David Ober, 73, of Fort Meyers, Florida died on Monday, May 31, 1999 in Westfield.
Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he had lived there most of his young life before moving to Wisconsin for a brief period of time and then to Westfield in 1952 before moving to Fort Meyers in 1994.
He had graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Mr. Ober owned his own business, Amcro Inc, in Union, a manufacturing representative firm.
He was a member of the American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Repair Engineers (ASHRE).
He was also a member of the Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Meyers.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Ober of Fort Meyers; two sons, James H. Ober of Westfield and David J. Ober of Wayne; two brothers, Eugene Ober of Fort Meyers and John Ober of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Patricia Boring of Fort Meyers and Arlene Pfost of Sterling Park, Virginia, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements are being handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Herbert H. Fost, 89
Herbert Handler Fost, 89, of Westfield died on Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at the home of his daughter, Ronnie Kanarek, in Sudbury, Massachusetts.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Elizabeth before moving to Westfield five years ago.
Mr. Fost had been a tax, pension and trust attorney for the law firm of Reibel, Isaac, Tannenbaum and Epstein, and for Samuel Lachs, both of Elizabeth, for many years before retiring.
Prior to that, he had worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Newark as chief of the fraud section for 25 years before retiring in 1971.
Also surviving are another daughter, Nancy Segal, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 3, at noon in the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.
Willard Sauerbrun, 90
Willard E. Sauerbrun, 90, of Westfield died on Sunday, May 23, 1999 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Westfield since 1945.
Mr. Sauerbrun had been a petroleum engineer with UniRoyal Inc. in New York City before retiring.
Earlier, he had been employed with Sinclair Oil Company.
He was a member of the Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield.
As a youth, he belonged to Troop No. 8, one of the first Boy Scout troops in America.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Sauerbrun, and a daughter, Cheryl Sauerbrun.
Services were private.
Arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Phyllis M. Lavenhar, 71
Former Teacher; Was Co-Owner of Confectionary Store
Phyllis Miriam Lavenhar, 71, of Plainfield died on Monday, May 31, 1999 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Newark, she lived in Plainfield since the age of six.
In 1970, Mrs. Lavenhar began a 27-year teaching career in Newark, where she taught kindergarten and first-grade students.
She also ran the Pilsens Confectionary Store in Plainfield with her husband, Harold Lavenhar, for nine years.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Newark State Teachers’ College, presently Kean University in Union, in 1968.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Paul Lavenhar of Scotch Plains and Steven Lavenhar of Vienna, Virginia; a sister, Sandy Silverman of Red Bank, and three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, June 3, at 12:30 p.m. at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Plainfield.
Burial will take place in Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 U.S. Route 1, North Brunswick, 08902.
Giovannina Del Monaco, 89
Giovannina Sardella Del Monaco, 89, died on Sunday, May 30, 1999 at Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains.
Born and raised in Pietracupa, Italy, she came to the United States in 1947, settling in Westfield.
Mrs. Del Monaco was a member of the Amicidella Roccia of Westfield and of the Westfield Community Center.
She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Emilio Del Monaco, in 1981.
Surviving are a son, Diamante Del Monaco; a daughter, Angelina DiIorio; six grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy was held on Wednesday, June 2, at Holy Trinity Church in Westfield.
Entombment was held at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield.
Donald R. Tingley, 74
Navy Veteran; Had Been Area Automobile Mechanic
Donald R. Tingley, 74, of South Plainfield died on Monday, May 31, 1999 in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Born in Bound Brook, he had resided in Westfield before settling in South Plainfield in 1955.
Mr. Tingley had been an automobile mechanic for Dorfingler Esso in Plainfield and Warren for 30 years prior to retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in North Plainfield and a life member of the National Rifle Association and the South Plainfield Senior Citizens.
He was a life member of the Storr-Richie Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 506 of North Plainfield, and was also a member of the Armed Guard.
Mr. Tingley, a United States Navy veteran, was a gunner in the Gunner Crew during World War II.
He served in the Caribbean waters off the coast of the United States.
He was predeceased by a sister, Anita Merchon.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jane Howarth Tingley; a daughter, Susan Hageman of South Plainfield; two sons, Donald B. Tingley of North Plainfield and J. William (Bill) Tingley of Westfield, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Reformed Church.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, June 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the McCriskin Home For Funerals in South Plainfield.

Betty Schneider, 97
Betty Schneider, 97, a former Westfield resident of 45 years, died on Wednesday, September 8, 1999 in Sarasota, Fla.
Born in Winchester, Indiana, she had lived in Westfield from 1931 to 1976 before moving to Florida.
While living in Westfield, Mrs. Schneider and her late husband, Walter, were active in church and school activities and local social groups. Mr. Schneider, who died in 1976, had been an Elder of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Surviving are a son, Walter Schneider of Venice, Calif.; a daughter, Julia Floreen of Schenectady, N. Y.; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
Interment was to take place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Wiegand Brothers Funeral Homes in Sarasota.
George B. Myrtetus, 69
Was President Of Total Energy Leasing Corporation
George B. Myrtetus, 69, of Scotch Plains and North Beach (Long Beach Island) died on Wednesday, September 8, 1999 at home.
Born in Collingswood, he moved to Scotch Plains 30 years ago.
Mr. Myrtetus was the President of Total Energy Leasing Corporation in New York City for 32 years.
He was a 1952 graduate of Villanova University in Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
He was a member of the Plainfield Country Club.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Boyle Myrtetus.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Slevin Myrtetus; a son, Michael Myrtetus of Summit; four daughters, Mary Myrtetus of Summit, Susan Lorentzen and Nancy Webb, both of Westfield, and Tracy Myrtetus of Scotch Plains; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Castell of Brooklyn, N. Y.; a stepson, David Croke of Burlington, Vt., and seven grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, September 11, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, following the funeral from the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.
Interment was at the Hillside Cemetery in Plainfield.
