Life Dates: March 28, 1947 - July 29, 2004
Leo Sand Koenig, III, age 57 of fords, died on Thursday at JFK Medical Center in Edison after a long courageous battle with Cancer. He was born in Albany NY and resided in South Amboy moving to Fords 2 years ago.
Mr. Koenig was a Consultant with Constantine, Walsh and Lowe in Jersey City for 5 years.
Survived by: Surviving are his wife, Irene T. Lewkowicz Koenig, his daughters, Christine D. Koenig of Fords and Lauren B. Koenig of Middletown, his stepson, David Alloway of Erie PA, and his mother, Harriet Marshall Koenig of Wilmington NC. Also surviving are his brother, Richard Koenig of Raleigh NC and four step-grandchildren.
Visitation: Sunday, august 1, 2004 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ.
Funeral Service: Monday, August 2, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, Rev Wayne Brady officiating.
Cremation will follow at Rosehill Crematory.

William Howry Jones
Life Dates: November 6, 1920 - July 28, 2004
William Howry Jones, age 83 of Metuchen, died on Wednesday in Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edsion, NJ. He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and had resided in Metuchen for the past 53 years.
Mr. Jones was a Research Chemist at Merck and Company in Rahway for 37 years retiring in 1985. He was a graduate of Juniata College, received his Masters degree from Columbia University where he did important work on the Manhattan Project, his PhD from M.I.T. and was a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity.
He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Metuchen and a member of the choir and former member of the Vestry.
He was a life member of the American Chemical Society, a fellow of the New York Academy of Sciences, a founding member of the Organic Reaction Catalysis Society and he held over a dozen chemical patents of which Vitamin B12 was the most prominent.
Survived by: Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary Barbolak Jones, his sons, Evan W. Jones of Boca Raton, FL and Rev. Philip B. Carr-Jones of Lebanon, his daughters Stephanie R. Stoy of Boonton and Elizabeth M. Mills of Nashville TN, his brother, Robert W. Jones of San Diego California and his sisters, Marcia J. Reynolds of Huntingdon PA and Nancy J. Giles of Manassas, VA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Katelin, Alex, Casey, Austin, Tori, Carrie, Ian, Joseph, Philip, Jonathan and Robin and two great-grandchildren.
Services: A memorial service will be held on Monday August 2, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 17 Oak Avenue, Metuchen NJ.
Contributions are requested to Juniata College, Huntingdon PA or, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church

Chester J. Jean, Sr.
Life Dates: March 8, 1928 - July 12, 2004
Chester J. Jean, Sr., age 76, died on Monday at his home in Metuchen, NJ. He was born in Perth Amboy, NJ and had resided in Metuchen for the past 51 years.
Mr. Jean was a 1946 graduate of Perth Amboy High School and served on the Reunion Committee. He was a Chemical Operator at Castrol Oil in Edison for 15 years retiring in 1993. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving two tours of duty during WWII.
He was Chief of the Metuchen Fire Department from 1970-1972, a retired member of the Eagle Hook and Ladder and an honorary member of Washington Hose Company. He was a life member of the N.J. Firemen’s Association and Exempt Firemen’s Association, past President of the Metuchen Exempt Firemen’s Association, Treasurer of the Metuchen Fire Department Relief Association and former manager of the NJ State Firemen’s Home in Boonton. He was also a former manager of the Middlesex County Fire School, a member of the Metuchen Elks Lodge #1914 where he was Elk of the year 2001-2002 and volunteer of the year in 2001. He was currently serving as Chaplain.
He was a communicant of St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen and was also an avid golfer.
His wife, Elizabeth C. Penn Jean who died in 1997 predeceased him.
Survived by: Surviving are his sons, Chester J. Jr. of Tabb, Virginia and Paul B. of Edison, his daughters, Kathleen A. Nickas of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Sharon C. Russyk of Iselin, Susan E. Patikowski of Metuchen and Sandra J. McGuinness of North Brunswick and his sister, Hannah Eaton of New Oxford Pennsylvania. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsey, Calla, Michael, Joseph, William, Kristine, Nicole, Michael, Samantha, Dallys and Francesca.
Visitation: Wednesday, July 14, 2004 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Avenue, Metuchen, NJ.
Funeral Service: Thursday July 15, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Cathedral.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Perth Amboy.
Memorial contributions may be made to: The Metuchen Elks Handicapped Children’s Committee.

Janet Hansen
Life Dates: October 4, 1914 - August 9, 2004
Janet Hansen, age 89 of Edison, died on Monday in Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was born in Perth Amboy and resided in Metuchen moving to Edison 30 years ago.
Mrs. Hansen was a homemaker devoting her time to her family. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Metuchen.
Her husband, Borge E. Hansen who died in 1998 and her brother and sister predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving is her devoted daughter, Rae Hansen of Edison
Visitation: Thursday, August 12, 2004 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Joseph J. Forsthoffer
Life Dates: February 18, 1921 - July 22, 2004
Joseph J. Forsthoffer, age 83 of Fords, died on Thursday at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. He was born in Keasby, New Jersey and resided his entire life in the Keasby and Fords sections of Woodbridge Township.
From 1943-1964 Mr. Forsthoffer was a machinist for Raritan Arsenal and from 1964 - 1986 he was a Plant Supervisor for Union Camp Research and Development in Princeton.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords and a former member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Social Club.
He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Jennie Mastrovitch Forsthoffer who died in 2004, his brothers, Louis and Charles and his sisters, Rosie Rosenthal and Catherine Pasterak
Survived by: Surviving are his daughter, Jeanette L. Nagy of Woodbridge, and his grandsons, Daniel F. Nagy and his wife, Kathryn of Marietta, GA and Christopher P. Nagy and his wife, Angela of Damascus, Md. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren, Laszlo Nagy of Marietta, GA, and Riley and Elijah Nagy of Damascus, Md.
Visitation: Monday, July 26, 2004 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace RC Church, Fords.
Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen.

Mary L. Cestone
Life Dates: October 26, 1941 - July 14, 2004
Mary L. Cestone, age 62, died on Wednesday in Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ. She was born in Irvington, NJ and had resided in the Menlo Park Terrace section of Woodbridge for the past 33 years.
Mrs. Cestone was a Registered Nurse at JFK Medical Center for 31 years retiring in 2002.
Her husband, Leon Cestone who died in 1981 predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Werner and Sue of Bradley Beach, John and Cindy of Edison and Matthew and Nina of Metuchen and her daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Hector of Woodbridge and Donna and Chris of Colonia. Also surviving are her brother, John Scholz of Medford Lakes, her grandchildren, Jimmy, Stephanie, Samantha, Hannah, Daniel, and Marcus, several nieces, nephews and cousins and her lifelong best friend, Connie Thomas of Edison.
Visitation: Sunday, July 18, 2004 7:00-9:00 p.m.; Monday, July 19, 2004 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Alyce Rifenburg Carls
Life Dates: March 6, 1917 - July 29, 2004
Alyce Rifenburg Carls, age 87 of Basking Ridge, died on Thursday at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was born in Perth Amboy and resided in Metuchen moving to Basking Ridge 7 years ago.
Mrs. Carls was a homemaker devoting her time to her family. She was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Perth Amboy.
Her husband, Robert Carls who died in 2000 predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving are her sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Van Liew of Toms River and her niece, Janice Hill of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
Visitation: Monday, August 2, 2004 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Salvatore J. Alessi
Life Dates: May 20, 1923 - July 21, 2004
Salvatore J. Alessi, age 81, died on Wednesday Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, NJ. He was born in Metuchen and resided in Perth Amboy moving to Fords 27 years ago.
Mr. Alessi owned Ace Shoe Repair Shop in South Amboy for 30 years retiring in 2001, and had formerly been employed at Raritan Arsenal in Edison for 18 years.
He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps serving as a Corporal during WWII. He was a communicant of Most Holy Rosary RC Church in Hopelawn.
Survived by: Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marie A. Bayles Alessi, his son, Barry Mark Alessi of Fords, and his special niece and nephew, Gianna and Louis Bayles. Also surviving are his sisters, Angelina Pino of Edison, Grace Dunne of Inverness, FL, Verna MacMillan of Las Vegas, NV and Doris Cortez of Plainfield, his brother, John Alessi of Inverness FL and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Friday, July 23, 2004 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Funeral Service: Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 8:30 a.m. followed by a 9:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Most Holy Rosary Church, Hopelawn.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
