Joseph A. Kolibas, 77
Army Veteran; Was Machinist at Singer for 41 Years
Joseph A. Kolibas, 77, of Westfield died on Friday, October 16, 1998 at the Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare Network in Westfield.
Born in Czechoslovakia, he had come to the United States in 1937 and settled in Elizabethport.
He had lived in Jersey City and later in Roselle Park for 15 years before moving to Westfield 35 years ago.
Mr. Kolibas was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in Italy, Southern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe.
He had been a machinist for 41 years at the Singer Manufacturing Company in Elizabeth prior to retiring in 1992.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Margaret Balas Kolibas; a daughter, Lorraine Kolibas of Plainfield; three sons, Ron Kolibas of Middlesex Borough, Alan Kolibas of Garwood and Robert Kolibas of Westfield, and five grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy took place on Tuesday, October 20, at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment was held at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
George L. Voget, 50
Sales Director; SP-FHS Alumnus Coached Athletics
George L. Voget, 50, of Clinton Township died on Thursday, September 24, 1998 in Easton Hospital in Easton, Pennsylvania.
Born in Irvington, he had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Clinton Township.
He attended Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, where he was a quarterback on the football team, and graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in business.
He was employed as a Director of Sales for Victaulic in Easton, Pennsylvania, where he had worked for 24 years.
Mr. Voget was a United States Army veteran.
He was a member of the American Legion of Scotch Plains and was an artillery instructor at West Point.
He also coached community athletics in Clinton Township, including girls’ softball, soccer and basketball, and played in local softball leagues.
He was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Donohue Voget.
Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Evelyn C. Coe Voget; a daughter, Kristen Voget of Clinton Township; his father, George R. Voget; a brother, Michael Voget, and a sister, Mary Ellen Miller.
Funeral services were held on Monday, September 28, at the Martin Funeral Home in Clinton.
Interment followed at Locust Grove Cemetery in Quakertown.

C. Maynard Turner, 98
C. Maynard Turner, 98, of Green Valley, Arizona died on Thursday, October 15, 1998.
Born in Chicago, he had lived in Westfield and in Western North Carolina before moving to Green Valley in 1995.
Mr. Turner graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle.
He had worked for EBASCO Services in New York City from 1930 to 1950, and later joined the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company. He retired in 1965.
He was a Deacon and Elder of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Surviving are a daughter, Annette Marsland of Raleigh, North Carolina; a son, David M. Turner of Huntington Beach, California; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Private services at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield were arranged through the Green Valley Mortuary and Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or to Junior Achievement.
Natalie S. Smith
Founder and President Of Insurance Agency in Westfield
Natalie Sidman Smith of Stanton died on Friday, October 16, 1998 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington.
Born in Montclair on August 13, 1907, she had lived in Westfield from 1947 to 1973 before moving to Stanton 25 years ago.
Mrs. Smith graduated in 1929 from Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia with a degree in biology.
She had been founder and President of the Lee Smith Insurance Agency in Westfield, retiring in 1975.
She was a Past President of the Westfield College Women’s Club, and was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Stanton Reformed Church, the Stanton Holly Trail, the South Branch Watershed, and the Stanton Rug Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert L. Smith, Jr., in 1978 and by a son, Herbert L. Smith, 3rd, in 1961.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda S. Stedman of Stanton; a son, Gordon G. Smith of Ringoes; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 24, at 2 p.m. at the Stanton Church.
Interment will be in Mahwah at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by the Rogers Funeral Home in Trenton.

John T. Heitman, 63
John Thomas Heitman, 63, of Lexington, North Carolina, formerly of Westfield, died on Wednesday, October 14, 1998 at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.
He was born in Lewiston, Maine on July 2, 1935, the son of Felix Hughes and Fredrika Potter Heitman.
Mr. Heitman had worked for the Keebler Cracker Company before retiring, and was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church.
He served in the United States Marine Corp.
Surviving are two sons, Kurt Heitman of Fountain, Colorado and John Heitman of Lompoc, California; a daughter, Kelly Heitman of San Diego, California; a sister, Gretchen Wagner of Glen Gardner, and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, October 20, at St. Peter Episcopal Church in Washington.
Arrangements were handled by the Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.
Mark T. Jenkins, 35
Mark T. Jenkins, 35, a lifelong resident of Westfield, died on Monday, October 19, 1998 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Mr. Jenkins became a corrections officer in 1990 and had worked at the Union County Jail in Elizabeth.
He was predeceased by his father, Gary Jenkins.
Surviving are his mother, Joyce Pretlow of Westfield; a brother, Brandon Pretlow of Westfield, and two sisters, Tracey Sey of Somerset and Shonda Jenkins of Plainfield.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, October 23, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Westfield. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, October 22, at the Plinton-Curry Funeral Home in Westfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Chapter of the Leukemia Society of America in Elizabeth.
Mr. and Mrs. Vito Frisco, Both 78
Co-Owners of Newark Luncheonette
Vito Frisco, 78, died Sunday, October 18, 1998 in Overlook Hospital in Summit, and his wife, Mary Frisco, also 78, died Friday, October 16, 1998 in the Manor Care Health Center in Mountainside.
Mrs. Frisco was born in Elizabeth, and Mr. Frisco was born in Newark.
After marrying, the couple had lived in Newark and moved to Mountainside 20 years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Frisco had been co-owners of the Frisco Luncheonette in the Ironbound Section of Newark for 30 years prior to retiring 13 years ago.
Surviving are a daughter, Roseanne Giordano, and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Frisco is also survived by a brother, Frank Marino, and three sisters, Lena Saluccio, Grace Citarella and Helen Hoydich.
A Funeral Mass for the couple will be offered tomorrow, Friday, October 23, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside, following the funeral from the Galante Funeral Home in Union.
Steven J. Sussko, 80
Purchasing Agent For the City of Newark for Many Years
Steven J. Sussko, Sr., 80, of Hyannis, Massachusetts died on Monday, April 5, 1999 in Hyannis.
Born in Newark, he moved to Mountainside in 1953 and then to Hyannis last month.
Mr. Sussko had served as the purchasing agent for the City of Newark for many years before retiring in 1975.
Previously, he had been employed by the Hyatt Roller Bearing Division of General Motors in New Jersey.
He was a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside, where he served as an usher, organized bingo games, and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He was also active with the Fathers Club of Mount Saint Mary's Academy in North Plainfield, and with the Parents Club at Oratory Prep in Summit.
Mr. Sussko was a volunteer firefighter with the Mountainside Volunteer Fire Department.
He served on the Advisory Board of Managers for John E. Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County, and as Chairman in 1979 and 1982.
While living in Mountainside, Mr. Sussko was active in Democratic politics for many years, serving as a Committeeman and Municipal Chairman in 1973 and 1974 for Union County.
He was appointed as Director of Administration for the Union County Democratic Organization in 1976, and inducted into the Chairman's Club in 1978.
He served six years in the United States Army and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1941.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary M. Sussko; two daughters, Marilyn Sussko-Reinhart and Mary Jane Sussko; two sons, Steven J. Sussko, Jr. and Roger Sussko; a brother, Joe Sussko; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A Mass was offered on Monday, April 12, in Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, Massachusetts.
Arrangements were handled by the Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis.
