Stella Kaplan Prehodka, 86, of South Plainfield, died Wednesday, November 11, 1998 at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Maryland.
Born in Bayonne, she had lived in South Plainfield for more than 70 years.
Mrs. Prehodka had worked at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield and later had worked as a quality control inspector for many years at Markay Bag Company of Plainfield before retiring more than 20 years ago.
She was a longtime member of the Ladies Garment Workers Union of New York City.
She was also an active member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Russian Orthodox Church in South Plainfield where she worked on its Pierogi Project.
Mrs. Prehodka was a member of the South Plainfield Senior Citizens and had marched with the organization for many years in the annual South Plainfield Labor Day Parade. She also worked with the Caring and Sharing Project in South Plainfield.
She was a member of the Plainfield Chapter of Deborah.
She was predeceased by her husband of more than 60 years, Charles Prehodka, in 1991, and by her son, Navy Chief Petty Officer (Ret.) Charles Prehodka.
Surviving are two daughters, Jeanette Lenoci of Churchville, Maryland, and Carolyn Wolfe of Athens, Georgia; two sons, Lieutenant Commander (Ret.) Theodore Prehodka of Plainfield and Henry Prehodka of New York City; two sisters, Julia Diana of Seminole, Florida, and Marion Gibney of Mountainside; three brothers, John Kaplan of South Plainfield, Zigmund Kaplan of Bixby, Oklahoma, and Stanley Kaplan of Readington; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Monday, November 16, at McCriskin Home for Funerals in South Plainfield.
A Funeral Liturgy followed at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Russian Orthodox Church in South Plainfield.
Panachida services were held at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nativity of Blessed Virgin Russian Orthodox Church in South Plainfield.
Eleanor C. Thomas, 94
Eleanor C. Thomas, 94, of Westfield, died Friday, November 13, 1998 at Pine Rest Health Care in Paramus.
Born in Annadale, she had lived in Rahway for 41 years before moving to Westfield 10 years ago.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter in Somerville. She was a volunteer with the Rahway Hospital Auxiliary for 12 years and, during World War II, the American Red Cross.
Surviving are two sons, William H. Thomas and Howard Thomas, Jr.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 17, in the Vander Hoven Chapel at Hazelwood Cemetery in Clark.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home in Rahway.
Evelyn Cirasella, 75
Evelyn E. Jones Cirasella, 75, of Barnegat, died Saturday, November 14, 1998 at Atlantic Coast Rehabilitation in Lakewood.
Born in Irvington, she lived in Hawthorne, Bloomfield, Newark, Scotch Plains, Plainfield, Clark and Holiday City at Berkeley before moving to Barnegat in 1986.
Mrs. Cirasella was a salesperson at Sears in Watchung for two years before retiring in 1978.
She had previously worked for Best & Co. of Watchung for 20 years.
She was predeceased by a son, Richard A. Badore, in 1978; another son, Frank J. Badore, Jr. in 1988; a sister, Jacqueline White in 1989; and a brother, Norman Jones.
Surviving are her husband, Michael A. Cirasella; three sons, Wayne E. Badore of Chamblee, Georgia, Dennis R. Badore of Alpha, and Donald K. Badore of Clinton; a daughter, Diane G. Badore of Whiting; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 18, at the Community Reformed Church in Whiting.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Manchester Memorial Funeral Home in Whiting.
Doris Muller, 93
Doris Muller, 93, of Newport, New Hampshire, died Saturday, November 14, 1998 at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield, Vermont.
Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, she had lived in Elizabeth, Cranford and Scotch Plains most of her life before moving to Charlestown, New Hampshire in 1992 and then to Newport in 1997.
Mrs. Muller had been a member of the Cranford Alliance Church, a Past President of the Alliance Retired Fellowship of the Alliance Church, and a volunteer for the Union Hospital and the American Red Cross.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald F. Muller, Jr., in 1996, and two sisters, Ingeborg Hartten and Karia Niedrach.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Ritchie of New Hall, California and Joan Jenkins of Charlestown; a half-brother, Niels Peter Jensen of California; seven grandchildren and v22 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 22, in the Charlestown Memorial Chapel.
Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside.

John Voelker, 73
U.S. Army Veteran; Was Active in Fanwood Rescue Squad
John Paul Voelker, 73, of Forked River, died Sunday, November 15, 1998 in the Lacey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Forked River.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Fanwood for 34 years before moving to Forked River in 1987.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Voelker graduated from Rutgers University in Newark.
He was a chemist with Tenneco in Piscataway for 20 years before retiring.
He was also a part-time licensed practical nurse at Union Hospital.
He was a 30-year member of the Fanwood Rescue Squad and a member of the American Chemical Society.
Surviving are his wife, Lois A. Beatty Voelker; two sons, Robert D. Voelker of Manhattan and Paul J. Voelker of San Pedro, Costa Rica; two daughters, Margaret E. Maloof of Parsippany and Nancy L. Voelker of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; a sister, Ethel Gilliam of Port Deposit, Maryland, and six grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held today, Thursday, November 19, at 9 a.m. in Layton’s Home for Funerals, 250 West Lacey Road, Forked River.

Mary L. Tyson Thorne, 57, of Somerset, died Thursday, November 12, 1998 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in Plainfield, she had lived in Fanwood and Trenton before moving to Somerset 20 years ago.
Mrs. Thorne was a 1961 graduate of Trenton State College.
She was an elementary school teacher in Watchung and Middlesex for 36 years.
Mrs. Thorne was a member of the New Jersey Education Association and the Middlesex Education Association.
Surviving are her husband, LeRoy A. Thorne; a son, Drew Thorne of Stirling; and a brother, Troy R. Tyson of Covit, Massachusetts.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 17, at the Boylan Funeral Home in New Brunswick.
Edna V. Barton, 85
Edna V. Barton, 85, a lifelong resident of Jersey City, died Sunday, November 15, 1998 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark.
Mrs. Barton had worked for several years as a secretary for the Hudson County Juvenile and Domestic Courts in Jersey City prior to retiring in 1975.
She was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Barton, Sr., a son, Robert F. Barton, Jr., and a sister, Doris Clark.
Surviving are a daughter, Edna Ashforth of Westfield; a son, Gerald T. Barton of Arizona; a sister, Grace Henry, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at the McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, today, Thursday, November 19, at 10:30 a.m.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
Steven M. Young, 55
Steven M. Young, 55, of Westfield, died Sunday, November 15, 1998 at Rahway Hospital in Rahway.
Born in Waukegan, Illinois, he had lived in Texas before moving to Westfield six years ago.
Mr. Young was a builder and mason in Plano and Wylie, Texas before retiring six years ago.
He was a United States Navy veteran and was a member of the Martin Wallberg Post No. 3 of the American Legion in Westfield.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Kufalk Young; a daughter, Kristin Young of New York City; a son, Matthew Young of Seoul, Korea; and a sister, Nanette Young.
Arrangements were held by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield.
