Marguerite Ritchie, 88
Volunteer; Had Worked at Town Bookstore
Marguerite Overend Ritchie, 88, of Sherwood Forest, Maryland, formerly of Westfield, died on Saturday, March 20, 1999 at home.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 14, 1910, she had lived in Westfield from 1941 to 1967, when she moved to Sherwood Forest.
Mrs. Ritchie had worked for the Town Bookstore of Westfield. She had also been employed by Scott's Bookstore and the Green Cat Bookstore in Annapolis, Maryland.
She was active in Navy Women’s Golf and was a member of the Sherwood Forest Club. In addition, she was a volunteer with the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.
Mrs. Ritchie was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Annapolis and recently attended the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, also in Annapolis.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Wellington Overend, and a sister, Mary Louise Wellener.
Surviving are two sons, Marion Delmar Ritchie of Sherwood Forest and Clarence Overend Ritchie of Palm, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Marguerite R. Tessitore of Warren, and a brother, Joseph Reed Overend of Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3, at 11 a.m. in the Clubhouse at Sherwood Forest.
Arrangements are being handled by the Hardesty Funeral Home in Annapolis, Maryland.

Thomas Martinez, 86
Thomas Martinez, 86, of Westfield died on Wednesday, March 17, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Westfield 15 years ago.
Mr. Martinez had been employed as a longshoreman by the International Longshoremen’s Association, Local No. 1814 in Brooklyn, for 30 years before retiring as a shop steward 24 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Martinez; two daughters, Jeanne Marino and Linda Cutro; a brother, Frank Martinez; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, March 20, in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.
Elizabeth Boughtwood, 62
Was Nurse; Data Analyst Also Worked in Research
Elizabeth Patricia Boughtwood, 62, of Westfield died on Thursday, March 18, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Kent, England, she had lived in her native country until moving to Westfield in 1977.
While in England, she had been a State Registered Nurse, as well as a craft instructor at the Old People’s Day Care Center.
She was also a church volunteer.
After moving to the United States, she had worked for the Statistical Research Institute in Westfield, the Hospital Research Association in Fanwood, and for Rahway Hospital.
Most recently, she was a data analyst for the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy.
Surviving are her husband, John Alec Boughtwood; a daughter, Kathryn Mary Proffitt of North Plainfield; two sons, Timothy John Boughtwood of Long Branch and David Boughtwood of Albany, New York; a sister, Valerie Smith of Hempshire, England, and two grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 23, at the Community Presbyterian Church in Mountainside.
Interment was private.
Arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

Herman A. Werber, 97
Bendix Retiree; Member of The Presbyterian Church
Herman Albert Werber, 97, of Westfield died on Friday, March 19, 1999 at Ashbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotch Plains.
Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Westfield since 1942.
Mr. Werber had been a technical editor for Bendix Corporation for 14 years before retiring in 1967.
He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and was a life member of the Seventh Regiment of New York Company F.
Mr. Werber was a member of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Katheryne Estelle Werber, in 1994.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy L. Werber of Westfield and Suzanne Werber Dworsky of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Private graveside services were held on Tuesday, March 23, at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
A memorial service was held that afternoon in the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Charles Wagstaff, 69
Charles M. Wagstaff, 69, of Medford died on Monday, March 22, 1999 at home.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was raised in Brooklyn and had lived in South Plainfield before moving to Medford 10 years ago.
Mr. Wagstaff had worked at Macy’s in Plainfield from 1953 to 1983.
He had worked for the United States government in government supply administration in Florence from 1984 to 1994.
Mr. Wagstaff was a member of the Watchung Hills Elks Club No. 2252.
He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Roenelt, in 1991.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Amelia Desiato Wagstaff; a daughter, Karla Wagstaff of Scotch Plains; a brother, Joseph Wagstaff of Long Island, New York; two sisters, Emma Bottaro of Long Island and Ida Bugno of Hornell, New York, and a granddaughter.
A Funeral Service will be held today, Thursday, March 25, at 10 a.m. at Higgins Home for Funerals in Plainfield.

Felix Mongrello, 78
Felix Mongrello, 78, of Mountainside, died on Monday, March 22, 1999 in Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Mountainside and Florida before returning to Mountainside 21 years ago.
Mr. Mongrello had worked in the maintenance department of the Union County Board of Education for six years.
He had previously worked as a painter for the Rheingold Corporation in Orange for 30 years.
Surviving are a sister, Caroline Pugliese and a brother, Victor Mongrello.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 24, in the Zarro Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Peter Constandi, 82
Was Army Veteran; Construction Foreman at Gas Company
Peter P. Constandi, 82, of Garwood died on Thursday, September 16, 1999 at Union Hospital in Union.
Born in Plainfield, he lived in Garwood for the last 50 years.
Mr. Constandi had been a construction foreman with the Elizabethtown Gas Company for 36 years before retiring in 1982.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, during which time he served with the 44th Signal Corps and the 248th Signal Corps in Africa and Europe.
Mr. Constandi was a Third Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Father Nelligan Council No. 5730, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 506 in Plainfield.
He was an active member of the Retirees’ Club of Elizabethtown Gas Company and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Constandi; a daughter, Anne Nicholson of Piscataway; two sons, Patrick Constandi and James Constandi, both of Garwood; two brothers, Frank Constandi of Plainfield and Dominick Constandi of Scotch Plains; five sisters, Mary Sorbo of North Plainfield, Helen LaPiere of Fanwood, Margaret Ritchie of Middlesex, Sister Virginia Constandi of Clark and Anne Graglia of Reeders, Pa., and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, September 20, at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Garwood, following the funeral from the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue in Cranford.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Margaret E. Burns, 70
Margaret E. Burns, 70, of Westfield died on Sunday, September 19, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Bayonne before moving to Westfield in 1962.
Mrs. Burns was a Manager of Accounts Payable for The Falcon Safety Products Company in Branchburg for 15 years, where she was still active.
She was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, William R. Burns, in 1996.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy E. Oakley of Andover, Kathleen T. Restuccia of Somerset and Mary P. Andreola of Arlington, Tex.; two sons, William R. Burns, Jr. of Linwood and Kevin B. Burns of Scotch Plains, and six grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy was held yesterday, Wednesday, September 22, at the Holy Trinity Church.
Interment was private.
