Joan Looney Purcell, 66, of Westfield died on Friday, August 4, 2000 in Father Hudson House in Elizabeth.
Born in Newark, she lived in Westfield for many years.
Mrs. Purcell had been employed as a school nurse by the Union Board of Education for 40 years before retiring in 1996.
She graduated from Jersey City State Teachers College and the Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing.
She was a member of the Forest Hills Field Club, the National Education Association and the New Jersey Education Association.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Purcell, in August of 1996.
Surviving are a sister, Michele Artz of San Francisco, and a brother, Don Looney of Dana Point, Calif.
Private services were arranged by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to Father Hudson House, 111 DeHart Place, Elizabeth, 07202.

Marian C. Coakley, 59
Marian C. Coakley, 59, of Elizabeth died on Friday, August 4, 2000 in Union Memorial Hospital.
Born in Plainfield, she had lived in Westfield before relocating to Elizabeth 42 years ago.
Mrs. Coakley owned, along with members of her family, the Silver Mirror Bar and Grill in Elmora for many years.
Services were held on Tuesday, August 8, in the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.

Beatrice Leib, 77
Was Teacher and Aide In Westfield and Linden Public Schools
Beatrice Leib, 77, of Westfield died on Thursday, August 3, 2000 in the Berkeley Heights Convalescent Center in Berkeley Heights.
Born in Linden, she moved to Westfield 36 years ago.
Mrs. Leib had been a teacher’s aide in the Westfield school system for many years before retiring.
Prior to that, she was a mathematics teacher in the Linden school system for many years.
She earned her teaching degree from the University of Wisconsin.
She was a member of the Sisterhood of Congregation Anshe Chesed in Linden.
Surviving are two daughters, Dina Leib and Molly Leib; two sons, Jonathan Leib and Philip Leib, and four grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday, August 5, in Congregation Anshe Chesed.
Arrangements were handled by Kreitzman’s Memorial Home in Union.

Kathleen A. Bennett, 95
Kathleen A. Daly Bennett, 95, of Westfield died on Sunday, August 6, 2000 at home.
Born in County Roscommon, Ireland, she came to the United States in 1925, settling in New York City.
She lived there for many years before relocating to North Brunswick, where she resided for 25 years, eventually moving to Westfield in 1995.
Mrs. Bennett was active in the League of the Sacred Heart in St. Elizabeth Church in New York City.
She was predeceased by her husband, James E. Bennett, in 1999, and by a son, James E. Bennett, and a daughter, Mary Bennett.
Surviving are four daughters, Catherine Andriessen of Englishtown, Dorothy Barry of Schroon Lake, N.Y., Joan Miller of Westfield and Maureen Helbig of Irvington, N.Y.; a sister, Lilly Harte of Keadue, Ireland; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered yesterday, Wednesday, August 9, in St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment took place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, N.Y.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue in Cranford.
Memorial donations may be made to the Center For Hope Hospice, 176 Hussa Street, Linden, 07036.

Max Savin, 89
Max Savin, 89, of Mountainside died on Monday, August 7, 2000 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Cranford before moving to Mountainside in 1990.
Mr. Savin was a self-employed commercial real estate developer. He had also been a partner in Tina Star Stables in Cranford.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Schram; a son, William Savin; a brother, Mayer Savin; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services were held yesterday, Wednesday, August 9, in Bernheim-Apter-Goldsticker Suburban Funeral Chapel in Maplewood.

Edward W. Vlasaty, 76
Was Banker For Many Years at Chase Manhattan
Edward W. Vlasaty, 76, of Fanwood died on Friday, August 4, 2000 at the Greenbrook Manor Nursing Home in Green Brook.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., he had lived there prior to moving to Fanwood in 1956.
Mr. Vlasaty had been employed as a banker with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City for more than 30 years before retiring as Vice President in 1980.
He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Mr. Vlasaty was a member of the American Arbitration Association, the American Legion and St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
He was predeceased by his wife, Madlynne Veil Vlasaty, in 1984.
Surviving are a daughter, Lin Vlasaty of Somerville; two sisters, Elizabeth Muzic of Ohio and Rosemary Antoniou of Florida, and a brother, John Vlasaty of Johnstown.
Services were held on Monday, August 7, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Interment took place at Grand View Cemetery in Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 815, Elizabeth, 07207.

Wendy Pastuzyn, 41
Wendy L. Pastuzyn, 41, of Westfield died on Sunday, August 6, 2000 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Plainfield, she had lived in Cranford and Roselle before moving to Westfield a year ago.
Mrs. Pastuzyn was the manager of Act-Media in Union for seven years.
Previously, she had managed the Off The Record store in Cranford.
Surviving are her husband, Gregory Pastuzyn; a daughter, Juliana C. Pastuzyn; two sons, Max B. Pastuzyn and Samuel L. Pastuzyn; her parents, Stanley and Muriel Mintz; two sisters, Randi J. Mintz and Judith R. Skrill, and a brother, Dr. Robert D. Mintz.
Services were held on Tuesday, August 8, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Interment took place at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.

Stanley Blyskal, 78
Was Letter Carrier; Army Veteran Received Purple Heart
Stanley J. Blyskal, 78, of Mountainside died on Friday, August 4, 2000 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Mountainside for 15 years.
Mr. Blyskal had been a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in Linden for 15 years before retiring in 1989.
Previously, he had been employed as an office worker with Alcoa in Garwood for five years.
Prior to that, had been an office worker with General Motors Corporation in Linden for five years.
Mr. Blyskal served in the United States Army during World War II with the 44th Division in Europe and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Surviving are three sisters, Stella Malme, Genevieve Malik and Frances Reid, and two brothers, Michael Blyskal and Edward Blyskal.
A Mass was offered on Tuesday, August 8, in St. Adalbert’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth, following the funeral from the Werson Funeral Home in Linden.
