Yolanda M. Pellegrino, 83, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at home.
Born in Trenton, she had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Plainfield in 1952.
Mrs. Pellegrino was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore Pellegrino, in 1996.
Surviving are three sons, John Pellegrino, James Pellegrino and Jerry Pellegrino; three sisters, Angelina Yanuzzi, Frances Idore and Jean Bascelli, and a grandchild.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, April 10, at St. Bernard's Church, following services at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
Elizabeth J. Svalesen, 86
Was Cook In School District for Many Years
Elizabeth J. Tyburski Svalesen, 86, of Westfield died on Wednesday, April 7, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, she had lived in Brooklyn before moving to Westfield 30 years ago.
Mrs. Svalesen had been a cook for the Westfield school district for many years before retiring 10 years ago.
She was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband, Mat Svalesen; a daughter, Dolores Millering of Toms River; a son, Henry Kempczynski of Brooklyn; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, April 10, at the Holy Trinity Church.
Interment took place at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Westfield Rescue Squad.
Anna Abruzzo, 95
Former Seamstress For Many Companies in Newark Area
Anna Abruzzo, 95, of Westfield died on Tuesday, April 6, 1999 in the Meridian Nursing Center in Westfield.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Hillside and in Roselle Park before moving to Westfield seven years ago.
Miss Abruzzo had been a seamstress for several companies in the Newark area for 30 years before retiring 30 years ago.
She was a member of the Amalgamated Ladies Garment Workers Union in Newark.
Surviving are three brothers, William Abruzzo, Gerald Abruzzo and Charles Abruzzo, and two sisters, Veronica Labella and Lillian Anzalone.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, April 10, in St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Galante Funeral Home in Union.
Evelyn Petry, 78
Evelyn Petry, 78, of Holiday City Berkeley died on Tuesday, April 6, 1999 in the Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Holiday City Berkeley 13 years ago.
Mrs. Petry was a former member of the Rosary Society of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
She had also volunteered with the Watchung Girl Scout Council and was a former leader with the Girl Scouts in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Petry, Sr.; a son, Joseph Petry, Jr.; a daughter, Gail Tynan; two sisters, Dorothy Geiger and Helen Hermann, and five grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, April 10, in St. Joseph's Church in Toms River.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Toms River.

Mary Shevlin, 86, of Westfield died on Wednesday, April 7, 1999 in Rahway Hospital.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Irvington, Union and Colonia before moving to Westfield three years ago.
Mrs. Shevlin had been a packer with the Red Devil Company in Union for five years before retiring in 1973.
She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Maplewood.
Surviving are four sons, Robert Shevlin, Jack Shevlin, Raymond Shevlin and Richard Shevlin; a sister, Rose O'Mahoney; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Friday, April 9, in St. Joseph's Church.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Gosselin Funeral Home in Edison.

Dorothy J. Mulvaney Lane, 54, of South Plainfield died on Saturday, April 10, 1999 at home.
Born in East Orange, she had lived in Linden before settling in South Plainfield 27 years ago.
Mrs. Lane was a member and longterm president of the South Plainfield Library Board before retiring nine years ago.
She was a former member and past president of the South Plainfield Junior Women's Club and received the former South Plainfield Jaycees Outstanding Woman of the Year award in 1980.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield and was a teacher in the church's Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program.
She had graduated from St. Mary's High School in Elizabeth.
Surviving are her husband, William V. Lane; two daughters, Kelly C. Butrico of South Plainfield and Jennifer L. Bensulock of Scotch Plains; one son, William R. Lane of Mountainside; her mother, Dorothy Kavka and her stepfather, Paul Kavka, both of South Plainfield; two brothers, Raymond Mullvaney of Surf City and Michael Mullvaney of Hopewell Junction; and five grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, April 13, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield.
Arrangements were handled by McCriskin Home for Funerals in South Plainfield.

Mrs. Berzanskis was a receptionist for the RCA Corp. in Harrison for many years before retiring in 1972.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Berzanskis; two sons, Jerome Berzanskis and Paul Berzanskis; and four grandchildren.

Born in East Orange, she had lived in Plainfield since 1910.
Mrs. Scott had worked in the fashion industry for many years before retiring in 1971.
She was a partner in Clifford W. Gay, a resident buyer firm located in New York.
She was a member of Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield and a charter member of Plainfield Junior League.
She was a captain in the Red Cross during World War II.
She had graduated from Plainfield Seminary and Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Scott Burner of Scotch Plains; a niece, Shirley Burke Cunningham of Charlottesville, Virginia; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 14, at Rosedale Cemetery in Orange.
Arrangements were handled by Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood.
