World War II Medic; Served as a Union County Freeholder
Raymond Moore, 73, of Point Pleasant died Saturday, October 17, 1998 in the Department of Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care Center at East Orange.
Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, he had lived in Hillside and Scotch Plains before moving to Point Pleasant Beach 18 years ago.
He served in the United States Army during World War II as a medic.
He was a graduate of Seton Hall University and the Newark College of Engineering.
Mr. Moore was a sales manager with the Harrison Supply Company in East Newark for over 36 years.
He was a Republican and served as a Union County Freeholder from 1959 until 1965.
He was a coroner’s assistant with the Union County Medical Examiners Office from 1960 to 1980.
Mr. Moore was a 32nd degree mason of the Masonic Lodge Sekorkis, a Shriner and a member of the Republican Club of Point Pleasant Beach.
A Funeral Service was held yesterday, Wednesday, October 21, in the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.
Joseph P. Hagen, 79
Joseph P. Hagen, 79, of Whiting died Saturday, October 17, 1998 at Bayview Convalescent Center in Bayville.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Crestwood Village in Whiting in 1977.
Mr. Hagen was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He was a sales engineer for Pennsylvania Steel Foundry and Machine Company in Hamburg, Pennsylvania for 35 years before retiring in 1982.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Hagen, in 1984.
Surviving are a brother, Thomas Hagen of Houston, Texas; a sister, Helen Smith of Brick and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were handled by the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home in Whiting.
Alfred C. Ravenell, 57
Alfred C. Ravenell, 57, of Westfield died on Tuesday, October 13, 1998 at home.
Born in Summerville, South Carolina, he had lived in Rahway before moving to Westfield 28 years ago.
Mr. Ravenell was Maintenance Director of the Westfield YMCA for 23 years.
A United States Army veteran, he served in the Vietnam War.
Surviving are a daughter, Celena Lampkin, and a brother, Malcolm Ravenell.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 17, at the Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Rahway.
Arrangements were handled by the Jones Funeral Home in Rahway.
Doris Botwinick
Was Painter and Sculptor, Won many Awards in Metropolitan Area Shows
Doris Botwinick, 72, of Cranbury died Sunday, October 18, 1998 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Kearny and Westfield before moving to Cranbury in 1995.
Mrs. Botwinick had earned a bachelor of arts degree from Kean College in 1963.
She taught history and philosophy at Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield in the 1960s.
She was the Past President of the Riker Hill Artists Community in Essex County.
She also served as Vice President of the Sculptor Society of New Jersey and was a member of the Princeton Art Association.
Her work of stone and oil paintings has been shown at Knickerbocker Club, Lever House, Salmagundi Club, Gallery 84 and the Phoenix Gallery, all of New York City.
Other showings of her work included the Morris Museum, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Schering-Plough corporate headquarters, the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts, Arts Judaica in Plainfield, the Livingston Public Library and the New Jersey School of Visual Arts, all of New Jersey.
She received critical acclaim for her sculptures in The Star-Ledger, Artspeak and the New York Times publications.
She won many awards in shows throughout the metropolitan area.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, George Botwinick; two sons, Howard Botwinick of Ithaca, New York and Philip Botwinick of Los Angeles, California; a daughter, Geri Botwinick of Maplewood; two sisters, Shirley Schwartz of Watchung and Phyllis Slavin of Cliffside Park and four grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, October 20, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Albert Fetzer, Jr.
Was Army Lieutenant; Retired Executive With Truck Company
Albert C. Fetzer, Jr., 81, of Scotch Plains died on Wednesday, October 14, 1998 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Bayonne on December 18, 1916, the son of the late Albert C. and Harriet Payne Fetzer, he had lived in Westfield before moving to Scotch Plains.
Mr. Fetzer retired in 1973 as Vice President of Sales for Paterson Mack Trucks in Paterson, where he had worked for more than 45 years.
He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II.
Surviving are a son, Alan C. Fetzer of Eugene, Oregon; a daughter, Diane F. Novello of Scotch Plains; a brother, William Fetzer of Ramsey, and four grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, October 18.
Arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Florence Moscetti, 82
Florence Santo Salvo Moscetti, 82, of Middlesex died on Sunday, October 18, 1998 at her son’s home in Raritan Borough.
Born in Scotch Plains, she had lived in Middlesex since 1945.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Moscetti was a member of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church in Middlesex.
She was predeceased by her brother, Nicholas Santo Salvo, and three sisters, Laura Tullo, Elizabeth Pietro Paolo and Edith Grausso.
Surviving are her husband, Louis N. Moscetti, Sr.; a son, Louis N. Moscetti, Jr. of Raritan Borough; three daughters, Rita Bahooshian of Bridgewater, and Lois Santillo and Joyce Fitzgerald, both of Middlesex; two brothers, Wilbur Santo Salvo and Anthony Santo Salvo; four sisters, Victoria Caruso, Marie Haller, Gloria Geschwindner and Jean Serina, and seven grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, October 21, at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Somerset Medical Center Hospice.
Robert Oppmann, Jr.
Robert W. Oppmann, Jr., 32, of South Plainfield died on Sunday, October 18, 1998 in the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Fanwood before moving to South Plainfield two years ago.
Mr. Oppmann was an automobile mechanic for Brian’s Auto in Garwood for more than two years.
Prior to that, he had worked in the same capacity for Sevell’s Auto in Westfield for eight years.
Surviving is his wife, Cynthia Oppmann.
A Funeral Mass will be offered today, Thursday, October 22, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Garwood.
Arrangements are being handled by the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue in Cranford.
Randi Couse, 49
Randi Couse, 49, of Mountainside died on Monday, October 19, 1998 in the ManorCare Health Services in Mountainside.
Born in Queens, New York, she had lived in Hackensack before moving to Mountainside 11 years ago.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur Couse; her mother, Renee Cymes, and a sister, Meryl Wieder.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, October 22, at 11:15 a.m. in Beth El Cemetery in Emerson.
