William J. Berry

William J. Berry, age 86 of Edison, died on Saturday at The Barbara E. Cheung Memorial Hospice in Edison. He was born in Manhattan and had resided in Stelton before moving to Edison in 1951.
Mr. Berry was a graduate of the New Brunswick Vocational School. He was a Sheet Metal Worker for the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local # 27 of East Brunswick for over 41 years before retiring 24 years ago. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII in Hawaii and the Central, Asiatic and South Pacific Campaigns. He was a member of The VFW Post # 3117 in Edison, a communicant of St. Matthew the Apostle RC Church in Edison and an avid fisherman.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Lisa Berry who died in 1974 and his son-in-law, Alfred “Joe” Togneri who died in 2006.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Miriam Berry, his daughter, Judith L. Togneri of Brick, his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael A. and Lisa V. Berry of Jensen Beach FL and Timothy G. and Robin J. Berry of Edison, his seven grandchildren, Tracy, Michael, Ryan, Brandon, Christian Kaloi, Lisa Marie Togneri, and Michelle Ann Scullion and his ten great-grandchildren.

Elaine T. Alicki Guay
Life Dates: October 27, 1937 - March 26, 2001
Elaine Guay, age 63, died on Monday at her home in Atlantic Highlands. She was born in Perth Amboy and resided in Edison before moving to Atlantic Highlands a year ago.
Mrs. Guay was a graduate of Douglas College in New Brunswick and an International Market Planner with Lucent Technology in Liberty Corner for 20 years, retiring in1997.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Perth Amboy.
Her parents, Adam and Marie Alicki predeceased her.
Survived by: Surviving are her husband, Richard Guay; her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Marie and Steven Eckert of Chester, NY; her son, Richard Guay, Jr. of Carrollton, Texas; her brother, Bernard P. Alicki of Ft. Lauderdale Florida, and her grandson, Adam Guay.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 28, 2001 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Funeral Service: Thursday, March 29, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Perth Amboy.

Cissie Dickens
Life Dates: June 12, 1912 - January 27, 2001
Cissie Dickens, age 88, died on Saturday at Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in Browns Mills. She was born in London, England and had resided in Elizabeth, NJ before moving to Edison 50 years ago.
Mrs. Dickens worked in the Distribution Department at Revlon in Edison for 15 years before retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Congregation Adath Israel and its sisterhood in Woodbridge, a member of the YMHA seniors in Perth Amboy and a volunteer at the Forum Theater in Metuchen.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Dickens who died in 1992; her sister, Phoebe Jaye who died in 1999 and her sister, Rita Ullman who died in 1993.
Survived by: Surviving are her niece, Valerie Leaf of London and her uncle, Sydney Miller of London.
Funeral Service: Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Beth Israel Memorial Park in Woodbridge, Rabbi Milton Kula officiating.
Nicholas Semak
Nicholas Semak, 78, of Fords, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at the Maryann Hale Hospice Wing at the JFK Medical Center, Edison.
He was born May 16, 1922 in Avenel he has resided in Fords the last 51 years.
He retired in 1990, after being employed for 34 years with the Shell Oil Co. of Sewaren.
Mr. Semak was a US Marine Corps. Veteran of WWII where he was a fighter pilot. He was a Graduate of Carteret High School and attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Va. where he played football, then graduated from Eastern Kentucky State College, where he also played football. He also played semi pro Football with the 1941 Golden Bears, of Woodbridge. He is a member of the Woodbridge Township Athletic Hall of Fame for Football, inducted in 1999. He was an active member with the Woodbridge Health Club and an avid golfer.
He is the brother of the late Michael "Pat" Semak, Paul Semak, Julie Shomsky, Mary Joss, and Anne O'Donnell.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Rebar of Fords, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday 11:00 a.m. at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords.
Interment will follow in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption Cemetery, Hopelawn.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

H. John Gerdes, 62
H. John Gerdes, 62, of Westfield died on Thursday, October 1, 1998 at home.
Born in Bremen, Germany, he had come to the United States in 1955 and settled in Cranford before moving to Westfield in 1958.
He became a United States citizen in 1961.
Mr. Gerdes served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962.
He had worked as a furniture restorer since 1955 at Don Maxwell Furniture Restoration in Mountainside.
Mr. Gerdes was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Westfield.
Surviving are his wife, Christa Ehlscheid Gerdes; two daughters, Sonya Lancaster of Baltimore and Karen Gerdes of Westfield; his mother, Anna Warnecke Gerdes of Germany, and a brother, Karl Heinz Gerdes of Germany.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 3, at the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Interment took place in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Ethel Brown Griffin, 60
Ethel Alverta Brown Griffin, 60, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, September 30, 1998 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Plainfield, she had lived in Westfield before returning to Plainfield.
She attended Westfield schools and became a licensed beautician and a certified home health care worker.
Mrs. Griffin was a member of the nurses’ unit of the Rose of Sharon Community Church in Plainfield, and of Centennial Temple No. 246, Elks Lodge, International Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World in Westfield.
Surviving are two daughters, Evelyn Griffin of Scotch Plains and Renee Griffin of Plainfield; two sons, James Griffin of Plainfield and Charles Griffin of South Plainfield; five brothers, Charles Brown, James Brown, Douglas Brown, L. Wallace Brown and William Brown, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 6, at the Rose of Sharon Community Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Plinton-Curry Funeral Home in Westfield.
Eleanor Drummond, 98
Eleanor S. Drummond, 98, of Sandusky, Ohio, died on Monday, October 5, 1998 in the Lutheran Memorial Home in Sandusky.
Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on August 21, 1900, she had lived in Westfield for many years before moving to Sandusky in 1976.
Mrs. Drummond had been an elementary school teacher in Westfield prior to relocating to Ohio upon her retirement.
She was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ in Sandusky.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, James C. Drummond, in 1990; her parents, Homer and Emma Hanson Singlser, and a sister, Mildred Sawtelle.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Wallace of Sandusky and Constance Saylor of Sunnyvale, California; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by the QuickPark and Pfell Funeral Home in Sandusky.
Entombment was scheduled to take place at the Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Huron, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 905 East Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio or to the donor’s favorite charity.
Thelma Lasus, 79
Thelma Lasus, 79, of Marlboro died on Saturday, October 3, 1998 at the Princeton Medical Center in Princeton.
Born in New York City, Mrs. Lasus had lived in Union for 38 years before moving to Marlboro 12 years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, in March.
Surviving are two sons, Martin Lasus of Fanwood and Larry Lasus of Oceanside, California, and four grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels of Manalapan.
