Charles W. Lindemeyer, Jr., 64
Executive At Bell Laboratories; Third Degree Knight
Charles W. Lindemeyer, Jr., 64, of North Plainfield died on Saturday, July 10, 1999 at home.
Born in Staten Island, New York, he had lived there before moving to North Plainfield 35 years ago.
Mr. Lindemeyer was a project manager for Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill for 38 years before retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 552 in Plainfield, where he was a third degree Knight.
He was also active in the Knights of Columbus Squires in Staten Island and active in establishing its youth group.
He was also a member of the National Post of the American Legion, a member of the North Plainfield Recreation Commission and a baseball coach for many years. He was a Scout leader for the Watchung Council Boy Scouts and was active in the Junior Achievement activities at Bell Labs.
He graduated from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City in 1972 with a master’s degree in business administration.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine M. Cannon Lindemeyer; a son, Gregory C. Lindemeyer of North Plainfield; two daughters, Janet A. Lindemeyer of North Plainfield and Karen M. Pear of Westfield and two sisters, Bernice Push and Arlene Lynch, both of Staten Island.
A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, July 14, at St. Joseph’s Church in North Plainfield. Interment was held at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Arrangements were handled by Higgins Home for Funerals in North Plainfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road, Atlanta, Georgia, 30329 or to the Atlantic Home Care and Hospice, 33 Bleeker Street, Millburn, 07041.

Ann P. Conti
Union County Surrogate; Known for Work on Behalf of Elderly
Ann P. Conti of Mountainside, who as Union County Surrogate was a strong advocate for the elderly and vulnerable individuals, died on Saturday, July 10, 1999 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
Raised in New Brunswick, she was an alumna of St. Peter’s High School.
Mrs. Conti earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Arts Degree in Education and Guidance from Seton Hall University in South Orange.
She graduated from Seton Hall Law School and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar Association in 1976.
Mrs. Conti was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and served as a law clerk for Union County judges.
First elected as Surrogate of Union County in 1982, Mrs. Conti won her fourth consecutive term in 1997.
Surrogate terms are for five years each. She had previously served as attorney for the Union County Board of Social Services.
While raising her five children, she had been a teacher of handicapped youth.
As Surrogate, her responsibilities included probating wills, as well as appointing executors, administrators, guardians and trustees of decedents’ estates. In addition, she reviewed and prepared all Union County Court proceedings in probate matters, handled adoption preparations and paperwork, processed guardianship accounts, and prepared court calendars.
Mrs. Conti also launched the Guardianship Monitoring Program in Union County, which serves individuals being cared for by relatives and friends, as well as their guardians.
She helped establish a lawyer referral service for senior citizens in Union County by coordinating the efforts of her office with the Union County Division on Aging, the Union County Senior Citizen Council and the Union County Bar Association.
She additionally worked with the Abused Elderly Committee and the New Jersey Coalition for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults.
A popular speaker among area organizations, she lectured on wills, probate laws, advanced medical directives and other topics.
She also initiated computerization of the Surrogate’s office, a program which was eventually expanded to include computerization and microfilming of all permanent records.
Mrs. Conti was the first female President of the Union County Bar Association, and was a founding member and President for two years of Women Lawyers in Union County.
She was a Past President of the County Officers Association of New Jersey.
Mrs. Conti also served on the Board of Directors of Union County Legal Services, the Union County Chamber of Commerce, Union Hospital, the American Heart Association, and the National College of Probate Judges. She was President-elect of the last of these organizations.
Mrs. Conti founded a Union County Chapter of Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Evolve), which has been associated with the Center for Hope Hospice in Union County. Mrs. Conti was also a guest lecturer at Seton Hall Law School.
Surviving are her husband, Ralph Conti; her son, Ralph Conti, and four daughters, Maureen Conti, Colleen Conti, Eileen Conti and Kathleen Conti.
The funeral was held yesterday, Wednesday, July 14, at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield, followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside.
Burial took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hope Hospice, 176 Hussa Street in Linden, 07036, or to the American Cancer Society.

Rudolph Fowler, Sr., 71
Church Deacon; Chemical Blender At American Cyanamid
Rudolph Fowler, Sr., 71, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, July 7, 1999 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Camden, South Carolina, he lived in Plainfield for 55 years.
Mr. Fowler was a chemical blender for American Cyanamid in Bound Brook for 15 years, before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Queen City Baptist Church in Plainfield for 40 years, where he was a deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Fowler; seven sons, Rudolph Fowler, Jr., of Plainfield, Sherman Fowler of Plainfield, Darrell Stewart of East Orange, Jeffery Fowler of Huntsville, Texas, Isaiah Fowler of Plainfield and David Scott Fowler of Plainfield; five daughters, Edna Mae Jones, Mahala Stewart, Deborah Fowler, Charlene Jones and Elaine Fowler, all of Plainfield; three sisters, Tyre Provard of Columbia, South Carolina, Elizabeth Jasper of Plainfield and Jay NyStewart of Plainfield; five brothers, The Reverend Willie Fowler of Scotch Plains, Andrew Fowler of Plainfield, The Reverend David Fowler, Sr. of Plainfield, Benjamin Fowler of Plainfield and Cal Fowler of Camden, South Carolina; 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 13, at the Queen City Baptist Church in Plainfield.
Arrangements were handled by Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.

Helen K. Cilo, 80
Was Supervisor At Hoffman-La Roche in Nutley
Helen K. Kotubey Cilo, 80, of Clifton died on Thursday, July 8, 1999 at home.
Born in Carteret, she lived in Clifton for the last 53 years.
Mrs. Cilo was employed as a supervisor at Hoffman-La Roche Pharmaceutical Company in Nutley for 22 years, before retiring in 1981.
She was a member of the Clifton Bible Study Group in Clifton and the Hoffman-La Roche Retirement Club in Nutley.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Cilo and a daughter, Judith C. Mulligan.
Surviving are two sons, David G. Cilo of Westfield and John M. Cilo of Clifton; a sister, Olga Svitlik and three grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Monday, July 12, at the Shook Funeral Home in Clifton.
Interment was held at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
Arrangements were handled by the Mulligan Funeral Home in Harrison.

Mario Di Fabio, 68
Was Retired Mason With Masons and Bricklayers Local No. 3
Mario Di Fabio, 68, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, July 8, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Italy, he had lived in Roselle Park, Garwood and Westfield before moving to Scotch Plains in 1972.
Mr. Di Fabio was a mason with the Masons and Bricklayers Local No. 3, formerly Local No. 34 of Westfield, for 31 years before retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Cranford and the Deutscher Club of Clark.
He was a corporal in the Italian Army in a special forces unit that patrolled the Italian and Swiss Alps.
Surviving are his wife, Pia Di Fabio; a daughter, Rosanna Cohen; two sons, Nino Di Fabio and Frank Di Fabio; a brother, Anselmo Di Fabio; a sister, Esta Di Fabio and five grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, July 12, in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Arrangements were handled by the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.

Susan L. Adase, 37
Susan L. Adase, 37, of Point Pleasant died on Thursday, July 8, 1999 in Brick Hospital.
Born in Irvington, she had lived in Kenilworth, Point Pleasant and Scotch Plains before returning to Point Pleasant.
Mrs. Adase was an accountant for Uni Press in Edison for many years.
She was a graduate of Seton Hall University.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph F. Adase; her father, Joseph Skwisz; a grandmother, Ella Weinschenk and a brother, Joseph Skwisz, Jr.
A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, July 12, in the Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park.
Arrangements were handled by the Mastapeter Suburban in Roselle Park.

Constance Kasalis, 85
Constance V. Kasalis, 85, of Scotch Plains died on Friday, July 9, 1999 in the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Township.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Rahway before moving to Scotch Plains in 1997.
She had been a seamstress for the Evan Picone Company in Rahway before retiring in 1965.
Surviving are a son, Robert Kasalis, and two sisters, Pauline Sawicki and Anna Kundyla.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 13, in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum Chapel of St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia.
Arrangements were handled by the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington.

James A. Claypoole
Graveside Services To be Held Tomorrow For James Claypoole
A graveside service for James A. Claypoole, a former longtime resident of Scotch Plains, will be held tomorrow, Friday, July 16, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Mr. Claypoole died on Friday, June 18, 1999 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
He and his wife, the late Virginia Kiep Claypoole, had been Scotch Plains residents for many years.
