Janice G. Simkin
Life Dates: March 25, 1927 - March 31, 2003
Janice G. Simkin, age 76, died on Monday in Boca Raton Community Hospital. She had resided Metuchen, moving to Boca Raton in 1998.
Mrs. Simkin was a Librarian for Martin Lutheran King School in Piscataway, NJ, retiring in 1979 after 19 years. She was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, and graduated from the New Jersey College for Women with a BA and Rutgers University with an MA in Library Science.
She was a member of Beth Mordecai in Perth Amboy and Neve Shalom in Metuchen, a member of League of Woman Voters and the National Library Association. She was also a member of the NJ State Optometry Board and the Sisterhood at Neve Shalom in Metuchen.
Survived by: Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Theodore T. Simkin, her daughter, Margery Simkin of Los Angeles, CA, her son, Fred Simkin of Franklin Township, NJ, and her grandson, David Simkin.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at 11:30 a.m., Rabbi Hilel Rudavsky officiating.

Burial will be in Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.

Elisa Rivera
Life Dates: November 10, 1930 - April 15 2003
Elisa Rivera, age 73, died on Tuesday at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ. She was born in Puerto Rico and had resided in Perth Amboy for the last 48 years.
Mrs. Rivera was a homemaker who devoted her time to her family.
Her husband, Ismael Rivera, Sr. who died in 1988 predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving are her sons, Ismael Rivera, Jr. of Perth Amboy, Eliobadis Rivera of Sewaren and Robert Rivera of Perth Amboy, and her daughters, Yolanda Rivera Paz of Elizabeth and Mildred Rivera of Perth Amboy. Also surviving are five grandchildren, two brothers, Carlos Enriques Fuentes of Puerto Rico and Antonio Lopez of South River, one sister, Lydia Fuentes of Puerto Rico and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Friday, April 18, 2003 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Milan Mark Plavac
Life Dates: November 10, 1927 - April 13, 2003
Milan Plavac, age 75, died on Sunday at St. Peter's Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ. he was born in Cleveland, Ohio and had resided in Edison for the past 43 years.
Mr. Plavac was a supervisor and plant superintendent with U.S. Steel Supply Company in Newark, NJ for 33 years until his retirement in 1977. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WW II and was a member of the Hopelawn Memorial VFW Post 1352.
Survived by: Surviving are his wife of 53 years Anna Mae Dickriede Plavac, his daughters, Jane Kiernan of Long Valley, Janet Sovart of Edison and June Lazaro of Linden, and his sons, Dr. Frank Plavac of Mill Valley, Ca and Nick Plavac of Endwell, NY. Also surviving are two sisters and four brothers in Ohio, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, April 15, 2003 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Anna M. Orlando
Life Dates: January 30, 1908 - April 19, 2003
Anna M. Orlando, age 95, died on Saturday at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was born in Perth Amboy and resided for most of her life in Edison.
Mrs. Orlando was a graduate of Drakes Business College and worked as a stenographer for Perth Amboy Dry Docks for 8 years until her marriage to Leonard Nelson.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service at the church. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star, Carteret 239 Chapter and a member of Edison Senior Citizens. She was active in Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Edison Area and a member of the American Bible Association Book of the month to which she donated 2 bibles monthly.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Leonard O. Nelson who died in 1969 and Frank Orlando who died in 1999, her son, Dr. Donald R. Nelson, her sister, Julia Fullmer, and her granddaughter, Jill Brady.
Survived by: Surviving are her daughter in law, Virginia Nelson of Huntington Beach, CA, her great-granddaughter, Samantha Brady, her sister, Alice Kirkup of Edison, her stepson, Robert Orlando of Livingston, seven step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Ida Mandel
Life Dates: November 3, 1908 - April 17, 2003
Ida Mandel, age 94, died on Thursday at Cedar Oaks Nursing Home in South Plainfield, NJ.
She was born in Perth Amboy and resided there her entire life.
Ms. Mandel had worked as a Bookkeeper for various companies.
Survived by: Surviving are her nieces, Ruth Lindner of New York City and Bette Reed of Alaska, two great-nieces and two great-nephews.
Funeral Service: A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday April 20, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in Hebrew Fraternity Cemetery, Hopelawn.
Irene Matey
Life Dates: October 18, 1913 - March 28, 2003
Irene Matey, age 89, of Fords died on Friday at the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. She was born in Perth Amboy and had resided in Fords for the last 40 years.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, Fords. Mrs. Matey was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Matey who died in 1968 and her daughter, Joan Pajak who died in 1976.
Survived by: She is survived by her son-in-law, Joseph Pajak, and her grandson, James Pajak, both of Fords and with whom she resided. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Janet Sanders, and her husband, Steven, of Robbinsville NJ, along with two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Justin Sanders.

Winifred Leahy, age 79, died on Monday at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was born in New York City and had resided in Edison for 23 years moving to Fords 4 months ago.
Mrs. Leahy was a homemaker who devoted her time to her family.
Her husband, Patrick J. Leahy, who died in1962, predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Nauta of Bay Shore, NY, Loretta Woolley of Fords and Ellen Motta of Teaneck. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tommy, Kristen, Christopher and Jon.

Marie Johnson, age 85, died on Monday at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Somerset. She was born in Brooklyn and had resided in Fords for the past 30 years.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker who devoted her time to her family. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords.
Her husband, Eugene C. Johnson Sr., who died in 1994, predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Eugene C. and Virginia Johnson Jr. of Long Meadow, Mass., her daughter Sr. Lynn M. Johnson RSM of Brooklyn and her sister, Virginia Noto of Middle Village Queens. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Michele, Eugene C. III and Laura Jean and three great-grandchildren, Stephen, Kyle, and Luke.
