Therese Potts Mullin, 92, of Fanwood died on Tuesday, January 5, 1999 at home.
Born in Philadelphia, she moved to Fanwood in 1951.
Mrs. Mullin had been an executive secretary for Wick Narrow Fabric Company in Philadelphia for 15 years before retiring in 1945.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew Rosary Altar Society in Scotch Plains.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Mullin, in 1996.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 8, at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by a Mass at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Nicholas J. Sticco, 82
Was Machinist With Hyatt Roller Bearing Company
Nicholas Joseph Sticco, 82, of Fanwood died on Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare Network in Westfield.
Born in Corona, New York, he had lived in Plainfield before moving to Fanwood 25 years ago.
Mr. Sticco had been a machinist at Hyatt Roller Bearing Company in Clark, a division of General Motors, before retiring in 1979.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Millina Mangione Sticco; a son, Setti Sticco of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Janet Stroup of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a sister, Terry Breach of Rumson, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 9, at the Scarpa Funeral Home in North Plainfield.

Marcy Sperling, 40
Hospital Volunteer; Account Representative for R. H. Macy’s
Marcy Sperling, 40, of Scotch Plains died on Wednesday, January 6, 1999 in the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.
Born in Newark, she lived in Scotch Plains for 10 years.
She graduated Kean College in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and received her master’s equivalent in special education in 1982.
Mrs. Sperling was employed as an account representative with R. H. Macy’s in New York City for many years.
She was a volunteer at Overlook Hospital in Summit, helping parents of terminally ill children.
She was a survivor of Wilms Tumor, a form of childhood cancer.
Surviving are her husband, Edward B. Sperling; her parents, Sheila and Sheldon Kahn; two sisters, Allison Engel and Liza Kahn; and a grandmother, Rose Kahn.
Memorial services were held on Friday, January 8, at Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
E. H. Carter, Sr., 69
Edward H. Carter, Sr., 69, of Westfield died Tuesday, January 5, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Manaca, Pennsylvania, he had lived in Plainfield before moving to Westfield 44 years ago.
Mr. Carter was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He had been a warehouseman at Krief Brothers Trucking Company in Rahway for 16 years, retiring in 1995.
Previously he had been a machine operator at Art Color Company in Dunellen for 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Carter; three sons, Edward Carter, Jr., Robert Carter and Eric Carter; three daughters, Kerri Carter, Deborah Norcisa and Sandra Dennis; two sisters, Rose Harris and Mary Scott; 21 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Peter Komendat, 84
Grandfather; Supervisor of Jersey City Building Firm
Peter Komendat, 84, of Scotch Plains died on Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at home.
Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Bayonne before moving to Scotch Plains 50 years ago.
Mr. Komendat was a retired supervisor with Building Services, Inc. of Jersey City for many years before retiring.
He was a member of St. Sophia Ukranian Orthodox Church in Bayonne.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Korello Komendat.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Laity of Medford and Melanie Dombrowski of South Plainfield; a sister, Mary Tynda of Bayonne, and three grandchildren.
A Divine Liturgy was held on Monday, January 11, at St. Sophia Ukranian Orthodox Church in Bayonne, following a funeral from the Bayonne Memorial Home in Bayonne.
Interment was held at St. Andrew’s Cemetery in South Bound Brook.

Dolly Monroe Cheek, 84
Dolly Monroe Cheek, 84, of Westfield died on Monday, January 4, 1999 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Canada and raised in Elizabeth, she had lived in Fanwood and Scotch Plains for 20 years before moving to Westfield 23 years ago.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Cheek was a member of the Westfield Art Association and a former member of the Metuchen Country Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Chester V. Cheek. Surviving are a daughter, Christina Morton; two sons, Ronald C. Cheek and David M. Cheek, and six grandchildren.
A memorial dinner was held on Saturday, January 9, at L’Affaire Restaurant in Mountainside.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue, West, in Cranford.
Frank Eakin, Jr., 79
Press Officer; Teacher, Asst. Principal in Vietnam
Frank Eakin, Jr., 79, of Somerville died on Sunday, January 10, 1999 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he had lived in New Jersey and spent time overseas before settling in Somerville in 1975.
Mr. Eakin had been a reporter for several years with The Newark Evening News before joining the United States Information Agency as a publications officer in 1957.
During the course of his career with the agency, he worked in Germany, India, Pakistan and Vietnam for 17 years before retiring in 1974.
Mr. Eakin subsequently served as an assistant principal and teacher at a private American high school in Saigon, Vietnam, from 1974 to 1975.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Rutger’s University in New Brunswick.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Brandriff Eakin, in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, Kim Thanh Eakin; a son, David Eakin of North Plainfield; a daughter, Cam Tu Susan Eakin Fleming of Scotch Plains; a brother, Lloyd Eakin of Tucson, Arizona; a sister, Eleanor Bires of North Carolina, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, January 14, at 1 p.m. at the Higgins Home for Funerals in North Plainfield.
Joseph Lomenzo, 88
Army Veteran; Was Supervisor for Schwin Williams
Joseph S. Lomenzo, 88, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, January 7, 1999 at home.
Born in Newark, he lived in Scotch Plains since 1952.
Mr. Lomenzo had been a production supervisor for Schwin Williams in Newark for 28 years before retiring in 1975.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He graduated from Catholic University in Washington, D. C. with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Cherenko Lomenzo; a son, Joseph R. Lomenzo; a daughter, Carol Jackson; a sister, Connie Klos; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 11, at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by a Mass at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Irmgard E. Walther, 83
Irmgard E. Walther, 83, of Somerset died on Friday, January 8, 1999 in the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Somerset 21 years ago.
Mrs. Walther had been a clerk at the Garden of Paper in Somerset for many years before retiring.
She was a member of the Elks Lodge in South Orange.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald H. Walther and Karl Walther; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 12, in the Naughright-Scarponi Funeral Home in High Bridge.
