Phyllis K. Hoos, 96
Phyllis K. Conrad Hoos, 96, of Middletown died on Thursday, July 13, 2000 in the King James Care Center in Middletown.
Born in White Cloud, Ind. on July 6, 1904, she had lived in Westfield for 20 years and in Green Brook for 40 years before moving to Middletown a year and a half ago.
She was a homemaker. A graduate of the Indiana Central Normal School, Mrs. Hoos had taught in a one-room school house in Cordydon, Ind. for several years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Westfield for more than 50 years.
She was predeceased by her father, William Conrad, and by her husband, C. Elden Hoos, in 1959.
Surviving are a son, Charles E. Hoos of Sea Bright; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services took place at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Inc. in Red Bank. Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Izydora Focht, 81
Izydora Focht, 81, of Dunnellon, Fla. died on Monday, March 27, 2000 in Williston Hospital in Dunnellon.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Westfield and in Columbia before moving to Dunnellon 10 years ago.
Mrs. Focht served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Surviving are a son, Albert Focht; a daughter, Phyllis Miller, and four grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, April 1, in St. Adalbert’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth, following the funeral from the Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home in Clark.
Tina Weinberg, 103
Tina Weinberg of Scotch Plains, who turned 103 on July 30, 2000 died on Wednesday, March 29, in the Ashbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotch Plains.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Elizabeth and Springfield before recently moving to Scotch Plains.
Mrs. Weinberg was a life member of Hadassah, Deborah and the Sisterhood of Temple B’Nai Israel, all of Elizabeth.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Stanley Weinberg; a sister, Mildred Kaye; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Thursday, March 30, at the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
James Slocum, Jr., 55
James H. Slocum, Jr., 55, of Oceanport died on Thursday, March 30, 2000 at the Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Red Bank.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Cranford before moving to Oceanport 15 years ago.
Mr. Slocum had been a site manager with the Morton Division of the Rohm & Hass Corporation in New Egypt and retired from E. I. Du Pont de Nemours in Parlin after 26 years as a chemical engineer.
He was a 1967 graduate of the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
He was a communicant of St. Dorothea Roman Catholic Church in Eatontown.
He was predeceased by his father, James H. Slocum, Sr.
Surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen Griffin; a son, Michael T. Slocum of Oceanport; his mother, Helen Laverty Slocum; a brother, George Slocum of Cranford, and a sister, Joan Alder of Mountainside.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, April 3, at St. Dorothea Church. Interment was private.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Braun Funeral Home in Eatontown.

Stewart W. Kelley, 84
Stewart W. Kelley, 84, of Washington, D.C. died on Friday, March 31, 2000 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, D. C.
Born in Brooklyn, he had lived in Westfield and in Tampa, Fla. before relocating to Washington, D. C. Mr. Kelley was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving as a rifleman in Italy and North Africa before being captured in 1942. He was a prisoner of war until 1946 and retired from the Army in 1964.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan O’Neal; a son, Dennis Kelley; two sisters, Virginia Miller and Muri Huston; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Private memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, April 6, in the Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth.
Annie G. Cooke, 76
Annie G. Cooke, 76, of Berkeley Heights died on Sunday, April 2, 2000 at Runnells Specialized Hospital in Union County in Berkeley Heights.
Born in Plainfield, she had lived in Westfield for 25 years before moving to Berkeley Heights a year ago.
Mrs. Cooke had been employed at Art Color Corporation, formerly of Dunellen.
She was a former member of the Shiloh Baptist Church of Plainfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Cooke, in 1980.
Surviving are three sisters, Evelyn Hill of Sewaren, Bernice DaSilva of Los Angeles and Margarette Gould of Richmond, Va.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, April 5, in Brown’s Funeral Home in Plainfield. Interment took place at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Philomena Craffo, 87
Philomena Stripto Craffo, 87, of Scotch Plains died on Monday, April 3, 2000 at Rahway Hospital in Rahway.
Born in Plainfield, she lived in Scotch Plains for 30 years.
Mrs. Craffo had been employed in food service at Plainfield High School for 18 years before retiring in 1978.
She was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield and a member of its Rosary Society.
She was predeceased by her husband, Austin Craffo, in 1969 and by a son, Peter J. Craffo, in 1967.
Surviving are a daughter, Pauline C. Stumpf of Fanwood; three sisters, Sophie Desiato of Scotch Plains, Pauline Nigro and Caroline Donelan, both of Plainfield, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. today, Thursday, April 6, at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Plainfield, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Bernard’s Church.
Interment will be at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
Jozef Anaczkowski, 88
Parishioner; Was Steelworker at Newark Firm
Jozef Anaczkowski, 88, of Fanwood died on Saturday, April 1, 2000 at his home.
Born in Poland, he came to the United States in 1951.
He had lived in Newark and Irvington for 25 years before settling in Fanwood in 1981.
Mr. Anaczkowski had been employed as a steelworker for United States Steel Supply Company in Newark for 25 years, retiring in 1977.
He was a communicant of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Irvington.
Surviving are two sons, Eugene Anaczkowski and Ignatius Anaczkowski; a daughter, Christina Gonnella, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted yesterday, Wednesday, April 5, from the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by a Mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
