John Michael LaManna

Mr. LaManna, 79, of Little Silver, died Nov. 3 at home. He was born and raised in West Brighton, N.Y. He was a professional meat cutter at A & P, Woodbridge, retiring after 28 years’ service. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct, American Campaign, European African-Middle Eastern Campaign, and World War II Victory Medals. He attended church regularly at Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Asbury Park Mount Carmel Post No. 1333, and the Italian-American Club of Ocean. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and Yankees. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Anthony LaManna. He is survived by his wife, Inger; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and George Economy of Rumson, Karen and David Mangino of Staten Island, N.Y., and Judy LaManna of Long Branch; and four grandchildren. A funeral service was held at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, West Long Branch. Arrangements were by Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown. Memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Church of the Reformation, 922 Broadway, West Long Branch 07764.

John Albert Trim

Mr. Trim, 60, of Long Branch, died Nov. 25 at home. Born in South Orange, he had been a resident of Long Branch since 1965. He was a retired business owner. Mr. Trim was predeceased by his parents, George and Angela Trim; and a brother, Savino “Sandy” Trim. He is survived by a son, Robert Trim of Atlanta; three daughters and one son-in-law, Jill and Darren Applegate of Barnegat, and Jacqueline Trim and Allison Trim, both of Rumson; a brother, Dr. George Trim of Toms River; a sister, Lisa Bova of Toms River; and four grandchildren. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 605 Asbury Ave., Asbury Park 07712; or the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07701.

Marge Pallone

Mrs. Pallone of Little Silver died Sept. 25 at home. She was born in Red Bank, and resided in Little Silver for 49 years. She was a retired school nurse and health teacher at Memorial School, Eatontown, where she was employed for 31 years. Mrs. Pallone was a communicant and lector at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She served in the Army Air Force as a first lieutenant in the Nurse Corps during World War II. She was president of the Monmouth County School Nurses Association, the San Alfonso Women’s Auxiliary, the Little Silver Women’s Club, and Ocean Township AARP. She served on the board of Family and Children’s Services of Monmouth County, and was a volunteer instructor in first aid and CPR for the American Red Cross. She was inducted as one of the first members of the Red Bank Regional High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 2002. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Carmine Pallone; two brothers, Frank and Clement Mazza; and a sister, Adeline Mazza. Mrs. Pallone is survived by two sons, Joseph Pallone of Alexandria, Va., and Thomas Pallone of Little Silver; a sister, Philomena Caruso of Red Bank; a daughter-in-law, Catherine; and one grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to Little Silver First Aid Squad, 480 Prospect Ave., Little Silver 07739.

Ebbing Tide "Tony" Waters

Mr. Waters, 83, of Fair Haven died Sept. 30 at Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown. He was born in Bluefield, W.Va. He was a retired electronics engineer at Fort Monmouth, where he was employed for 30 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the first graduating class at the Merchant Marine Academy, Glen Cove, N.Y., in 1942. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Communion, Fair Haven, where he served as a senior warden and vestry member for several years. He was involved with Fair Haven Little League, and under his leadership the League was restructured and expanded. He enjoyed golf, bridge, billiards and croquet. Mr. Waters was predeceased by his wife of 28 years, Thelma C. Sendal, in 1973; six brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Bernadette Dalton-Waters of Red Bank; two sisters, Alice of Crosslanes, W.Va., and Mary of Bluefield, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at the Church of the Holy Communion, Fair Haven. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702.

John A. Salatino

Mr. Salatino, 75, of Middletown died Oct. 1 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Middletown the past 47 years. He was a retired butcher at Foodtown, Red Bank, where he was employed for 24 years. Prior to that, he worked at A&P, Little Silver, for 20 years, and Dearborn Farms, Holmdel, for five years. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the commissioner of the Middletown Recreation Commission and a Republican County committeeman in Red Bank and Middletown for 28 years. He was a charter member of the Middletown Elks. He was predeceased by his wife, Emily Paige Salatino in 2000; four sisters, Gemma Gelso, Mary Ambrosino, Edith Grandinetti and Rose Levi; and a brother, Leonard Salatino. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Jack Olsen of Long Branch; his brother, Victor Salatino of Red Bank; and one grandson. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Ellen R. Scher

Mrs. Scher, 76, of Red Bank died Oct. 4 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division. Born in New Castle-Underlyme, England, she came to the United States in 1947 and resided in Aberdeen prior to moving to Red Bank in 1984. She owned and operated The Cheese Station gourmet food shop, Red Bank, from 1980-90. The shop was voted one of the "10 best gourmet shops in the state" by New Jersey magazine in 1981. Prior to that, she designed knitted fabrics in New York City. She served in the British Army during World War II. She served on the Monmouth County Election Board, was a charter member of the Women’s Memorial, Washington, D.C., and co-chaired the Human Relations Committee, Red Bank. Her activities included teaching knit­ting at the Red Bank Senior Citizens Club. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Michael Scher of Red Bank; her brother, Thomas Nylor of Staffordshire, England; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ar­rangements were by C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia.

David Steven Robinson

Mr. Robinson, 38, of Eatontown died Oct. 4 at St. Barnabas Hospice Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Fort Rucker, Ala., he resided in Georgia before moving to Eatontown five years ago. He was a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He was predeceased by his father, Larry Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Kelli Robinson; three sons, Jacob, Aaron, and Erik; his mother, Diane Jones Robinson; a brother, Stephen Robinson; a sister, Tracy Walker; and his grandfather, Warren Robinson. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Fort Monmouth Post Chapel, Eatontown. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Charlotte M. Rounds

Mrs. Rounds, 87, of Tinton Falls died Oct. 5 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge Division. Born in Howell, she resided in Ab­erdeen prior to moving to Tinton Falls three years ago. She was a homemaker and co-proprietor with her husband of Highway Garage, Colts Neck and Matawan, until 1963. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Rounds, in 1989; and a daughter, Joyce McGee, in 1998. She is survived by her son, Charles A. Rounds of Tinton Falls; two daughters, Darcy Sullivan of Half Moon Bay, Calif., and Frances Rounds of Kansas City, Mo.; her brother, Willard Conk of Vero Beach, Fla.; four grand­children; and four great-grandchildren. Visi­tation will be Oct. 8 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adel­phia.

Jovita R. Tolentino Farparan

Mrs. Farparan, 69, of Keyport died Sept. 28 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Born in Newark, she resided in Old Bridge before moving to Keyport six years ago. Mrs. Farparan was a member of St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Farparan, in 1997. She is survived by six sons, Raymond Farparan of Union Beach, Anthony and Mark Farparan, both of Old Bridge, Vincent Farparan of Red Bank, and Albert and Matthew Farparan, both of Keyport; two daughters, Teresa Kolbinskie of Parlin and Alicia Preyer of Brick; a brother, James Tolentino of Keansburg; a sister, Claire Trogani of Montville; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be Oct. 2 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, 237 Bordentown Ave., South Amboy. A funeral service will be held Oct. 3 at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette’s Church. Entombment will be at Good Shepherd Mausoleum at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 846 Main St., Fords 08863.

Janet Cassidy Kerchner

Mrs. Kerchner, 82, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and formerly of Long Branch, died Sept. 13 at the Pikes Peak Hospice Residence, Colorado Springs. Born in Long Branch, she resided there until moving to Colorado Springs in 1970. Mrs. Kerchner was a homemaker and volunteer, and enjoyed time with her family. She was a member of the Retired Officers Wives Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank S. Kerchner, U.S. Air Force (Retired), in 1998; and a brother, Francis Cassidy. She is survived by a son, Frank S. Kerchner Jr. of Colorado Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Cassidy of Hilton Head, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Betty Cassidy of Shrewsbury; and several nieces and nephews. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 N. Union Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80909; or Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Arrangements were by Shrine of Remembrance, Colorado Springs.

Angelo M. Valentino

Mr. Valentino, 82, of Long Branch died Sept. 8 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he relocated to Long Branch in 1922. Mr. Valentino co-owned and operated a business with his family, which began in 1910 and operated for almost nine decades. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received seven decorations and citations as a member of the 89th Infantry Division of the Third Army. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and choir. His memberships included the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 742, the Amerigo Vespucci Society, the Italian American Memorial Association, and the American Legion, Long Branch. He was also an officer and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2795, Long Branch, and served as an officer and past president of the American Federation of Musicians Local No. 399, Long Branch. He and his brother founded a band in the 1930s and won a gold medal at the 1939 World’s Fair. He played and enjoyed music with his friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Ossino Valentino; and two brothers, Salvatore and Frank Valentino. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph T. and Carole Valentino of Oceanport, and Alfred J. and Anne Valentino of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie Ann and Edward J. Johnson of Howell; two brothers, Louis and Charles Valentino, both Long Branch; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was at Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at Holy Trinity Church, Long Branch. Interment was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
