Margaret Croag, 76
Margaret Willis Croag, 76, of Montesano, Wash. died on Tuesday, April 11, 2000 in Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Wash.
Born on May 16, 1923 in Melbourne, Wash., the daughter of Clarence and Lula Belle Goss Willis, she had lived in Montesano and in Scotch Plains for 52 years before returning to Montesano in 1996.
Mrs. Croag had been employed as a registered nurse for more than 30 years before retiring.
She also served in the United States Navy as a nurse from 1942 to 1945.
A 1940 graduate of Montesano High School, she also earned a degree from St. Peter’s School of Nursing in Olympia, Wash. in 1942.
She was predeceased in July by her husband, Roy A. Croag, whom she married on October 21, 1945.
Surviving are five daughters, Karen Bowes of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., April Arnesen of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Kristen Paparella of Scotch Plains, Ellen Ferrara of New Orleans, La. and Margaret Dettelbach of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; a brother, Raymond Willis of Montesano; a sister, Dolores Jordan of Ocean Shores, Wash., and 11 grandchildren.
A graveside service of interment took place on Saturday, April 15, in the Wynooche Cemetery in Montesano.
Arrangements were under the direction of Cascade Services of Washington at Aberdeen.

Gertrude Fischer, 81
Gertrude Bloom Fischer, 81, died on Sunday, April 16, 2000 at the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Elizabeth, Spotswood and East Brunswick before becoming a resident of the Jewish Home last April.
She was a member of ORT.
Surviving are a son, Bruce Fischer of East Brunswick; a daughter, Alyce Fischer of Scotch Plains; a sister, Evelyn Fuer of Commack, N.Y., and four grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, April 18, at Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels in East Brunswick, followed by interment at Beth Abraham Cemetery, also in East Brunswick.

Helmut Moesch, 59 and Susan Moesch, 45
Utah Couple Had Been Westfield Residents
Helmut Karl Moesch, 59, and Susan Moesch, 45, of Sandy, Utah died at the scene of an automobile accident on Friday, April 7, 2000 in Nephi, Utah.
Mr. Moesch was born in Germany, while Mrs. Moesch was born on Staten Island and had formerly lived in New Providence and Bridgewater.
The couple had resided in Westfield before moving to Sandy three years ago.
Mr. Moesch was employed as a chef at Utah Foods in Salt Lake City in Utah and studied and apprenticed as a chef in Germany.
He was a member of the Deutscher Club in Clark.
Mrs. Moesch was an administrative laboratory director for the Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
She graduated from the University of New Hampshire and Rutgers University in New Brunswick, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from each school.
Mr. Moesch is survived by two sons, Andreas Moesch and Joe Moesch, and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Moesch is survived by her mother, Marie Tarantino, and two brothers, George Tarantino and Thomas Tarantino Jr.
The funeral was held on Saturday, April 15 at the Brough Funeral Home in Summit, followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in New Providence.
Interment took place at Fair Mount Cemetery in Chatham.

Ethel G. Unverzagt, 81
Ethel G. Unverzagt, 81, of Wantage died on Friday, April 21, 2000 in the Andover Nursing Center.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Summit, Oak Ridge and Scotch Plains before moving to Wantage in 1992.
Mrs. Unverzagt had been employed as a secretary by United Counties (PNC) in Summit for 10 years, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Sussex Nutrition Site.
Surviving are a daughter, Anne Marie MacArthur; three sons, John C. Unverzagt, Richard H. Unverzagt and George A. Unverzagt; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A service was held on Monday, April 24, in the Pinkel Funeral Home in Sussex.
Elinor Sullivan, 85
Was Crossing Guard; Active With Altar Society, Quilting Club
Elinor Wassmer Sullivan, 85, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, April 22, 2000 at home.
Born in Verona, she had lived in Glenbrook, Conn. and Westfield before moving to Scotch Plains three years ago.
Mrs. Sullivan had been a school crossing guard at the intersections of Trinity Place and First Street and First Street and Rahway Avenue in Westfield for 20 years before retiring in 1974.
She was a member of the Altar Society of St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield and the Quilting Club of the Clark Free Public Library.
In addition, she was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels at the First Baptist Church in Westfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis A. V. Sullivan, in 1995.
Surviving are five sons, Robert Sullivan, Gregory Sullivan, Paul Sullivan, Jerry Sullivan and Joseph Sullivan; a daughter, Katherine Stites; a sister, May Fitzgerald; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy was offered on Tuesday, April 25, in St. Helen’s Church, following the funeral from the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Interment took place in Fairview Cemetery, also in Westfield.

Harvey P. Whitcomb, 92
Had Been Municipal Bond Sales Executive
Harvey P. Whitcomb, 92, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2000 at The Chelsea in Fanwood.
Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Plainfield and Westfield before moving to Fanwood last year.
Mr. Whitcomb had been a municipal bond sales executive with Wood, Struthers & Winthrop in New York City for 46 years before retiring in 1972.
The youngest member ever to be elected to the New York Curb Exchange, he was a member of the Municipal Bond Club in New York City and the Hartford Bond Club.
Mr. Whitcomb served as Chairman of the Plainfield Community Chest and the Plainfield Republican Club and as President of the Netherwood Tennis Club in Plainfield.
He was also a member of the Board of Deacons of the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, the Booster Club of Plainfield High School, the Sons of the American Revolution and the Westfield Historical Society.
He was a former cubmaster and scoutmaster, and received the Outstanding Citizenship Award in 1975 from the Westfield Policemen’s Benevolent Association.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rebecca P. Whitcomb, in 1996.
Surviving are two sons, Edward P. Whitcomb of Williamsburg, Va. and Bruce H. Whitcomb of Berkeley Heights; a daughter, Sandra Danitz of Columbus; a sister, Helen Whitcomb of Westfield; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Arrangements are being handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Lydia M. Brunner, 82
Club Member Helped Raise Funds for Needy Youth
Lydia M. MacDonald Brunner, 82, of Westfield died on Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at the Brighton Gardens Assisted Living By Marriott in Mountainside.
Born in Westfield, she had lived there for most of her life. She had resided in Silver Spring, Md. during World War II.
Mrs. Brunner had been employed as a secretary for the Bank of New York in Manhattan for several years before her marriage. She then became a homemaker.
She had also worked as a nurses’ aide at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D. C. during World War II.
She attended a secretarial business school.
Mrs. Brunner was a member of the Plainfield Country Club, where she belonged to various women’s groups which raised money for needy children.
She was also a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, John E. Brunner, Sr., in 1995.
Surviving are a son, John E. Brunner, Jr. of Stratford, Conn.; two daughters, Pamela B. Wood of Tolland, Conn. and Karen Baily of Mountainside; a brother, Donald MacDonald of Bay Head; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 22, at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Albert G. Stalgaitis, 78
Albert G. Stalgaitis, 78, of Fanwood died on Thursday, April 20, 2000 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in McAdoo, Pa. to John and Mary Stalgaitis, he had lived in Orange before relocating to Fanwood 45 years ago.
Mr. Stalgaitis, who began his career as a machinist general for the former Metal Textile Corporation in Orange, had been employed for 45 years as a supervising engineer in development, production and maintenance with various corporations in central New Jersey. He retired from the Amloid Corporation in Saddlebrook in 1986.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.
Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Lea Marshall, whom he married on January 22, 1949; a son, Robert A. Stalgaitis of Upper Black Eddy, Pa.; a daughter, Patricia S. Courtright of Jersey Shore, Pa.; a sister, Eleanor Rickey of McAdoo, Pa.; a brother, Joseph Stalgaitis, also of McAdoo, and a granddaughter.
Private arrangements were under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
