Edith Mallett, 92, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, August 19, 1999 in the Heath Village Health Care in Hackettstown.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Scotch Plains 15 years ago.
Mrs. Mallett was a member of the Elmora Country Club in Elizabeth.
Surviving are a son, Russell Mallett, Jr.; a daughter, Barbara Dick; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 28, at 4 p.m. in the August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home in Elizabeth.

Jean Lamont Etherington Martin, 81
Chaired Chemistry Dept. at Area College
Jean Lamont Etherington Martin, 81, of Anderson, Ind. died on Sunday, July 25, 1999 at the Manor Care Health facility in Anderson.
Born in 1918 in Jersey City, she was reared in Bayonne and lived in Cranford, Westfield, Rancho Bernardo in San Diego County, Calif., before moving to Anderson.
Mrs. Martin was a research chemist during World War II and taught chemistry for many years at Union County College in Cranford, where she also chaired the chemistry department.
She had earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Douglas College at Rutgers University and a Master's of Science Degree in Chemistry from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
Mrs. Martin was an elder in the United Presbyterian Church and a Bible teacher at Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido, Calif.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Lewis D. Etherington of Versailles, Ky., in 1987; her second husband, Homer Martin, of Sun City, Ariz., in 1993; her parents, Charles and Janet Campbell Lamont; a sister, Una Buckmaster and a brother, Charles Lamont.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Bedford Etherington of South Bend, Ind. and Douglas Campbell Etherington of Troy, Mont.; a daughter, Janet Etherington Newbold of Anderson; a sister, Susan Riha Thomas of Rancho Bernardo; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 30, at the Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido, Calif. Interment was held at Dearborn Memorial Park in Poway, Calif.
Local arrangements were handled by the Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory South Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 9135 North Meridian Street, Suite B4, Indianapolis, Ind., 462097109.

Helen A. Shanosky, 93
Helen A. Shanosky, 93, of Somerville died Monday, August 23, 1999 at Woods Edge Nursing Home in Bridgewater.
Born in Bayonne, she lived in Branchburg for many years prior to moving to Somerville in 1994.
Mrs. Shanosky was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville.
She was predeceased by her husband, Al Shanosky, in 1985. Surviving are two sons, Arthur E. Shanosky of Westfield and Donald Shanosky of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held yesterday, Wednesday, August 25, at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Hampton.
Arrangements were handled by the Hannon Brother's Funeral Home in Raritan.

Catherine Stephens
Noted Tole Painter; Communicant of Holy Trinity Church
Catherine "Kay" M. Cagnassola Stephens of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, August 24, 1999 at home.
Born and raised in Westfield, the daughter of James A. and Catherine L. Ratti Cagnassola, she had lived there until moving to Scotch Plains 23 years ago.
She was known as a tole painter and gave private lessons in the art from her home.
She also taught tole painting at the Westfield Recreation Center.
Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Tole Painting Association and was a former member of Amity of Westfield.
She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Richard Stephens; a daughter, Kathleen Shackelford; two brothers, James Cagnassola and Frank Cagnassola; two sisters, Anne Probst and Claudia Heller, and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, August 27, at the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
The funeral will be from the Dooley Colonial Home at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Church.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Mina Liebesman, 90
Mina Brenner Liebesman, 90, died yesterday, Wednesday, August 25, 1999 at the Morristown Convalescent Center.
She lived in Bradley Beach and Asbury Park for most of her life.
Mrs. Liebesman had been a teacher for more than 40 years, and was one of the first educators in the state to specialize in learning disabilities.
She received bachelor's and master's degrees from Kean College while in her 60s, and had completed requirements for a doctorate.
She was active in Hadassah and was a Life Member of the organization for more than 30 years.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. William Liebesman of Westfield, Dr. Burton Liebesman of Morristown and Laurence Liebesman of Columbia, Md.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held tomorrow, Friday, August 27, at the Worden-Hoidel Funeral Parlor in Oakhurst.

Mary Browne, 91
Nursing Assistant With Several New York Facilities
Mary D. Curtin Browne, 91, of Scotch Plains died on Monday, August 23, 1999 at the Westfield Network, Genesis ElderCare Center in Westfield.
Born in Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland, she came to the United States in 1928, settling in Brooklyn.
She lived in Brooklyn and Queens before moving to Leisure Village in Lakewood for five years. She relocated to Westfield 17 years ago.
Mrs. Browne had been a nursing assistant, working at the New York Home for Dependent Children in Rockaway Beach, N.Y. for 10 years before retiring in 1973.
Prior to that, she had been with St. Joseph's Hospital in Far Rockaway for 10 years, and at King's County Hospital in Brooklyn for 10 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas O. Browne, in 1978. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Hennessy of Scotch Plains, and three granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, August 26, at the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, August 27, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jesuit Volunteers International, P. O. Box 37, Washington, D. C., 20007.

Michael Kontra, 34
Sales Manager; Member of The Purpose Musical Group
Michael G. Kontra, 34, of Mountainside died on Saturday, August 21, 1999 in St. Joseph's Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Born in Clark, he lived in Mountainside for the past 28 years.
Mr. Kontra was the West Coast sales manager with the United Die Company in Kearny for the last 15 years.
He received an associate's degree from New York University in 1985.
Mr. Kontra was a member of The Purpose, a musical group that played in clubs throughout New York and New Jersey.
Surviving are his parents, Pat and John Kontra of Mountainside; two brothers, Jim Kontra of Mountainside and Rick Kontra of Williston, Vt., and his grandmother, Mary Kontra of Mountainside.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, August 28, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside.
Arrangements are being handled by the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue in Cranford.

BRIANT, Helene (Glass), 69, of Westfield on September 26, 1998.
Beloved wife of the late Robert L. Briant.
Devoted mother of Robert, Ray, Tim, and Peter Briant, and Laura Venturo, and Mary Meyner.
Sister of Robert Kelly and Raye Berthelson.
Also survived by 9 grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass was offered at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield on Wednesday, September 30.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Center for Hope Hospice, 176 Hussa Street, Linden, New Jersey 07036 would be appreciated.
Arrangements were handled by Funeral Service of New Jersey, Inc., Hillside, New Jersey.
