V. Carolyn Hingher
(April 1, 1940 - January 19, 2013)
V. Carolyn Hingher, 72, of Kingston, NJ peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Princeton Care Center, Princeton, NJ, with her loving daughter by her side.
Born in Princeton, Mrs. Hingher resided in Plainsboro for many years before moving to Kingston over 40 years ago.
After starting as a secretary in the mid 1970’s, Carolyn retired as the Director of Human Resources for Caliper Inc. in 2005. In her leisure time she was an avid tennis player, reader and lover of the New Jersey Shore. She was known for her beautiful smile and gift of conversation that could make anyone feel right at home.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Owen E. Hingher (1988) and parents Guy and Ruth (Dellinger) Lamkin, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Beth and Joseph Tolin and their son, Matthew, all of Kingston, a son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Kimmra Hingher and their children, Owen and Aubrey, all of Tennessee, a brother Dean Lamkin of West Virginia, a niece and two nephews
Funeral services will begin on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 10:00AM in the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue, Princeton, followed by burial in the family plot at Kingston Cemetery, Kingston, NJ.
Visiting hours are on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the funeral home. Grace J. Sells
(November 10, 1943 - December 6, 2012)
Grace J. Sells, age 69, of Plainsboro, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 6th at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Her body weakened by a nearly decade long struggle with lung cancer, she succumbed to a heart attack on the prior Sunday and lapsed into a coma. Born on November 10, 1943 to Arthur W. and Ruth B Jones, she was the youngest of three girls.
Grace married
her childhood sweetheart, Wilburn Arthur Sells, on June 27, 1964. Although she held jobs as social worker, insurance associate, and substitute teacher during the early parts of her adult life, her true profession was taking care of the people around her.
She had a creative spirit and was a lover of knitting and sewing. She shared her crafted by learning from and teaching others. So devoted to knitting was she that she started several knitting guilds and even traveled to Iceland to purchase yarn.
A graduate of Douglas College in New Jersey, she was a strong advocate of education for her daughters and granddaughter and served on the PTA’s in several communities, most recently she was a member of the Regional Day School PTA in Mercer County.
She will be remembered for her tireless energy and her loving, generous nature. She is survived by her husband of 48 years; two daughters, Kristie Sells and Patricia Brown and her partner Miguel Morales; granddaughter, Mattea Sells; two sisters, Ruth DuBois and her husband Dennis and Fay Hagler and her husband, Herbie; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her Going Home Celebration will be held at the Princeton Church of Christ, 33 River Road, Princeton, NJ on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11am. There will be a viewing at the church beginning at 10am that morning until the time of the service. Burial
will follow at Rocky Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill, NJ.

Herbert M. Gurk
(August 6, 1930 - January 11, 2013)
Herbert M. Gurk, 82, an active member of the Princeton community since 1960, died Friday, January 11, 2012 at the University Medical Center of Princeton @ Plainsboro. He was a leader of research and development teams at RCA Astro Space Division in East Windsor, President of the Jewish Center of Princeton, member and chairman of several of its committees, trustee on its board of directors, and regular participant in community, charitable, and other volunteer organizations.
Dr. Gurk is survived by his wife Maxine Auerbach Gurk and their beloved family, Lisa Herman (Mike) of New Orleans, Louisiana; David Gurk of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Rebecca Gurk (Stuart Mangel) of Columbus, Ohio; and their grandchildren Katie Herman (Mike Noble), Peter Herman, Molly Mangel, Josh Mangel, and Ben Mangel and his brother Guilford Gurk.
Dr. Gurk graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also earned a Ph.D. in the mathematical theory of games. In 1956, he joined RCA in Camden, where he applied his mathematical training to the fields of communication and digital data processing. He moved to RCA’s David Sarnoff Laboratory in 1957 to become an intelligence data processing manager on Project ACSI-MATIC for the US Army Intelligence Department. This project was transferred to RCA Astro in 1958. Upon its completion, Dr. Gurk moved to RCA Astro to become a manager in the space systems development programs. For more than 30 years, he was recognized by government agencies and professional societies as an expert in applications analysis and the development of remote sensing and weather satellite systems. He specialized in advanced earth resources observation systems for NASA, the Department of the Interior, and the Department of Agriculture, and worked on the integration of Weather Bureau and Air Force meteorological satellite programs. After his retirement, he was a frequent consultant on US government programs and taught courses on satellite remote sensing for private and government space system laboratories. His published and presented his work on mathematics, space systems, and remote systems at professional and government meetings for more than 40 years.
Starting in 1993, Dr. Gurk became a volunteer reader of mathematics and physics for Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic in Princeton. He also volunteered as a math and physics tutor at Princeton High School. He was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League and a sought-after partner for local and regional duplicate bridge tournaments. He remained an avid fan of all Philadelphia sports teams throughout his life.
His family and friend remember his capabilities, enthusiasm, and bright smile in anything he did. In the presentation to him at his retirement dinner, the speaker described him as someone who liked “every show, movie, and book he saw or read, and gave original thinking and life to all his activities.” We will miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at The Jewish Center, 435 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ.

Agnes Theresa Kohles
(July 29, 1930 - December 8, 2012)
On Saturday December 8th 2012, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, Agnes Theresa Kohles entered into eternal rest with all seven of her children at her side.
A resident of Princeton for 16 years and most recently West Windsor for the past 3 years, Agnes was born on July 29, 1930 in Elizabeth, New Jersey and graduated from St. Elizabeth’s High School. After attending business school she was employed in the early 1950’s as an executive secretary by Exxon Mobil, in the Empire State Building in NYC. She devoted her life to her family, always living life to the fullest, simply but elegantly, with plenty of laughter, kindness and generosity to go around. The legacy she left behind was her teachings of unconditional love and finding joy in every moment. Agnes rose to the brightness of every new day and her spirit lives on through the lives of her children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of forty years Kenneth John in 1993 and her grandson Ryan Joseph Varga in 2003. She is survived by her children Maryanne and husband Pete Galindo, Catherine and husband Christopher Crane, Clare and husband David Varga, Kenneth II and wife Ildiko Kohles, Theresa Mancuso, Bernadette and husband John Killian, Joseph and wife Marie Kohles, and her grandchildren Lindsay Varga, Lauren Galindo, Kathryn Galindo, Brienna Mancuso, Matthew Mancuso, Aaron Mancuso, Jessica Killian, Trey Kohles, David Braverman and Jake Varga and one great grandchild, Evan Ainsworth

Joseph J. Drabek

Joseph J. Drabek passed away peacefully at the Princeton Medical Center on Christmas Day, December 25, 2012. With his wife Marie, he was a long-time resident of Princeton and raised his children here.
Well-known and beloved in the community for his good humor and generous outgoing spirit, he had many friends and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and Saint Paul's Catholic Church. In recent years he was a regular visitor to the Patterson Senior Center.
Born May 20, 1924 in Cicero, Illinois to John and Anna Drabek, Joe graduated from high school there where he was an avid soccer player and equestrian. Earning business degrees from University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He served in the Canary Islands in World War II, trained as a fighter pilot and cryptographer and was honorably discharged. He married
Marie Brady in Chicago in 1950 and they were married
for 46 years, until her death in 1997. He worked as a marketing executive for Continental Can/American Can Company for 25 years and later for Paul Flum Ideas of St. Louis, MO, retiring in 1985.
Joe was a devoted husband, father and mentor. Sometimes known as "Big D" or "JJ, " he will be missed dearly by his friends and family. He had a passion for tennis and for grand opera. He loved his dogs and he loved horses. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and watching TV and film westerns.
He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Wagner of Fredericksburg, TX., children, Jaime Drabek (Belinda) of McAllen TX, Suzanne Drabek of Princeton NJ, Jonathan Drabek (Stephanie) of St. Augustine FL; his grandchildren Taylor and Grant Drabek of Harlingen, TX, and Matthew and Connor Drabek of St. Augustine FL.
There will be a funeral service on January 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kimble Funeral Home, One Hamilton Avenue in Princeton. Burial
in Princeton cemetery in the family plot will follow. The family requests privacy after the burial.

Albert B. Watrous
(September 20, 1918 - November 27, 2012)

Albert B. Watrous, 94, of Meadow Lakes in East Windsor, NJ, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Born in New York City, Albert lived in Florham Park, NJ for 37 years and Manchester, NJ, for 22 years before moving to Meadow Lakes two years ago.
Mr. Watrous received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Cooper Union in 1943. He then entered the US Army and was honorably discharged, as a 2nd Lieutenant after faithfully serving his county from 1944 to 1946 and receiving a field commission in Italy.
Before his retirement in 1982, he was employed as a Member of the Technical Staff of Bell Telephone Laboratories in New York City and New Jersey for 46 years. He participated in many challenging projects, including the Nike Guided Missile System and the Telstar Project in Maine, which was used to transmit the first trans-Atlantic television broadcast in 1962. He later worked on a buried waveguide project to increase the capacity of long-haul telephone transmission.
Predeceased by a brother, Harold in 1960, Albert is survived by his loving wife, of 65 years, Elizabeth M. Watrous, two sons and daughters-in-law; Donald and Ilene Watrous of Princeton Junction, NJ and Mark and Kathryn Watrous of Mountain Lakes, NJ and four grandchildren; Andrew, Shaina, Timothy and Jonica. He is also survived by his Thai son, Suchart Hiranprueck and his family of Bangkok, Thailand. Suchart joined his family in 1969 thru the high school American Field Service Program for foreign students. Private burial services will be held at B/G Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial cemetery in Arneytown, NJ.

Anthony W. Schannel
(Died December 28, 2012)
Anthony W. Schannel, age 74, passed away peacefully in his home in Lawrenceville with family and friends by his side, on December 28th, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tony was affectionately known by family and friends as “Brother, Babe and Poppie”. Tony was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey. He was the son of the late Carmen and Rosemary (Sculerati) Schannel. He attended grammar school and served as an altar boy for St. Paul’s Catholic Church. After graduating from Princeton High School, Tony began his career at Thorne’s Pharmacy on Nassau Street. He soon after became a member of the Campus Police for Princeton University. He was pleased to be one of the first and oldest officers to join the bike patrol. He retired after 28 successful years of service. Tony did work for a period of time after retirement as a crossing guard for Lawrence Township Schools.
Tony was a true believer in giving back to his community beginning with his early years of service with the National Guard. He was a member of the Italian American Sportsmen’s Club and the Elks of Princeton. Later in life, he became a member of the Fire Police and First Aid Squad of Lawrence Township. Tony was passionate about and enjoyed spending countless hours volunteering as an EMT. He made so many wonderful friends that he truly considered family. He became a life time member of the First Aid Squad. Tony also loved spending time with his family, traveling to Maryland, North Carolina, Vermont, Maine and the Jersey Shore. His favorite place was his garden that he tended with Pat. He could often be found sitting there with Pat, family and friends listening to music. He also dearly loved his cat, Steffie.
Tony celebrated 50 years of marriage with his beautiful wife Pat, who recently passed away in 2010. He has now gone to rest in heaven with the love of his life. He is predeceased by his brother Donald Schannel. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Teri and Doug Rhodes, Missie and Ernie Parrey, and daughter, Kelie Schannel, six grandchildren, Samantha (Rhodes) and her husband Kyle Rutherford, Liana Rhodes, Stephen and Brielle Parrey, Joshua and Olivia McMaster, and great grandchild Kaylee Rutherford. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Jeanne Smith, Kathleen LemMon, and Grace LemMon, brother-in-law, John LemMon, and nephews Scott Trayah and wife Jennifer, Sean Michael LemMon and Erik LemMon and his wife Kim, nieces Lisa Edgerly and her husband Tim, and Christine LemMon; grandnephew George LemMon, grandniece Jewel Trayah, and many other relatives and friends. Tony will be missed by so many people whose lives he touched with his generosity, funny, cranky, kind and sweet disposition. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue, Princeton, NJ 08542. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 9:00 am at the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 am at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 1253 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. A private cremation will follow. Tony’s remains will be committed to the earth on Friday, January 4, 2013 at a private service at Princeton Cemetery.
