Jovita R. Tolentino Farparan
Mrs. Farparan, 69, of Keyport died Sept. 28 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge. Born in Newark, she resided in Old Bridge before moving to Keyport six years ago. Mrs. Farparan was a member of St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Farparan, in 1997. She is survived by six sons, Raymond Farparan of Union Beach, Anthony and Mark Farparan, both of Old Bridge, Vincent Farparan of Red Bank, and Albert and Matthew Farparan, both of Keyport; two daughters, Teresa Kolbinskie of Parlin and Alicia Preyer of Brick; a brother, James Tolentino of Keansburg; a sister, Claire Trogani of Montville; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be Oct. 2 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, 237 Bordentown Ave., South Amboy. A funeral service will be held Oct. 3 at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial

Janet Cassidy Kerchner
Mrs. Kerchner, 82, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and formerly of Long Branch, died Sept. 13 at the Pikes Peak Hospice Residence, Colorado Springs. Born in Long Branch, she resided there until moving to Colorado Springs in 1970. Mrs. Kerchner was a homemaker and volunteer, and enjoyed time with her family. She was a member of the Retired Officers Wives Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank S. Kerchner, U.S. Air Force (Retired), in 1998; and a brother, Francis Cassidy. She is survived by a son, Frank S. Kerchner Jr. of Colorado Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Cassidy of Hilton Head, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Betty Cassidy of Shrewsbury; and several nieces and nephews. Angelo M. Valentino
Mr. Valentino, 82, of Long Branch died Sept. 8 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he relocated to Long Branch in 1922. Mr. Valentino co-owned and operated a business with his family, which began in 1910 and operated for almost nine decades. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received seven decorations and citations as a member of the 89th Infantry Division of the Third Army. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and choir. His memberships included the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 742, the Amerigo Vespucci Society, the Italian American Memorial Association, and the American Legion, Long Branch. He was also an officer and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2795, Long Branch, and served as an officer and past president of the American Federation of Musicians Local No. 399, Long Branch. He and his brother founded a band in the 1930s and won a gold medal at the 1939 World’s Fair. He played and enjoyed music with his friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Ossino Valentino; and two brothers, Salvatore and Frank Valentino. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph T. and Carole Valentino of Oceanport, and Alfred J. and Anne Valentino of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie Ann and Edward J. Johnson of Howell; two brothers, Louis and Charles Valentino, both Long Branch; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was at Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Raymond Ching
Raymond Ching, 66, of Asbury Park died Aug. 4. He served as Rutgers University recycling coordinator, New Brunswick, for several years, and developed the largest university recycling program in the nation. He was also instrumental in bringing recycling programs to the area in the first county-wide recycling program in the nation. He served on the board of directors of the National Recycling Coalition, the Tinton Falls Planning Board, Red Bank Environmental Commission, and Monmouth County Friends of Clearwater. He is survived by a son, Jon Ching of Honolulu, Hawaii; and two step-sisters. A memorial service was held at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Michael B Wilenta
Michael B. Wilenta, 76, died Sept. 14 at home. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Secaucus before moving to Marlboro in 1997. He was a former communicant of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Secaucus for 42 years, and a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church in Marlboro. A World War II Navy veteran, he was self-employed. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Wilenta of Edgewood, N.M., Peter Wilenta of Wyckoff, and Paul and Leah Wilenta of Toms River; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and William Farrell of Rumson, Eileen and Patrick Kelly of Manalapan, Noreen and Vincent Ricciardi of Colts Neck, and Michele and Eugene Chiarelli of Carbondale, Colo.; a sister, Bernadette Zajac of Florida; and 13 grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan, followed by entombment at Marlboro Memorial Mausoleum, Marlboro. Eleanor McGue Millhiser
Eleanor McGue Millhiser, 83, of Richmond, Va., died Aug. 7 at Memorial Regional Medical Center, Richmond. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she resided in Richmond and Rumson prior to relocating to Richmond. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Cathedral and St. Bridget’s Church, all Richmond, and a former communicant of Holy Cross Church, Rumson. She was a corresponding secretary for the Holy Cross School P.T.A. Her volunteer activities included serving as coordinator for drivers of For I Shall Help (F.I.S.H.), Monmouth County; Lunch Break, Red Bank; and serving as corresponding secretary, vice president and executive board member of the Auxiliary for St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center, New York City. Her memberships included the English Speaking Union and the New Jersey Historical Society. She enjoyed time with her family, and gardening. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Ann Brockenbrough and Patricia Walsh. She is survived by her husband, Ross Millhiser of Richmond, Va.; three sons, Ross Millhiser Jr. and Timothy McG. Ernest "Ernie" P. Rocheford, 40, of Red Bank died Sept. 10 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was born in Oceanport. Mr. Rocheford worked in tree removal services for various employers in Monmouth County. He served with the U.S. Army from 1980-83. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was predeceased by his father, Ernest J. Rocheford, in 1981. He is survived by his mother, Dolores Rocheford of Tamarac, Fla.; a brother, Robert S. Graham of Tamarac; two sisters, Catherine A. Kelly Keenan Manning
Kelly Keenan Manning, 39, of Sea Bright died Aug. 18 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Red Bank, she was a lifelong Sea Bright resident. Ms. Manning was a medical office manager. She is survived by her son and daughter, Hunter Justus Manning and Bridget Amanda Manning; her mother, Betty Lovgren Justus; her father and stepmother, John and Joan Keenan; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Gerald Ferencz, Karen and Robert DiBerardino, Debra Crowell, Jacqueline Yursha and Kimberly Tallard; and two brothers, John Joseph Keenan and Daniel Patrick Keenan. Mary "Polly" Schulz Whitehead
Mary "Polly" Schulz Whitehead, 49, of Seattle, formerly of Fair Haven, died Sept. 2 in Seattle. Born in Huntington, N.Y., she grew up in Rumson, and resided in Fair Haven, and Amsterdam for three years before moving to Seattle. She was a supervisory systems engineer at AT&T until 1987. She served on the Fair Haven school board from 1989-93, and chaired its staff relations committee from 1990-92. She is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Doug, Anne and Rob; and two sisters, Jane Smith of Chevy Chase, Md., and Nancy Dauster of Punta Gorda, Fla. John J. "Jack" de Groot
John J. "Jack" de Groot, 75, of Shrewsbury died Sept. 8 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Babylon, N.Y., he resided in Little Silver prior to moving to Shrewsbury in 1973. Mr. de Groot was a retired sales executive at the Stepan Chemical Co., Northfield, Ill., for 32 years. He enjoyed time with his family, gardening and the outdoors, and was also an avid equestrian. He was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Joan B. Baginski de Groot, in 1984; a sister, Joan Bartow; and a brother, Skip de Groot. Mr. de Groot is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Jeannie de Groot, Peter J. and Lisa de Groot, Robert G. and Sue de Groot, Steven J. and Kathleen de Groot, and John A. Salvatore A. Mazzucco
Mr. Mazzucco, 77, of Hazlet died Sept. 19 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he resided there until relocating to Hazlet 45 years ago. Mr. Mazzucco was the owner and operator of Fair Haven Corner Café, Fair Haven, from 1981-86. Prior to that, he owned and operated the Ice Cream Palace, Aberdeen, and was a retail manager for New Jersey district sales for Gulf Oil Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. His memberships included the Hazlet Township Recreation Committee, for which he served as treasurer; Hazlet Youth Athletic League; and the Brush and Palette Art Guild. He was also a patient advocate at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Mr. Mazzucco was predeceased by a brother, John Mazzucco. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phoebe Isaacson Mazzucco; four sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Jacqueline Mazzucco of Colts Neck, Steven and Joyceann Mazzucco of Pitman, David and Karen Mazzucco of Westfield, and Richard and Denise Mazzucco of Jupiter, Fla.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Rod Harris of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Christine Mazzucco of Hamden, Conn.; a sister, Marion Mertz of Copake, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.
