Gladys Vogl-Earl
Had Owned Salon; Was Hairdresser for Over 52 Years
Gladys Marie Vogl-Earl of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, September 9, 2000 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Hoboken, she had lived in Westfield before relocating to Scotch Plains 10 years ago.
A hairdresser and colorist for more than 52 years, Mrs. Vogl-Earl was employed by Tullio’s Hair Spectrum in Westfield for the past 24 years.
She formerly owned the Continental Coiffures in Linden for 10 years.
She was a graduate of the Wilford Beauty Academy in Newark and attended Jersey City State College in Jersey City.
Mrs. Vogl-Earl was a parishioner at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
She was also a member of the Women’s Club of Westfield and the Deutscher Club of Clark and was a volunteer at the Center For Hope Hospice in Linden.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Carl Nelson Vogl, in 1959 and by her second husband, Henry J. Earl, in 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Gladys Marie Tullio of Scotch Plains, Joyce Palmisano of Colts Neck and Sandy J. Whiteford of Edison; a brother, Conrad Becker of Parsippany, and six grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was offered on Tuesday, September 12, in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Interment took place at St. Teresa’s Cemetery in Summit.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Edward Corson, 68
Coach and Veteran Was Owner of Athletic Lettering Firm
Edward Corson, 68, of Mountainside died on Friday, September 8, 2000 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Roselle Park before moving to Mountainside 14 years ago.
Mr. Corson had owned Corson’s Athletic Lettering, a silk screening company in High Bridge, for 15 years before retiring three years ago.
He previously was employed as a foreman for Westinghouse Corporation in Newark for 25 years.
Mr. Corson graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.
He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Air Force’s traveling softball team.
He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Union, as well as Past President of the Little League baseball team during the 1970s, a coach for the Recreational Basketball team and a member of American Legion Post No. 60, all of Roselle Park.
Surviving are his wife, Florence Corson; three sons, Edward J. Corson, Robert W. Corson and Jeffrey R. Corson; a daughter, Linda Curry; a brother, Robert Corson, and six grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Tuesday, September 12, in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth, following the funeral from the Mastapeter Funeral Home in Roselle Park.
Julia Piscopo, 79
Julia Piscopo, 79, a lifelong resident of Westfield, died on Friday, September 8, 2000 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Mrs. Piscopo, a graduate of Westfield High School, was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church and of the Sunshine Club, both in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband, Nicholas J. Piscopo, Sr.; a son, Nicholas J. Piscopo, Jr.; two sisters, Esther Furino and Marie Merkler; a brother, Peter Sisto, and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, September 11, in the Holy Trinity Church.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Jeanne Griffin, 81
President of Twig; Was Member of St. Paul’s Altar Guild
Jeanne Goetzfried Griffin, 81, of Moorestown died on Saturday, September 9, 2000 at The Evergreens Episcopal Home in Moorestown.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she had lived in Maplewood and Scotch Plains before relocating to Moorestown.
Mrs. Griffin was the first President and founder of the Larch Twig of Muhlenberg Hospital Auxiliary in Plainfield.
She was a volunteer for 30 years with the Twig and was recognized for volunteering more than 4, 000 hours.
A graduate of Columbia High School in South Orange-Maplewood, she also attended La Salle University in Philadelphia.
She was a former member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Altar Guild in Westfield, the Westfield Colonial Chapter of Questors and the Plainfield Country Club.
Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church of Moorestown.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gifford Griffin.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary L. Canniff of Scotch Plains and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, with interment to take place in St. Paul’s Garth in Westfield.

Hugh B. Gregory, 78
Hugh B. Gregory, 78, of Palm Coast, Fla. died on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 in the Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Palm Coast 28 years ago.
Mr. Gregory had been a self-employed food broker in New Jersey before retiring in 1972.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II with the First Marine Division Air Corps in the Pacific.
He received an Asiatic Campaign Medal, an American Campaign Medal, a Liberty Medal and a China Service Medal.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, September 14, in the Smith and Smith (Suburban) in Springfield.
Anna Fusco, 89
Anna Fusco, 89, of Mountainside died on Monday, September 11, 2000 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Italy, she had lived in Madison before moving to Mountainside 42 years ago.
Surviving are a son, John Fusco, Jr.; five sisters, Rose Yonker, Minnie Calabria, Sue Di Lauri, Parme Di Lauri and Angie Damiano; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, September 14, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside, following the funeral from the Madison Memorial Home in Madison.
Georgia Colonias, 71
Church Founder Was Honored As ‘Mother of the Year’
Georgia Colonias, 71, of Mountainside died on Monday, September 11, 2000 at home.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Westfield before relocating to Mountainside.
Mrs. Colonias was a founder of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, where she was a member of the Board of Trustees and the Ladies Philoptochos Society.
She received the “Good Friend Award” for her involvement in the church’s youth programs and was honored as Holy Trinity’s “Mother of the Year.”
Surviving are two sons, George Colonias and James Colonias.
Services were held yesterday, Wednesday, September 13, in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

Michael Wilhelm, 80
Michael Wilhelm, 80, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died on Thursday, September 7, 2000 in Mount Diablo Hospital in Concord, Calif.
Born in Linden, he had lived in Elizabeth and in Fanwood before relocating to Port Charlotte 18 years ago.
Mr. Wilhelm had been a machinist with General Motors before retiring in 1980.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10476 in Englewood, Fla.
He also was a volunteer with Meals On Wheels, also in Englewood.
Surviving are two sons, Kim Wilhelm and Lance Wilhelm; two sisters, Rose Duvivier and Lena Schmiedeskamp, and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, September 15, in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
Arrangements are being handled by the Englewood Community Funeral Home in Englewood.
