Gene Novello, 86
Builder and Developer; Music Composer Wrote ‘Boulder Buff’
Gene R. Novello, 86, a lifelong resident of Scotch Plains, died on Wednesday, February 3, 1999 at home.
Mr. Novello was a builder and developer for 60 years. He started Gene Novello, Inc. in 1950, and served as President of the company until his death.
He also composed music with Paul Greenwood of Plainfield. Songs the pair wrote were recorded by such music industry legends as Kay Starr, Vic Damone, Billie Holiday and Cab Calloway. “Boulder Buff, ” which was recorded by Glenn Miller, sold over 1 million copies.
Mr. Novello was a past member of the Italian-American Society, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Scotch Plains, the Scotch Plains Board of Education and the Township Council, and the Spring Brook Country Club.
He was an active member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
He was predeceased by his son, Gary Novello, Sr. in 1994.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Mancini Novello; a daughter, Gale Novello Katz of Bernardsville; four sisters, Laberta Cotton of Florida, Florinda Novella and Angela Gaddis, both of Scotch Plains, and Millie Koscinski of Beachwood; one brother, Ben Novello of Annandale, and two grandsons.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 13, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church.
Visitation will be held tomorrow, Friday, February 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Robert G. Yenzer, 65
Robert G. Yenzer, 65, of Austin, Texas died on Monday, February 8, 1999.
Born in Brooklyn, he had lived most of his life in Westfield before moving to Austin a year ago.
Mr. Yenzer had been an executive with IBM for 25 years, working in New York and Texas, before retiring two years ago.
He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the 1950s during peacetime.
He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business.
He was predeceased by a son, James Yenzer.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan Yenzer of Austin; three sons, Jonathan Yenzer of San Diego, California, Matthew Yenzer of Austin and Andrew Yenzer of Hawaii; his parents, George and Gertrude Yenzer of Westfield; three sisters, Mary LaPoint of Howell, Dorothy Vecchione of Westport, Connecticut and Kathleen Rauch of Westfield, and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 13, at the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m.

Krystyna Gaszynski
Life Dates: April 8, 1949 - June 19, 2003
Krystyna Gaszynski, age 54, died on Thursday at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy.
She was born in Germany and was a ife long resident of Perth Amboy. Ms. Gaszynzki was self-employed in child care. She was a avid reader.
Her parents, Jan and Stella Gaszynski, her brother, James Gaszynski, and her sister, Charlotte Lemerich predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving are her sisters, Hedy Pryor of Perth Amboy, Emilie Barbieri of Ill., Jeannette Orton of Ca., Barbara Gaszynski of Fords, and Helen Gaszynski of Fords and her brothers, Stephen Gaszynski of Perth Amboy and Raymond Gaszynski of Howell. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Monday, June 23, 2003 7:00-9:00 p.m.

John Stefanik, Jr.
Life Dates: December 3, 1918 - May 1, 2003
John Stefanik, age 84, died on Thursday at his home in Hopelawn after a long illness.
Shortly after his birth in Perth Amboy in 1918, his family moved to what is now the Slovak Republic. He returned to the U S in 1937 and had resided in Hopelawn for the past 52 years.
Mr. Stefanik was an employee of the Shell Oil Co. in Sewaren for over 30 years retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of the U S Army serving in the South Pacific during World War II from 1942- 1945 and receiving various honors including the Victory medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Edison, a member of the Hopelawn VFW Post 1352, and a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Anna who died in 1998 and his son, John III who died in 1954.
Survived by: Surviving are his daughters, Dr. Jeanann S. Boyce of Laurel Md. and Linda MacDonald Glenn of Burlington, Vermont, his son, Roy M. Stefanik of Warrenton Va, three grandsons and two step-granddaughters.
Visitation: Sunday, May 4, 2003 7:00-9:00 p.m.; Monday, May 5, 2003 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

George A. Slicho
Life Dates: May 12, 1915 - May 26, 2003
George Slicho, age 87, died on Monday at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was born in New Orleans, La. And had resided in Edison for the last 46 years.
Mr. Slicho worked in Quality Control for Ford Motor Company in Edison. As a second career he was a jazz pianist, forming his own group called the George Howard Company. He played mostly in the metropolitan area but his travels also took him to Europe to play.
He was a veteran of the US Army Airforce serving during WWII. He was a member of the Executive Council of the Musicians Union in Perth Amboy and New Brunswick. He was a communicant at Our Lady of Peace RC Church.
Survived by: Surviving are his loving wife, Anne Toth Slicho, his son, George of Minnesota, his daughter, Marilyn Bornstein of Kendall Park, and his granddaughter, Danielle Bornstein.
Funeral Service: There will be no viewing hours. Friends will gather directly at Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords on Friday, May 30, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial.
Entombment will follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.

Samuel R. Quattrocchi
Life Dates: March 21, 1920 - May 3, 2003
Samuel R. Quattrocchi, age 83, died on Saturday at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was born in Perth Amboy, NJ and had resided in Edison since 1955.
Mr. Quattrocchi was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Woodbridge for 25 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Edison Senior Citizens and a member of Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords.
His wife Elizabeth Vozar Quattrocchi who died in 2002 and his brothers, John Quattrocchi and Frank Quattrocchi predeceased him.
Survived by: Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nancy Quattrocchi of Fords, his grandchildren, Amy Ryan and Kathryn Quattrocchi and his brother, Victor Quattrocchi.

Elizabeth K. Novak
Life Dates: April 8, 1909 - May 2, 2003
Elizabeth K. Novak, age 94, died on Friday at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, NJ. She was born and resided in Keasbey, NJ moving to Flemington in 1966.
Mrs. Novak was the Postmaster of the Keasbey Post Office for 40 years retiring in 1974. She played the organ for the Hungarian Reformed Church and John Calvin Reformed Church, both of Perth Amboy and was also the choir director for the John Calvin Church. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Perth Amboy and a member of the Eastern Star.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Novak who died in 1986, and her sisters, Margaret Wade, Ethel Nielsen, Clara Mazur and Helen Kiraly, and her brother, Stephen Kiraly.
Survived by: Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Gerard and Dolores Novak of Hopelawn, and Ronald and Dorothy Novak of Spotswood, and her daughter and son-in-law, J. Donna and Daniel Feeser of Greenfield Center, NY. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Randal, Keith, and Glenn Novak and Ronda Egan, and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Connor Egan.

Jon H. Nielsen
Life Dates: January 4, 1928 - May 25, 2003
Jon Nielsen, age 75, died on Sunday at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was born in Perth Amboy and had been a resident of Metuchen for the last 30 years.
Mr. Nielsen was a Linesman with Public Service in New Brunswick.
He was a veteran of the US Navy.
Survived by: Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Ruth Poulsen Nielsen, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arnett and Joan Poulsen of Metuchen.
Funeral Service: Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rick Oppelt officiating.
