Life Dates: December 13, 1913 - September 12, 2004
Sophie Katransky, age 90, died on Sunday at her home in Hopelawn, NJ. She was born and resided in Keasbey, NJ moving to Hopelawn 55 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, John Katransky who died in 1980, her sister, Ann Mazur and her brothers, Anthony Jeglinski, Alexander Jeglinski, Leon Jeglinski and Stephen Jeglinski.
Survived by: Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Giovanna Katransky of Hopelawn, and her daughters and sons-in-law, Rose and Kevin McVeigh of Brownsville, OR and Agnes and Raymond Barry of Elizabeth, NJ. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred Arkin Jacobs
Life Dates: March 22, 1929 - September 24, 2004
Mildred Arkin Jacobs, age 75 of Metuchen, died on Friday at her home of bile duct cancer, which was diagnosed last January when she and her partner, Leonard Brown were wintering in Honolulu. She was born in Lakewood and had resided in Metuchen for the past 41 years. She was a Social Worker at the Sayreville Public Schools for 23 years, retiring in 1992. She was an artist, tennis enthusiast, health nut, feminist, traveler and loving grandparent, parent, aunt and friend.
Milly was born to Morris and Esther Schreiber Arkin in 1929, and grew up in Toms River on the family’s egg farm. The farm was part of an effort in the Lakewood-Toms River area to help Jewish immigrants to become farmers. Milly was captain of the middle school cheerleader squad and graduated from Toms River High School, where she was a member of the band and the National Honor Society, was a cheerleader and played field hockey, basketball and softball.
After graduation she attended Monmouth Junior College where she met her husband, Albert, a Navy veteran who was attending school on the G.I. Bill. After their marriage in 1949, they lived in Richmond Va. and New York City, where Al finished his undergraduate and graduate studies in Social Work. They moved to Portland, Maine for his first job where their oldest son George was born in 1952 and then to Springfield Ill. where sons Bruce and Andy were born. The family settled in Metuchen in 1963. Milly finished college at Newark State Teachers College in 1967 and received her Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University in 1969.
Retirement gave Milly opportunities to pursue interests and talents that a busy family and work life had neglected. She took up painting, collage and singing in addition to spending more time on the tennis court. Milly brought her trademark energy to all these endeavors. Despite all this activity, family and friends were always key for her.
Her husband, Albert who died in 1972 predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, George and Fong Jacobs of Singapore, Bruce and Mary of Chevy Chase, MD, and Andy of Taiwan. Also surviving are her brother, Norman Arkin of Tuscon, AZ, her partner, Leonard Brown and her grandchildren, Ben, Neva and Hank.
Funeral Service:
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 1, 2004 at
Temple Emanu-El, 100 James Street, Edison, NJ.
Interment was held privately.

Dorothy B. Gondola
Life Dates: June 8, 1928 - October 8, 2004
Dorothy B. Gondola, age 76 of Jamesburg, NJ, died on Friday at Roosevelt Care Center in Edison, NJ. He was born in Perth Amboy and resided in Fords before moving to Jamesburg 8 years ago.
Mrs. Gondola worked as a bank teller in Woodbridge and Carteret for many years. She was a former member of the Helmetta Senior Citizens and a former member of the Clara Barton Boy’s Baseball League.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Joseph Gondola who died in 1976, her son, George W. Gondola who died in 1975 and her brothers, Walter Baginsky who died in 1990 and John Baginsky who died in 1978.
Survived by: Surviving are her daughter, Janice Gondola of Brooklyn, NY and her brother, Joseph Baginsky of Carteret, NJ.

Jose L. Garcia
Life Dates: July 24, 1954 – September 11, 2004
Jose L. Garcia, age 50 of Wayne, died on Saturday in Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ. He was born in the Philippines and resided in Jersey City and Edison before moving to Wayne in 1989.
Mr. Garcia was self-employed as a Real Estate Investor in Wayne. He was a member of the Masonic Gramercy Lodge #537 of the State of New York and he was an avid golfer.
Survived by: Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Dr. Mariza Del Rosario Garcia, his daughters, Margarita and Monica Garcia, and his sons, Miguel and Jose A. Garcia all at home. Also surviving are his brothers, Luis Garcia of Wayne and Rafael Garcia of Tampa, and his sisters, Maria Luisa and Maria Victoria Garcia both of Jersey City.

John L. Farkas
Life Dates: October 22, 1941 - September 29, 2004
John L. Farkas, age 62 of Sayreville, died on Wednesday at Bayshore Community Hospital Holmdel, NJ. He was born in Perth Amboy and had resided in Matawan and the Perth Amboy area moving to Sayreville 7 years ago.
In 1999 he retired after 40 years with Ironworkers Local #373 in Perth Amboy. He enjoyed cooking and traveling with his loving companion, Marcia Haller and will be missed by all his friends at Browntown Bus Service in Old Bridge.
Survived by: Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and John Farrell of Woodbridge, his son, John Drew Farkas and his fiancée, Colleen M. Taylor of Old Bridge, and his children’s mother, Charlotte Farkas. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Timothy, Morgan, John and Olivia and his sister, Marie Baszak of Laurence Harbor.

Pedro Colella
Life Dates: August 3, 1963 - September 23, 2004
Pedro Colella, age 41 of Fords, died on Thursday. He was born in Avellaneda, Argentina and had resided in Elizabeth, NJ moving to Fords, NJ 7 years ago.
He was currently employed as a cabinet maker for Mielach Woodwork in Edison and had been with the company for 7 years. He was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local #821, Edison, NJ.
His father, Nicolamaria Colella who died in 1974 predeceased him.
Survived by: Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Gladis Szkarlatiuk Colella, his son, Nicolas Colella, at home, his daughter, Stephanie Colella, at home, his mother, Carmela Colella of Fords, and his brother, Horacio Colella of Union, NJ.

Stella Burzynski
Life Dates: July 10, 1919 - September 19, 2004
Stella Burzynski, age 85, died on Sunday at her home in Fords, NJ. She was born in Poland and resided in Perth Amboy moving to Fords 7 years ago.
She worked in the Housekeeping Department at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy for 22 years retiring in 1984. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords.
Stella served in the Polish Army Allied Forces during WWII.
Survived by: Surviving are her daughter, Diane H. Barany of Fords, her son, Eric S Burzynski of Perth Amboy, her grandchildren, Krystine, John Jr, Richard, Eric M. and Kelly and her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Noah, Hannah, Charli and Gia Marie.

Richard “Ricky” Charles Brown
Life Dates: October 20, 1960 - September 24, 2004
Richard “Ricky” Charles Brown, age 43 of Perth Amboy, NJ, died on Friday at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. He was born in and was a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy.
Survived by: Surviving are his parents, Raymond E. and Ollie Green Brown, his sisters and brother-in-law, Sandi Brown Navarro and Herman of Lakewood, Earlyne Brown Baker of Perth Amboy, Lt. Col. Valerie Brown Conerway of Jonesboro, GA and Karen Brown Adkins of Old Bridge and his brother, Raymond Brown Jr. Asadi of Tacoma Washington. Also surviving are his paternal grandmother, Annie Brown of Norfolk VA, seven nieces, seven nephews, eleven great nieces and nephews, and his Labrador Retriever, Buddy.
