James L. Duncan Sr.
Mr. Duncan, 68, of Naples, Fla., died Oct. 26 at his son’s home in Weston, Fla. Born in Long Branch, he resided in Eatontown for 25 years before moving to Naples in 1993. Mr. Duncan was a retired route salesman at Drake’s Bakery, where he was employed 25 years. He was a former member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Red Bank. He was a former member of the Teamsters, and was a Pop Warner football coach. Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife of 43 yeas, Carol Spreen Duncan; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Lily Duncan of Naples, Fla., and James and Diane Duncan Jr. of Weston, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Michael Matthews of Brielle; and four grandchildren. Interment

Marie E. Kantor
Mrs. Kantor, 81, of West Long Branch, died Oct. 31 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She and her husband were the former owners of a family photo studio in West Long Branch. She was also a supervisor at Electronic Associates, West Long Branch, retiring after more than 20 years’ service. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank M. Kantor, in September; two brothers, Edward and Buddy Stein; and two sisters, Rose and Margaret. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael D. and Alice Kantor of Oceanport, and Richard A. and Barbara Kantor of Merry Point, Va.; a brother, Adam Stein; four sisters, Gertrude Day, Dory Schwiegrath, Bobbie Lauer and Kathleen Zahn; and two grandchildren. Herbert G. Gerding Jr.
Mr. Gerding, 69, of Rumson, died Nov. 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Algonac, Mich., he had lived in Fair Haven before moving to Rumson 42 years ago. Mr. Gerding was a craftsman at Fair Haven Yacht Works for several years. He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Jeannette Kristiansen Gerding, in July; a brother, Carl; and a sister, Carole. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Herbert G. and Rose Gerding III of Long Branch; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Rick Case of Tinton Falls; and three sisters, Betty Gerding of Pennsylvania, Vivian McCoach of New York, and Maggie Franco of Washington. A memorial service was held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
Angelina M. “Ann” Mancuso
Mrs. Mancuso, 87, of Red Bank, died Nov. 13 at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in New York City, she resided in Toms River prior to moving to Red Bank five years ago. She was a retired department manager at Steinbach’s, Red Bank. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was a member of the Garden Club at Silver Ridge Park, Toms River. She enjoyed reading, and the theater. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Mancuso in 1999; a son, Patrick; and a brother, Michael Damato. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas E. and Dana Mancuso of Oceanport, and Fred J. and Sue Mancuso of Rumson; a daughter, Joan L. Mancuso of Oceanport; a sister, Lucille Barreca of Long Island, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial

Helen D. Noumair
Mrs. Noumair, 83, of Asbury Park, died Nov. 11 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Asbury Park, she resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bergen County before moving back to the Monmouth County area in 1968. Before her retirement, Mrs. Noumair was the recreation director at Macy’s, New York City, where she was responsible for 10, 000 employees. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Deal, where she was a Eucharistic minister and reader at Mass. She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Asbury Park and a former president of the club’s board of trustees. She also was a volunteer for the Bergen County Executive Council, a Girl Scout troop leader, president of the Woman’s Club of Allendale, and was active with the American Red Cross. Mrs. Noumair was predeceased by her first husband, Martin E. Husing, in 1967. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Edward Noumair of Deal; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret Husing Katz and Richard Katz of Tinton Falls, Janice Marie and Alan Husing-Gentry Rushforth of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and Diane Noumair Belloit and Nick Belloit of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Patty Noumair of Patterson, N.Y., and Edward and Pamela Noumair of Howell; and four grandchildren. Clifford Whiteside
Mr. Whiteside, 70, of Tinton Falls died March 3 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Prior to moving to Tinton Falls, he lived in Sterling Heights, Mich., and Shrewsbury. Mr. Whiteside was an electrician for General Motors in Detroit, Mich., for 40 years. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Sal E. Tieri Jr., who died on Sept. 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Lilian (née Hamilton); a son and daughter-in-law, Clifford T. and Cheryl Whiteside of Sterling Heights, Mich.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Catherine E. and William Licht of Cortland, Ohio, Patricia E. and Craig of South Lake, Texas, and Maureen A. Tieri of Shrewsbury; four sisters; two brothers; and 11 grandchildren. A memorial gathering was held at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Interment

Pietro Russo
Mr. Russo, 85, of Holmdel died March 6 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Bagnoli Irpino, Italy, he had resided in Jersey City before moving to Holmdel seven years ago. He was a butcher for Tuscany Co., Union City, where he had worked for 25 years before retiring. Mr. Russo was predeceased by a daughter, Grace Chieffo. Surviving are his wife, Gelsomina Chieffo Russo; two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Charles Stean of Red Bank, and Pierina and John Gazonas of Florida; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, followed by entombment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.
Joseph T. Vanni
Mr. Vanni, 84, of South Amboy died March 1 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Prior to his retirement in 1979, he was employed for 33 years as supervisor and inventory management specialist at Fort Monmouth. Surviving are his wife, Marie Penta Vanni; a son, Thomas Vanni of South Amboy; a daughter, Lorraine Easton of Bridgewater; a brother, Francis Vanni, and two sisters, Mary Vanni and Anna Vanni, all of South Amboy; a granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Entombment was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church.
Dennis T. Spencer
Mr. Spencer, 47, of Hamilton, died March 2 at Capitol Healthcare System, Trenton. He was a former resident of Red Bank and attended the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. Mr. Spencer was a truck driver with Eastern Armored Car Service of Trenton and had previously worked for the United Parcel Service, Tinton Falls, for 15 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid sportsman. Mr. Spencer was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary Corbett Spencer. He is survived by his former wife, Deborah Hawke Spencer, a son, Tyler H., and a daughter, Courtney W., all of Wayne, Pa.; three brothers, John P. and his wife, Kelly, of Toms River, Kevin M. of Red Bank, and Timothy E. and his wife, Colleen, of Little Silver; two sisters, Maureen A. Butler and her husband, Allen, of Phoenix, and Bonnie J. Morris and her husband, Chad, of Brielle; and eight nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial

Hartwell "Hart" Keene Webber
Mr. Webber, 91, of Red Bank died March 5. He was born in Pittsfield, Mass. He taught music in 14 different schools throughout Vermont and New Hampshire, prior to working as a disc jockey for a country-western radio station in Burlington, Vt. He was a sergeant in the Army Signal Corps from 1942 to 1946, which brought him to Fort Monmouth, where he worked as a civilian environmental engineer after World War II. He served on the Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) for more than 40 years, relaying messages overseas from military personnel to their families. Mr. Webber served on the Red Bank Zoning Board of Adjustments and was active in civic affairs. He was predeceased by his wife, Clarina "Sherry" Petraglia. He is survived by a brother, Donald, of Pittsfield, Mass.; three daughters, Claire Heil of Ridge, N.Y., Jane Webber of Bernardsville, and Carol Williams of Warren, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mary “Doris” Zemla
Mrs. Zemla, 77, of Old Bridge, died Nov. 8 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in Irvington prior to moving to Old Bridge 23 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a past member of the PTA at Irvington Elementary School. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Zemla; and a sister, Anastasia Gueci. Rose Czech
Mrs. Czech, of Middletown, died Oct. 18 at Brighton Gardens, Middletown. Born in Nanticoke, Pa., she resided in Jersey City and Shadow Lake Village before moving to Brighton Gardens four years ago. Mrs. Czech was a homemaker. Prior to that, she was employed in New York City for 25 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul, Jersey City, where she was a member of its Sisterhood of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter B. Czech, in 1974; and a brother, Mitchell Walkowitz, in 1976. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Dominick Cerchio of Red Bank, and Nancy and Dennis O’Melia of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister, Eleanor Yaga of McKeesport, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
