Peter Francaviglia, 76
Peter Charles Francaviglia, 76, of Westfield died on Saturday, October 16, 1999 in Elizabeth General Hospital in Elizabeth.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was raised in Elizabeth and lived in Rahway before moving to Westfield in 1953.
Mr. Francaviglia was a machinist and group leader at Singer Manufacturing, Inc. in Elizabeth for 43 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a United States Navy veteran of both Korean War and World War II.
Mr. Francaviglia was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Singer’s Veterans Association and the John L. Ruddy Post No. 7363 Veterans of Foreign War in Clark.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine Francaviglia; a daughter, Roseanne Pielhau; three sons, Peter Charles Francaviglia, Jr., Mark Francaviglia and David Francaviglia, and a grandchild.
A Funeral Liturgy was held on Monday, October 18, at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth.

Kenneth E. Williams, 76
Army Veteran; Founded Williams Termite Control, Inc.
Kenneth Edward Williams, 76, of Sarasota, Fla. died on Sunday, October 17, 1999.
Born in Raleigh, N.C., he lived in Elizabeth and Flemington before moving to Sarasota 10 years ago.
Mr. Williams founded Williams Termite Control, Inc. in 1961.
He attended Union County College in New Jersey.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.
Mr. Williams served as Secretary of the New Jersey Pest Control Association for many years.
He was also a gun collector with an extensive collection of Smith and Wesson firearms and served as Secretary for the New Jersey Arms Collector’s Club.
He was a life member of Kiwanis International and was responsible for the formation of both the Westfield and Scotch Plains clubs.
He was President of the Westfield Kiwanis Club in 1961 and Lieutenant Governor for his district in 1965.
Mr. Williams was also a member of the Antique Toy Collectors of America.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Alice S. Williams; two sons, Kenneth E. Williams of Ringoes and Keith E. Williams of Summerland Key, Fla.; a daughter, Lynda Miller of Sarasota; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service was offered on Tuesday, October 19, at Palms Funeral Home in Sarasota. Burial was held at Palms Memorial Park.
