Anthony Di Donato, 77
Retired Mason; Served in Army During World War II
Anthony J. Di Donato, 77, a lifelong resident of Scotch Plains, died on Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Mr. Di Donato had been a mason for more than 50 years before retiring in 1988.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Jean E. Di Donato; three sons, Gerry DiDonato, Anthony J. Di Donato, Jr. and Christopher Di Donato; a daughter, Shermane Gates; three sisters, Alice Kinkelman, Angie Osnato and Mary Louise Di Donato, and three grandchildren.
Private services were arranged by the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
Myrna Lovallo, 64
Myrna Lovallo, 64, of Scotch Plains died on Friday, October 20, 2000 at home.
Born in Hillside, she had lived in Irvington before moving to Scotch Plains in 1988.
Mrs. Lovallo had been a meat wrapper for 12 years at the Foodtown in Roselle before retiring in 1998.
Surviving are her husband, William Lovallo; a daughter, Theresa Mitchell; a brother, Franklin Masker; a sister, Priscilla Perlingero; her son-in-law, Peter Mitchell, and a grandson, Timothy Mitchell.
A Mass was offered on Monday, October 23, in St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield, following the funeral from the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
Richard Wilhelm, 86
Richard Wilhelm, 86, of Atco, died on Sunday, October 8, 2000 at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Stratford.
Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Mountainside before moving to Atco in 1995.
Employed by the Prudential Insurance Compnay in Newark since 1934, he retired as an auditor in 1971.
Mr. Wilhelm was a member of the Prudential Retired Employees Association, the Mountainside Senior Citizens, the Pythagoras Free and Accepted Masons lodge 118, and a German singing group in Elizabeth.
Surviving are his wife, Madeline Wilheim, and a sister, Mrs. Helen Schmidlein.
Services were held Thursday, October 12, at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung.
Kenneth J. Hopfel, 76
Kenneth J. Hopfel, 76, of Martinsville, died on Sunday, October 8, 2000 at Somerset Medical Center, Somerset.
Born in Scotch Plains, he lived in North Plainfield before moving to Martinsville 30 years ago.
Mr. Hopfel, owned Watertite Gutters Co. in Martinsville for 27 years. Earlier, he had been a carpenter for many years.
A technician in the Army during World War II, he was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.
Mr. Hopfel also participated in the Philippine Liberation.
Surviving are his wife, Isabelle Hopfel; two sons, Kenneth and Barry Hopfel; a daughter, Lindsay A. McHugh; a sister, Helen Lafferty, and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday, October 12 at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung.
Peggy Harris Lott, 74
Had Been Member Of College Club, Service League, Auxiliary
Peggy Harris Lott, 74, died on Monday, October 23, 2000 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.
Born in Birmingham, Ala., she had lived in Fanwood and Westfield before moving to the Arbor Glen Retirement Community in Bridgewater in 1997.
Mrs. Lott received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1947 from Randolph Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Va., where she had been a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority.
She was a member of the Westfield Service League, the Auxiliary of Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, the College Woman’s Club of Westfield, the Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, The Presbyterian Church in Westfield and the Gingo Twig of Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Surviving are her husband, Jeremiah A. Lott; two daughters, Patricia Adames Kelly of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. and Priscilla Harris Cafaro of Downingtown, Pa.; a son, Bruce Alan Lott of Orinda, Calif., and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Anne McWilliams, 76
Was President Of Republican Club in Westfield
Anne L. “Nance” McWilliams, 76, of Westfield died on Friday, October 20, 2000 in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Born in Pottstown, Pa., she lived in Westfield since 1945.
Mrs. McWilliams was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the Altar Guild and the Hospitality Committee.
She was a Past President of the Westfield Republican Club.
She was a 1943 graduate of Centenary College of Hackettstown.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Owen McWilliams; three daughters, Connie M. Wilson of Cupertino, Calif., Shelly A. Strunck of Clark and Patricia A. Walch of Cranford; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A gathering will be held today, Thursday, October 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, October 27, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Burial will take place in The St. Paul’s Garth following the service.
Arrangements are being handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

Helen Garrison, 85
Was Former Nurse; Served in European Theater During War
Helen Krystopik Garrison, 85, a former Westfield resident, died on Saturday, October 14, 2000 in San Diego, Calif.
Born in Manhattan on October 24, 1914, she had lived in Westfield from 1967 to 1995, later relocating to California.
After graduating from Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City in 1939, she joined the United States Army Nurse Corps, serving in the European Theater during World War II.
After the war, Mrs. Garrison had been employed as the night nurse for the New Departure Hyatt Bearings Division of General Motors in Clark until her retirement in 1980.
She was active with the Washington Rock Girl Scout Council and the Woman’s Club of Westfield and was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lee K. Garrison of Alexandria, Va. and Paula G. Tupper of El Cajon, Calif.; a brother, John A. Krystopik of North Plainfield, and two grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Thursday, October 19, at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in El Cajon.
Arrangements were under the direction of Caring Cremation Services of San Diego.

Lucille Ventre of Scotch Plains died on Monday, October 23, 2000 in the Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare Network in Westfield.
Born in Newark, she lived in Scotch Plains since 1962.
Surviving are two daughters, Anna M. Moura and Lucille Califano; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, October 26, in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, following the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
