Stella M. Winter, 68
Stella M. Winter, 68, of Sugarmill Woods, Florida died on Saturday, September 19, 1998 at home.
Born in Canada, she had lived in Mountainside before moving to Sugarmill Woods nine years ago.
Mrs. Winter had been a software representative with the Olivetti Corporation in Mountainside before retiring.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur Winter; three sons, Mark Chisman, Jeff Chisman and Skip Winter; a daughter, Jennifer Winter; four brothers, Claire Evans, Merle Evans, Jack Evans and Fred Evans; two sisters, Alice Wehlann and Major Florence Sharples, and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 10:45 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside.
Arrangements are being handled by the Fero Funeral Home in Beverly Hills, Florida.
Cornelius Goense, Jr.
Cornelius L. Goense Jr., 70, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., died on Sunday, January 16, 2000 at Memorial Hospital in Pembroke Pines.
Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., he had lived in Roselle for many years before relocating to Pembroke Pines 15 years ago.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Goense had been employed by Overlook Hospital in Summit as a groundskeeper for 10 years before retiring in 1985.
Prior to that, he had worked for Allen Packing in Linden as a butcher for more than 20 years.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 11410 in Pembroke Pines.
He was predeceased by two sons, Jeffrey Goense in 1974 and Donald K. Goense in 1996.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Constance Bellis-Goense; two daughters, Deborah Goense of Linden and Laura Ann Branch of Hainesport; a sister, Betty Lou Toth of South Plainfield; a brother, James Goense of Mountainside, and three grandchildren.
Services were held at Thursday, January 20, at the Werson Funeral Home in Linden, followed by a Mass at St. Joseph the Carpenter Roman Catholic Church in Roselle.
Burial was at Clover Leaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge.
Renata Blechinger, 86
Renata M. Blechinger, 86, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at Genesis ElderCare The Woodlands in Plainfield.
Born on March 20, 1913 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, she was the daughter of Paolo Milchersich, a Triestine lumber expert, and Leopoldine Achleitner, a member of a prominent Viennese family.
Mrs. Blechinger married her husband, Reinhold Blechinger, in Celje, Yugoslavia.
She and her family fled to Austria during World War II.
Mrs. Blechinger had worked for a number of international refugee organizations in Salzburg before emigrating to the United States in 1957.
She had lived in Cranford before moving to Plainfield.
She had a career for more than 30 years in the travel business before retiring in 1978.
Mrs. Blechinger attended the Conservatory of Music in Frankfurt, Germany.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1968 and earlier by a son, Reinhold Blechinger.
Surviving are another son, Peter Blechinger of Scotch Plains; three granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
Private funeral services were held at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity in Plainfield.
Richard Graves, Sr., 81
Richard Walker Graves, Sr., 81, of Plainfield died on Monday, January 17, 2000 at the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge.
Born on September 16, 1918, in Cochran, Va., he was the eldest son of the late Cordelia and Lewis Graves.
Mr. Graves had been employed for many years at the Westfield Department of Public Works until his retirement in 1984.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in parts of Europe and North Africa.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Ann Ward, in 1981.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary Faye Graves; a son, Richard W. Graves, Jr. of Old Bridge; two daughters, Wendy Cross of Plainfield and Odessa Timpanaro of Manalapan; seven brothers, Harry Graves, Sr. and Joseph Graves, Sr., both of Westfield, James Graves, Sr. of Scotch Plains, Howard Graves, Sr. of North Plainfield, Jessie Graves, Sr. of Hampton, Va., George Graves, Sr. of South Plainfield and Thomas Graves, Sr. of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Shirley Johnson of Scotch Plains and Harriet Dance of Newport News, Va., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 21, at the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Scotch Plains.
Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Pearl Dreskin, 79
Pearl Dreskin, 79, of Somerset died on Wednesday, January 19, 2000 in the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset.
Born in Newark, Mrs. Dreskin had lived in Colonia and Westfield before moving to Somerset in 1998.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Dreskin.
Surviving are a daughter, Sherri Bruder; a son, Jerold Dreskin; a sister, Dinah Cartine; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services were held on Friday, January 21, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Fred Ginsburg
Fred Ginsburg of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, January 18, 2000 in Hollywood Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Fla.
Born in Brooklyn, he had lived in Springfield and Mountainside before moving to Scotch Plains.
He also maintained a residence in Hallendale, Fla.
Mr. Ginsburg had co-owned Joseph Redegeld Inc. Wholesale Stationary in Elizabeth for 45 years before retiring in 1991.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne Shtrax Ginsburg.
Surviving are a son, Stephen Ginsburg, and a grandchild.
Services were held on Friday, January 21, in Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, N.Y.
Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Elizabeth F. Jones, 70
Elizabeth F. Jones, 70, of Lambertville died on Wednesday, January 19, 2000 in the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township.
Born in Westfield on August 13, 1929, the daughter of the late Werner and Hattie Frickman, she had lived there and in Green Brook, Wilmington, Del. and Bayville before moving to Lambertville 15 years ago.
She had worked as a telephone operator for many years and was last employed by Sears Roebuck Store in Wilmington, Del.
Surviving are two sons, R. Dean Jones of Flemington and Russell Glenn Jones of Castleton, Vt.; a daughter, Janet Marr of Hubbardton, Vt.; a brother, Werner Frickman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Louise Davies of Long Neck, Del., and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, January 22, at the Holcombe Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington.
Interment was private.
Kenneth Morris, 84
Choir Member; Conducted Pioneering Work With Esso
Kenneth G. Morris, 84, of Aiken, S. C., died on Monday, January 17, 2000 at his home.
Born in Evans City, Pa., the son of the late Miles G. and Bertha Sharp Morris, he had lived in Westfield before relocating to Aiken.
Mr. Morris had been a chemical engineer with Exxon for 42 years before retiring.
He did pioneering work at the Esso Research Center in Linden, participating in the development of chemical or catalytic processes for the production of high quality lubricants, aviation gasoline and jet fuels.
During his career, he was also instrumental in the development of new products from or uses for asphalt, resins and wax.
Mr. Morris was a member of a church choir in Westfield for 40 years and traveled throughout Europe with the group.
He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the Academy for lifelong learning at the University of South Carolina at Aiken, as well as the 50-Plus Club, the Senior Men’s Club and the choir at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Nutt Morris; two sons, Kenneth G. Morris, Jr. of Denver, Colo. and Jeffrey J. Morris of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Melinda M. Stahlman of Jamesburg; a brother, Miles G. Morris, Jr. of Evans City, Pa.; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, January 20, at St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Interment was private.
